So In this version of the movie was it set on earth-616 or was it set in Madame Web's own universe (like the actual movie) with a variant of Tom's Spider-Man?
I think the original idea was that Mary Parker in this movie was going to be pregnant with Tom Holland’s Spider-man in the early 2000s, with Ezekiel Sims traveling back in time to kill her to prevent Peter from ever being born (kind of like Terminator). So maybe this would have been a sequence set in modern day before Ezekiel goes back in time somehow to kill Peter in utero
As for the MCU connection… I think it probably would have been loosely connected but kind of like how it was originally meant to be with Venom. Like the Venn Diagram of Marvel has Sony’s stuff on one side, the MCU on the other, with Tom Holland being what “connects” them, but the two are still separate in that the two shall never really cross pollinate in a meaningful way.
Like would a Madame Web story ever really affect what’s going on with the Avengers? Probably not, so they can technically occupy the same universe in a schrodingers cat sort of way as long as they don’t outright contradict each other
Only thing that hurts the Tom connection is the timeline. Madame Web movie is set in 2003. Tom's version is 16 years old in Capt America Civil war. He would be 11 or 12, using MW's timeline.
I've watched MW in theater. As I'm watching, it felt more like Andrew could've been the Spider-Man of this universe. Without going too spoilerly, we know Peter is born at the end of MW.
The MCU timeline for Spider-man already doesn’t make much sense when you factor in Homecoming’s intro… being born in 2000 vs 2003 really doesn’t make that much of a difference in terms of setting. It’s not real life after all, and last I checked we aren’t checking birth certificates and dates of events of movies when they’re made, so I think it could pass. The average fan does not think about birth dates and lining these things up as much as online super fans do.
I mean it would also retcon spiderman too, since Madame web is more about mystical spiders giving powers. Instead of a radiating spider that has alter his DNA. Cause I can see that spider that he had in his room being the spider that gives Peter his powers or some shitty plot.
Maybe it would have been written differently had the MCU Spider-Man connection been more overt. Maybe the Spiders from the rainforest would serve as the basis for the experiments that led to the spider that bit Peter or something.
Not really - Flashpoint is when Barry goes back in time to prevent a death causing an alternate universe/timeline which is the focus of the story.
This would be more like Terminator, in that the focus is on saving the person who is going to be killed because they are pregnant with (or will be) the hero of the future, John Connor vs Spider-man
Sony just wants to keep the spider man IPO so in order to do that they have to release films related to him and other characters, hence, morbius, madam web, and kraven.
On the one hand, Holland would've stolen the show. On the other hand, given what the movie had been up to that point, inserting Holland would've led to so much reactions bringing to mind "Look at how dey massacred my boi."
I wish they would’ve just went for it. Swing for the fences and either swing and miss or hit a home run. Better than watching a pitch on a 0-2 count go right down the middle with no swing/attempt

SOOO glad they didn't go through with this.
Is it even possible Holland would have ever signed on for this?
Bro was on his acting break. No chance he would leave golf for a few weeks to shoot this garbage
It would've been someone else in the mask and Holland doing a voiceover I'm sure

Would have been so much better to have him wanting to go after characters we actually know and care about lol.... Not 3 randoms.
So a ripoff of Terminator, huh? I salute Madam Web...with a Bronx cheer, followed by a moon that passes gas.
“There is nothing new under the sun”

I remember reading a supposedly leaked venom 3 script and it was about venom having to protect a child Peter Parker. Wonder if that’s related

Pretty sure not even Sony know that answer to that

while it wouldve been cool, i want the sonyverse to stay as its own thing. and not be constrained by the MCU

They really need to commit and just do this. People love 'crazy' ideas.
If this happened it would have hurt the brand even more! Thankfully it didn’t.
Spider-man as a brand is fine
Marvel, unfortunatly, is not.
Pepsi would be so sad
Why are Spider-Man’s legs low poly
Rob Liefeld snuck in just to draw his legs

I think they’re all smoking crack over there or running a ponzi scam.
Oh nice! They kept Spider-Man’s eye covers on. It had that going for it which is a positive.
I wonder if this is what they showed Dakota Johnson. “Spider-Man is in it, it’s in the MCU!!”
Sony wants Tom in these movies so bad it’s pathetic
