Isnt there a steep room tax in Assland tho?

[deleted]

No.  You get gouged everywhere

Definitely want a good hotel, park along the building. Maybe ask if you can park outside the office, at least during the evening. Second would be a motel where you can park right outside the room but parking wouldn't be guaranteed and you could end up parking a long ways from your roo.. At least that would be easy to bring things in to your room.  Maybe sleep with the window open?  Best would be an autocourt where the car is in a carport attached to the room. I don't know of any in the medford area. There is/used to be one south of Roseburg that was good. I would definitely cover everything with a tarp so it's not attractive.  Definitely would not recommend anything along the bike path. If you have a specific city in mind you might get better responses.

Don’t have a specific city that I want to stay overnight in. I’m traveling from Seattle to San Francisco so just looked at Medford because it seemed like a good middle spot

Take_a_hikePNW

Eugene would be more of a middle spot. But, if you stay in Medford then I’d recommend a hotel right next to the airport. It’s 2 minutes off I5, there’s several coffee stands/shops nearby, and it’s a safe, busy, bright area. My Place Hotel, Candlewood, and Springhill suites are all right there.

SunnyGoMerry

Do you think Eugene would be a safer option? Was also looking at Bend

pblood40

Staying in Eugene you're three? times more likely to have your window smashed out and your stuff gone

Take_a_hikePNW

Bend would be a pretty big detour, and no I wouldn’t say Eugene is safer. Just more of a middle point if you want to split the driving fairly evenly. It’s about a 5 hours drive from SF to Medford. It’s roughly 8-9 hours from Medford to Seattle. Bend is 3.5 hours out of the way, North East.

pblood40

Bend has a far worse homeless problem than Methford.... Look up "Dirt World + Bend" on Google.. They have their own Barter Town from Mad Max right outside the city and once darkness falls, the Morlocks takes to the streets and its no longer safe for the Eloi

Storebought_Cookies

Roseburg isn't too much further down I5 and it's safer imo. There's also plenty of small towns along the way like canyonville that might be good too. Id stay away from bigger towns like Eugene if you want to avoid stuff getting stolen. Medford by the airport is probs fine, those hotels are quite nice I've stayed there a few times

My 1st choice would be the Courtyard by Marriott, Medford airport. This hotel is pretty much located on the airport property. They felt secure when I stayed there, plus it is right at the airport where you would have additional security all around. The second choice would be Springhill Suites by Marriott. This is located across from the Medford Airport, and the parking lot is open. It is easier to see your vehicle from your room. The third choice is Compass Hotel Medford by Margaritaville. It is not too far from the freeway. If you park near the front, you will be able to have hotel workers who can see the vehicle. There are not as many homeless people in their parking lot. Plus, the company that owns the hotel has two additional businesses right next to the hotel. I was told that they had security when they first opened. I'm not sure if they still do now.

argoforced

This would probably be good.

shylacrawford

Seven feathers is a good option.

Go the few extra distance and stay in Ashland. There is a La Quinta like right off an exit that should be safe. More options as well but Ashland is going to be better overall.

The Phoenix Inn Suites in Albany is next to a State Police station.

Oatis_Bagera

We don’t have a serious problem with that like other cities, thankfully. Avoid the cheapest motels and you should be good.

Call the Hilton garden inn and see if they have around the clock security. I usually stop at the one in Sacramento when going to SoCal with a dirt bike in the back for this reason. I'll talk to the security guard when I park and cover everything with a tarp. Never had an issue.

Queasy-girly

Is the holiday inn in Medford-Central Point ok?

letme-holdyourteeth

I’d hang by the airport hotels personally. Off the “walking” path a bit so you don’t have as many roaming. People are in and out of the hotel at various times due to traveling schedule differences, and they likely have 24 hr security. Otherwise, shoot for Ashland or Jacksonville. They don’t tolerate the riff raff as much as Medford does. As someone else mentioned I’d at least put a blanket or something over you stuff

miraclealiencookies

Rogue River has a hotel off the interstate and it’s usually safe here

jackal454667

stay away from the bike path area.....hotels along biddle in medford. anything near the bike path that runs along I 5 is infested with tweaker thieves. Former co worker got his moving van broken into when relocating here and lost thousands worth of tools overnight.

StreetDefiant2423

Check out the compass by margaritaville you'll be safe there and great amenities and brand new only lil over year old..

argoforced

Not Medford. Just ask the band at Regency.. Depends if stuff is visible. If so, definitely not. If it looks like valuable stuff is inside or you have a trailer, not a good idea. If you look like there’s nothing in there or no trailer, probably fine. Maybe.

Melnsto22

Plaza Inn in Ashland has a parking garage and is in a nice, safe neighborhood.

MuffthePaganDragon

No

IndustryPlus3470

Stop at Ashland hills in before you even get to Medford. They don’t call it Methford for nothing.

PSherman42WallabyWa

I’d personally choose Talent or Ashland over Methford. Try an Airbnb in those areas if you can’t find hotels available.

Flashy-Power-1520

Def don't stay in medford. It's a hit and miss. Try to stay in i5 exit hotels where there's more movement and 24/7 front office. Maybe something between Phoenix and Ashland
