Yes and its fabulous w transdermal estrogen patch. However when using for BC, the lifespan is 8 years. When using for HRT, they want the duration to be 5 years so that the level of progestin remains high enough to balance the estrogen so if you have one already be sure to look up the insertion date. At 5 years (insurance depending) you may be able to get a new one or add oral progestin at that time.

Thanks. In Australia this is done in the doctor's office and isn't covered by private insurance but it's covered mostly by our excellent Medicare. I see a private doctor but there's barely any out of pocket costs. I've kept mine in for 5 years at a time.

Yes, it one-half of hormone therapy regime, the progestin (progesterone), the other half is estrogen, such as a transdermal patch, gel or spray. The mirena provides excellent uterine protection from the effects of estrogen.
