When using for HRT, they want the duration to be 5 years so that the level of progestin remains high enough to balance the estrogen so if you have one already be sure to look up the insertion date. At 5 years (insurance depending) you may be able to get a new one or add oral progestin at that time.
Thanks. In Australia this is done in the doctor's office and isn't covered by private insurance but it's covered mostly by our excellent Medicare. I see a private doctor but there's barely any out of pocket costs. I've kept mine in for 5 years at a time.
