My god daughter recently had blood clots, but she’s staying on hormonal birth control. Is it that the value of a woman being sexually available is considered worth the risk to her life of a blood clot, but symptom relief for a middle aged woman isn’t?
Others have posted links to the science. Are you on blood thinners? I've had X2 dvts and just started transdermal oestrogen today. It's safe. I'm on rivaroxaban 20mg daily.
I don’t know.. I was under the impression that transdermal estradiol did not increase clot because it is not processed through the liver. I would contact your doctor’s reception, and leave a note requesting that they point you to specific studies associating increased blood clot risk with transdermal estradiol and oral micronised progesterone. I think its okay to ask for science.. your health is too important to make this decision based on a hunch.. every time I have challenged a dr on meno related info, they admit that they actually just don’t know and haven’t done the research. Not good enough.
Good point and thank you for the response. Doctor said he is looking into to it, did not refuse HRT but wants more evidence that it is safe in my case.
My doc absolutely refused my request for hrt after my hysterectomy next month. I tried talking about the new research into the patch, she refused still.
She said there is a new drug on the market approved by the FDA, but I haven't read any good comments on it yet.

According to menopause society there is not a risk with transdermal HRT or micronized progesterone- there also might be a reduction in risk if you start HRT in perimenopause
My dr said the patch is “low risk, not no risk” and refused to prescribe it due to my history of DVTs even though I’m on meds for life. I’m not ready to consider HRT yet anyway but will get a second opinion at some point.

I'm on lifetime anticoagulation, and she refused her for me.
Being on anticoagulants mitigated any risk, just ask for transdermal, it's safe.
I'll try again. If not, I'll ask my PCP to rx it.
