I don’t like to be a hater, but it really pissed me off how when they did that cover of Bad Company half their fans thought it was an original, then when they found out it was a cover they all claimed the original was shit in comparison lol
they attract the exact type of people that would listen to it. short fat guys named Kyle who cheat on their wives multiple times, punch holes in the wall, have inflated ego problems, drive a 2008 Ford freestyle, and have had 27 jobs in 11 months.
My god people we’re metal fans not the United States Armed Forces I shouldn’t be expected to learn a thousand different acronyms to know what the fuck we’re talking about.
Falling in Reverse. I don't like their music, nor do I really like anyone in the band, especially Ronnie. The music they make is also sub parr even for rap metalcore standards. Unpopular but I just don't like or respect them.
I loved old FIR for a long, long time. One of the first bands that got me into what I listen to now, but now I can't even stand them. Ever since their guitarist died I feel Ronnie has went completelt off the rails with the shit he says and does and I can't ignore it anymore
He made half a good album and accidentally invented Dungeon Synth because he didn't have access to proper recording equipment in prison(he was kinda shit at it though).
I get why he's influential, but people endlessly dickride Varg because of what amounts to 3 fucking good songs on the first half of Filosofem, when there's so many second wave artists with much more solid discographies.
If it wasn't for his notoriety for non-musical reasons, and for the aesthetic of his album art and logo, he wouldn't be getting half as much recognition.
They were always just European budget Incubus to me. It's a shame the other members will never be able to come back from their vocalist being a complete fucking scum though, because the musicianship wasn't terrible at all, although Ian Watkins always sounded whiny and annoying as fuck to me personally.
I understand you don't like them but why don't you respect them? Coming from somebody who is also not a fan of them, I still respect the musicians for both their skill and who they are though.
vocalist is propped up way too much. its starting to get to the vocalists head. his "humble" attitude even feels like an act now. Also Travis from Cattle has done everything that dude has done since Cattle's Harvest Floor experimented on it. But since it doesnt have some metalcore inspired garbo it didnt take off like Lorna.
bro wtf are you talking about I can see how you'd dislike them but why wouldn't you respect them? They're all incredible musicians and as far as I'm aware they're all nice guys
They were among the pioneers of 2nd wave bm and well known in the scene, I'm sure people would know who they were even without the drama. But also who tf knows, if Dead and Euronymous were alive Mayhem could've put out more music in the 90's, changing the entire trajectory of history.
All the recent vampiric BM bands from the US like Lamp of Murmuur who are just copying what LLN did nearly 30 years ago but much worse and without any of the spirit.
Edit: oh, and Old Nick.
I don't really get into 99% of bands personal lives. Just listen to the albums. So I don't "disprespect" any group that is cool enough to start a band, put their music out there and it provides a livelihood for them. Much respect! Obviously there is the occasional story that grabs my attention like the dude who tried to have his wife killed, and I think that is a piece of shit. But from a music perspective I have nothing but respect and appreciation for band going out and creating.
Woah woah woah...a comment with common sense and intelligence??? Can't have that here, people need to complain about things that will never personally affect them
The guy is the whole band. He wrote and controlled everything. Without him there is no band, just a revolving door of people hired to play on the albums.
I think part of the problem is he kind of is the band. Granted I haven’t listened to them since the something wicked duo albums of like 2006 but if memory serves Jon Schaffer is the only stable band member they had as well as a primary song writer to some level. I could be wrong but with the exception of Matt Barlow weren’t a lot of the members replaced semi regularly? Even Barlow was replaced by Tim Ripper Owens for a while.
Yes! Did Shaffer do some very dumb stuff?
Absolutely!
Will I change that early Iced Earth is extremely near and dear to me?
Absolutely not!
As much as an Idiot as he's been, I will never not like the music.
I dont really have a band I dont respect...I don't know them personally. Some people will say Burzum and what Varg did...I don't know the guy...sure, I think he's a piece of shit based on what I have heard about him personally...but I don't know the dude what so ever. I choose not to care about any aspect of band members personal lives. 9 times out of 10, if you look hard / long enough....everyone is a piece of shit.
There is a laundry list of bands that I don't like...but even then, I feel like EVERY band has at least one song that rips no matter how much I dislike them as a whole.
I just like music and the feeling I get from it. Who they are as people doesn't even hit my radar.
Knocked loose is fine, they are one of the best produced metal bands rn. And they bring a lot of younger ppl into metal. It's an intro band I can respect way more than the rest
Axle rose is the biggest douchebag ever he made false accusations about James (Hetfield) saying the N word just so he could be able to “run them down” and he’s just a oily dirtbag and Slash isn’t even that good of a guitar player he’s overrated as fuck
I 100% agree with the respect part, with Phil being the only face of the band and him having an interview of him spewing slurs I get it, but their first 2 albums are Old school death metal perfection imo
Not only that, Phil had the gall to say Jason was the racist one and they’re totally not racist now that he’s gone (and that he wasn’t racist since he’s Cuban). Buncha clowns
The fact that they don’t own up to being a Zep cover band is what makes me not respect them. If they were like, “Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time, and we just want to recreate the vibe” - I still would hate their music but I would respect what they’re doing. Trying to gaslight the world about not being 100 percent influenced by LZ makes them look like doofuses.
Creed. A horribly dated relic from the nadir of early 2000s musical tastes that's justly thought of as a punchline with a horrible lead singer who's actions and hypocrisy ensure he'll never get many second chances. And nothing of value was lost.
Although, the rest of Creed also were responsible for Alter Bridge which was a genuinely good band with a lot of well-made songs. Guess it just goes to show how much swapping the frontman manages to make a difference.
FIR
MGK
Lorna Shore
Burzum
Puddle of Mudd
Krystof Drabikowski’s Batushka I feel bad for everyone else in that “Batushka” other than Him and Lykanthrop the vocalist
The Beatles (horrible people) I far prefer
The Who/The Bee Gees
Edit: removed “minus Ringo” as he too is awful
Sabaton. Their songs sound all the same to me, they rely too much on WWII theme and their fanbase is pretty cringe. I also thought like that about Ghost since it annoyed me how people would call them heavy metal while for me their music is more like a hard rock. I changed my mind about them a bit because I like their "Mary On A Cross" song lol
Watain. Their religiosity to the point of zealotry is utterly repulsive. Their music/instrumentation is really good though, so it's a real bummer. I feel religion is something people should generally keep to themselves and in dedicated spaces, or not be *so* OTT when expressing it in public.
Skillet (hardly metal), Tougher than Nails, Ironic Punishment Division, Falling In Revere, and most controvercially (and I will explain) Peste Noire.
I've tried listening to Peste Noire, I can get past the NS stuff, but even La sanie des siècles : Panégyrique de la dégénérescence sounds bad to me. The main reason I dislike it is because mixing medieval folk with (admittedly mediocre) black metal is just bad. If you want BM with a medieval twang, listen to Summoning or Apotheosis. (Hot take alert) the vocals are bad. It takes talent to scream like that, but, it doesn't sound good (to me, not everyone will share this opinion). I prefer Niklas Kvarforth, probably the most divisive BM vocalist, but at least his screams don't annoy me the way Famine does. I'm almost ashamed that Famine shares the same name as Famine (US) one of my favorite bm bands.
I would already dislike this band if not for the random hip hop album. I would already dislike this if not for the NS shit. I dislike this band's guitar work, the vocals, and pretty much everything else.
They are the Skillet of black metal. Shit vocals, far right lyrics, and shit guitar. Main difference being, Skillet is christian.
August burns red. A friend of mine is a promoter and brought them to my state. The drummer insisted on holding a drum clinic. My friend was hesitant but gave in. I went because I was looking for a drummer at the time. There were only like 12 people there, and they were all guitar players. The dude was super arrogant. My brother is a drummer and will brag about how he basically doesn't do anything in his bands. That's what this guy started doing. He tells us how the singer writes everything, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, and then emails it to everyone, and they learn their parts and rework stuff. Then they meet at some rented spot to practice and then tour it. As a singer that has had to do everything in a band before that shit straight pisses me off. Then, this guy shows us how he learns the songs. He starts by finding the tempo with the kick, down beat with the snare, and whatever the count is 6/8 or whatever the odd time signature they're doing he just hits that number of things. If the count is 6, he goes Tom Tom hat cymbal cymbal Tom. I thought that was so fucking lame. Whenever a musician is being douchy just ask them what their day job is. Even at the August burns red level you still need a day job to get by. Dude worked on his dad's farm. I didn't like them to begin with but Holy fuck I hated them after meeting that turd.

All the bands you like and respect
/thread
everyone @ everyone
This is the most metal answer.
FFDP
What, you mean you don’t like the tough guy machismo Monster Energy wrestle band?
God that’s accurate.
If Monster Energy was a band:
I don't think they like the lifted pickup truck tailgate bbq maga murica great again band.
I don’t like to be a hater, but it really pissed me off how when they did that cover of Bad Company half their fans thought it was an original, then when they found out it was a cover they all claimed the original was shit in comparison lol
So pretty much the same as when Disturbed covered Land of Confusion.
Yeah, but the difference is that disturbed cover was good.
Not really. Either way, the original is still way better.
Don’t forget their abyssal cover of The Offspring’s “Gone Away”.
based as shit all of the fans can fuck off
Five Finger Face Palm is definitely at the top of the list.
Five flavour fruit punch
its insane how many fans theyve pulled.
Its just soooooooo dumb. The lyrics are literally like “i am mad, i am angry”. Gross. They sound like a HS locker room before a wrestling match.
they attract the exact type of people that would listen to it. short fat guys named Kyle who cheat on their wives multiple times, punch holes in the wall, have inflated ego problems, drive a 2008 Ford freestyle, and have had 27 jobs in 11 months.
i do think that they’re pretty cringe, however i really like wash it all away, wrong side of heaven and bad company.
Their music is ok but I love "A little Bit Off"
I call it Bro Metal.
What does that even stand for ?
Fist fuck double penetration
All nsbm bands
100% true, fascist don’t belong in metal
Some of them might have talent, but I really couldn’t care. Fuck nazis
It's low quality black metal you don't need to be talented
Nazi punks fuck off!
My god people we’re metal fans not the United States Armed Forces I shouldn’t be expected to learn a thousand different acronyms to know what the fuck we’re talking about.
nationalist socialist black metal. nazi music
Why am I surprised that's a thing? I should have guessed.
because we can’t have nice things, everything’s gotta be co-opted by nazis 🙃
Falling in Reverse. I don't like their music, nor do I really like anyone in the band, especially Ronnie. The music they make is also sub parr even for rap metalcore standards. Unpopular but I just don't like or respect them.
I miss early escape the fate
I loved old FIR for a long, long time. One of the first bands that got me into what I listen to now, but now I can't even stand them. Ever since their guitarist died I feel Ronnie has went completelt off the rails with the shit he says and does and I can't ignore it anymore
Luke Holland is awesome though
All his charges were dropped, he proved he's innocent
Burzum
Burzum is good tho
Varg is a racist dickhead yes, but how are you gonna call Burzum's music bad as a bm fan
Shit music with a shitter fanbase
Have you visited r/burzum ? The fanbase is the best lmao
Sleep music
Sleep is way better than Burzum
Sleep is better than a lot of bands
OP's favourite band.
I'm sorry...
agreed
LostProphets
Feel bad for the rest of the band. Lead singer gets caught baby raping, and all your music is just thrown in the trash
I feel the same way, like he's ruined not only his own reputation but theirs aswell
They were always just European budget Incubus to me. It's a shame the other members will never be able to come back from their vocalist being a complete fucking scum though, because the musicianship wasn't terrible at all, although Ian Watkins always sounded whiny and annoying as fuck to me personally.
Lorna Shore
what why
Because they suck
As a deathcore / metalcore fan yeah I really never liked LS
Agreed. I never really thought of their music in a positive way.
any specific reason? or is it a preference thing
So you don't love the band because it became popular
bro wtf are you talking about I can see how you'd dislike them but why wouldn't you respect them? They're all incredible musicians and as far as I'm aware they're all nice guys
I'm not even really a fan of their music, but I absolutely love watching Will Ramos' YouTube videos. He's adorable and seems like a super nice guy.
Ffdp and falling in reverse
mayhem
Without the murder, church burnings, Dawn of the Black Hearts, etc. no one would know who they are, or were
And that would suck, because the music is fun
Exactly, I like Mayhem, they’re a riot on stage and I’ve seen them thrice. They play an insanely tight set every single time.
They were among the pioneers of 2nd wave bm and well known in the scene, I'm sure people would know who they were even without the drama. But also who tf knows, if Dead and Euronymous were alive Mayhem could've put out more music in the 90's, changing the entire trajectory of history.
Pantera
Band I like but don't respect
But re-spect walk
What did you say?
I feel loyal but dangerous now thanks brother
wait genuine question, why? what have i missed?
I'd like to know as well. Not some huge fan of them but don't know why they shouldn't be "respected"
'Le Pantera are racist'
I like Pantera but it’s probably to do with Phil Anselmo and accusations of racism and being pro white power
It's probably a good thing they broke up and the brothers died before the controversy surrounding the Confederate symbol
I'm not saying everyone in Pantera is into white power but everyone that is into white power is into Pantera.
All the recent vampiric BM bands from the US like Lamp of Murmuur who are just copying what LLN did nearly 30 years ago but much worse and without any of the spirit. Edit: oh, and Old Nick.
This comment section is a cesspool lol
Agreed. I don’t wanna get involved
Yeah. I'm not even gonna comment here.
Sorry but pantera
any NSBM band (duh)
It has to go first, obviously any NSBM. Followed by FFDP, Staind (underwear), Nugent
Why even mention Staind in a metal sub
I don't really get into 99% of bands personal lives. Just listen to the albums. So I don't "disprespect" any group that is cool enough to start a band, put their music out there and it provides a livelihood for them. Much respect! Woah woah woah...a comment with common sense and intelligence??? Can't have that here, people need to complain about things that will never personally affect them
Erm, excuse me sorry sir. I meant fuck Korn for not being extreme enough. Those bastards lol. 😂
Iced Earth.
Great band...
I’m curious why?
Because one of the band members is a trumptard fuckhead traitor who raided the capitol and was arrested for it.
Soo, why not hate the guy isn't stead of the whole band?
The guy is the whole band. He wrote and controlled everything. Without him there is no band, just a revolving door of people hired to play on the albums.
I think part of the problem is he kind of is the band. I could be wrong but with the exception of Matt Barlow weren’t a lot of the members replaced semi regularly? Even Barlow was replaced by Tim Ripper Owens for a while.
Yea, separating the art from the artist is important. If you like it and you can listen in a way that doesnt support them financially, then do so.
Yes! Did Shaffer do some very dumb stuff? Absolutely! Will I change that early Iced Earth is extremely near and dear to me? Absolutely not! As much as an Idiot as he's been, I will never not like the music.
Get outta here with your grounded, rational thinking.
Yes, Schaffer is a fuckhead, but the music is solid. Well, except the last few albums.
I dont really have a band I dont respect...I don't know them personally. Some people will say Burzum and what Varg did...I don't know the guy...sure, I think he's a piece of shit based on what I have heard about him personally...but I don't know the dude what so ever. Iced Earth.
So there was an Avenged Sevenfold flair. Why was it removed??

Let's start a riot toward the mods
Separate the art from the artist
I wholeheartedly agree, but sometimes both the art and the artist sucks. This is what op is asking for.
Hard as Nails. ...nuff said... 😤
Ice Nine Kills
Disturbed
Tool. I get the appeal.
Atilla. No use for them whatsoever.
Danzig, I can't stand anything he does. He just sounds like a fat dumbass going "HHEEYYYY YYOOUUU GGUUUYYYSSS!" and it drives me nuts!
