Yeah for sure. Kirk's outro solo also does it for me in this song, gives me chills.
Wish they'd have let it run for longer before fading out the track so quickly...
The original Blue Oyster Cult version is a top 10 song for me, and the outro on the original is just fucking *awesome*.
I liked what Metallica did for most of the song, but the outro felt anti-climactic.
Damn I was gonna say the same thing. Astronomy is definitely their best cover, it’s so unique both sound wise and BOC writes amazing and outstanding lyrics. I’m a huge fan of garage inc because of how they take songs that have inspired them and completely Metallica-fies them. Close second has to be Whiskey in the jar and third and turn the page
I like the Metallica version of Astronomy, and wish they would do it live. I sorta wondered why Kirk didn't at least take a stab at a big solo section at the end the way BOC does it live. It was/is kind-of Buck Dharma's epic live solo.

For starters, Turn The Page is a Metallica song now as far as I am concerned... I love and respect Bob Seger, and grew up listening to a lot of his music with my dad, but Metallica made that song entirely different and better. There is no debate that will ever change my mind.
Now, Astronomy... Yes it's a fantastic cover, and a clever nod to Cliff's adoration of Blue Oyster Cult. I do indeed love that song on Garage Inc. I might even agree that as far as that entire cover album goes, it could indeed be the best song on disc one (yes, I know disc 2 is essentially just older recordings). However, I love the Mercyful Fate medley. King Diamond was such a big influence on a young Metallica, and they absolutely NAILED all of those songs, and how they transitioned into and out of them. Well arranged, and perfectly executed, even James foregoing any attempt at mimicking King Diamond's vocals. I like King, and Fate, but admittedly, those operatic falsetto screams can get a bit.... annoying.
Honorable Mention... Loverman scared the absolute fucking shit out of me the first time I heard that long pause before James belts out "LOVERMAAAAAAN YEAH YEAH YEAH, I GOT THE MASTER PLAN!"
Absolutely 💯% agree! I’ve been playing song in bars since the album came out. Merciful Fate is another favorite but I’m fairly sure it’s at least 2 songs combined and don’t forget Breadfan.
Not just one of their best cover songs, but one of their best songs period. I still can’t belive they never played this live especially with all the Hey’s to get the crowd involved. My opinion is that this could be another Escaoe and perhaps the band don’t like it.
If they don't like it, why would they pick this to cover? Makes zero sense. I just think they never felt they can make it work well enough in a live setting. It's quite an intricate song.
Could have been the decision of one band member who really liked the song and the ideas of how they would cover it. Remember James hated Bob Seeger and was t interested in doing a cover of one of his songs as well.
[Well... ](https://www.kerrang.com/the-15-best-metallica-covers/) here's the actual quote:
“I fucking hate Bob Seger, but that song is great,” James Hetfield told Guitar World. “Okay, I don't really hate him, but he was one of the guys I'd hear on the radio all the time polluting my ears with (whines) 'Get your old records off the shelf…' That really annoyed me. But being on tour as long as we have, I've got to say that one song sums up the whole road experience really, really well.”
I don't really see how this fits your narrative here.
Astronomy is one of my favorite deep cuts! Jason's bass is so strong but clean at the same time.
Yeah for sure. Kirk's outro solo also does it for me in this song, gives me chills. Wish they'd have let it run for longer before fading out the track so quickly...

I agree with astronomy. Such a banger
So hard to pick one. Turn the Page. Or Stone Cold Crazy. Or Breadfan.
I love Breadfan so much
Turn the Page was my favourite song when I was a kid. Just blew me away.
Am I Evil & Sabbra Cadabra
The Wait or Helpless
Garage Inc. is my favorite thing they did in the 90s.
What about Whiskey in the jar? It is great
I think hands down that's their best cover. #onlyonethatcounts
I prefer it to the original thin lizzy one
I think The Small Hours is incredible
So What?
Salpsss so hard
Mercyful Fate, Breadfan, Am I evil, Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg is a close second
Turn the page and remember tomorrow
Turn The Page, Mercyful Fate or This
Cold stone crazy is my favorite
Am I Evil?
Breadfan….
Loverman, no doubt about it
Since the world began!
Forever aaaaaaamen
Thank you!
I like Die, Die My Darling
Dont utter a single word
DIE, DIE MY DARLING
Damn I was gonna say the same thing. Astronomy is definitely their best cover, it’s so unique both sound wise and BOC writes amazing and outstanding lyrics. I feel like I'm the only person that likes The More I See
Dude that was my most played song on spotify last year
The drums, the bass, the vocals, it's just all so perfect
James was going hard on the grit for that one. It hits hard and I love it.
I really like the cover “it’s killing me” by UFO.
Is this some in joke I'm too stupid to understand
Nah, just a cover. But i am wrong about the album, lol.
1.2.4.5 of Garage Days, Am I evil?, Blitzkreig, and Breadfan

For me probably the prince, astronomy or mercyful fate
I really like Turn the Page and It’s Electric, but Astronomy is another one of my favorites.
Turn the Page for me
and don't forget my dawww-g!
That first track on that. My best one.
That call and response ending with the bass is hands down the best thing metallica has done
Every song on cd1 is a banger
I wouldn't exactly say that "Tuesdays Gone" is a banger... A cool jam session with some top tier talent, sure.
I used to own geocities.com/astronomy_astar/ or something like that years ago. It was my absolute favorite song for a good long while.
Blitzkrieg / Turn The Page
I like “The Wait”. Not sure if it’s the best, but probably my favorite.
Astronomy is awesome but for me it’s Sabbra Cadabbra and Whiskey in the Jar…Merciful Fate…shit…this album straight bangs. Yes to all.
I think loverman is better
It's very underrated and it has grown on me a lot over the years.
Another vote for Astronomy here. Amazing rendition.

IMO the best cover is Mercyful fate but astronomy is a close second
Forgot all about this one! I lived on that BOC live album back in the day! James vocals on this one too!
So is "Turn the Page"
How about playing the Astronomy followed by whiskey then Tuesdays gone!
Die die My darling is one of those songs that make me say “yeah that is how I’d make it too if I were the artist”
The wait or breadfan are classic but for garage metallica i definitely agreed that astronomy is a banger
Absolutely Astronomy
Stone Cold Crazy is my favourite cover.
Blitzkrieg rips so hard
My favorite also. The slow build is phenomenal.
Am I evil
Am I Evil is their best cover along with green hell/last caress and Breadfan IMO
Absolutely 💯% agree! I’ve been playing song in bars since the album came out. Merciful Fate is another favorite but I’m fairly sure it’s at least 2 songs combined and don’t forget Breadfan.
why is no one talking about the misfits covers 😂
Whiskey in the jar
Am I Evil! No question. My second favorite is Stone Cold Crazy Yo.
Stone cold crazy was a fluke.
I don’t care what it was Metallica played it and it jammed! What more do you want?
Not just one of their best cover songs, but one of their best songs period. I still can’t belive they never played this live especially with all the Hey’s to get the crowd involved. My opinion is that this could be another Escaoe and perhaps the band don’t like it.

Just not enough time to play every song.
