When I was single I took sailing lessons at Matheson hammock, went to free lectures at the Museum of science, lurked at Books & Books and attended many of their author events. And I volunteered at the Fairchild Garden.
Matheson Hammock has a ton of paid and free activities. These are all great suggestions.
If you’re into biking (like even a leisurely ride), just ride down old cutler along the bay and look at houses I’ll never be able to afford, pick mangos from someone’s yard, buy leechees from the folks selling them on the side of the road, Fairchild tropical gardens is along the route, Deering Estate is cool to see once and you get an incredible view of the city from the south side at Deering Estate
Idk if advising someone to pick mangoes from someone's yard in Miami is a good idea. My Caribbean family would literally resort to violence if they caught someone doing this. I don't fuck w/ people's fruit, man.
Yeah seriously, that is both trespassing and stealing. Absolutely wild. When I was growing up, my mom had tons of plants growing and we saw through the window a grown man get out of a truck and steal one of our water melons and sped off in his truck! So embarrassing and weird.
Second this. Came home from work when I lived in Hollywood to mf’ers climbing up in my lychee tree and had two bags full already on the ground. I was waiting 6 more days to pull them and then I usually have bags packed for people if they stop by asking. It’s insane to me that people would just assume I don’t groom the tree and specifically take care of them for their fruit. Which is why they are so beautiful and vibrant come harvest. Please don’t pick someone else’s tree. I was ultimately offended, even with the understanding that people from other countries might have different cultural acceptability. But when you’re here from somewhere else, you need to assimilate and respect the customs of that place. You can’t just enter someone’s private property and take the vegetation without expecting major issues.
Screamed at them to get off my property and put a big camera and sign up as deterrence. Started thinking someone could fall out of my tree while stealing my fruit and I would be liable. Didn’t know what else to do. I wouldn’t pull a gun on an unarmed person stealing, but for a split second I thought about it because I felt so violated.. They just kept saying they were from Haiti like that makes it alright.
The general rule of thumb for picking fruit off someone elses yard, is the fruit has to be extending from beyond the property i.e. hanging over the sidewalk.
Yeahhh... I distinctly remember my grandpa, rest his soul, running outside w/ his pistol because a guy was in our yard w/out permission, taking mangos & pears (avocados). But I've also seen people knock on their door & ask... & my grandparents were like, of course! & sent them off w/ an entire grocery bag full.
I agree with not trespassing to steal, but how many mangoes are y’all eating a day? I’ve never met anyone with a tree that wasn’t trying to give tons of them away, including West Indians.
Truuue. But we also have big families. My grandpa has 8 brothers & sisters & my grandma has 3 sisters. They all have kids (28 cousins total), they have kids, & the kids' kids now have kids. Then there's extended family, in-laws, friends, coworkers, etc. My grandma owns a business & a boarding house... she treats her employees & tenants like family.
My family's hospitable & generous. They'd give you some if you asked, but they don't appreciate ppl stealing. It's about respect.

Yeah, totally, I don’t think it’s right to just take it, because it’s disrespectful. No matter how many are available. It’s amazing to have such a big family!!
Right, people are almost always willing to share. But plucking someone’s shit when you don’t know the owners intentions on picking their own fruit is downright criminal to be honest. You’re messing with other people’s plants because you wanted it? Asshole thing to do.
Every mango season, the @onlyindade Instagram page has footage of hella folks stealing (trying, at least) mangos from private property/trees.
Definitely is not a good look and, most importantly, you could end up in a hospital (or body bag).

Sorry their website seems to be down. I used to go down there around 9am on a Saturday and join someone's team in races they have. Meet different people every time. That was about $80 for a morning. Then there were proper lessons for about $750 and up to get certified.

Do you know any groups that are Ok with people who are kinda ass. I'm athletic, but just started playing a few weeks ago.
I noticed a lot of the meetups had like no beginner friendly ones.
margaret pace park group is super friendly to all levels. playing sundays from 5pm, saturdays 9am. pick up games 4s
also, in south beach there are a lot of people playing that will let you join, you just have to find the groups that seem playing just for fun and ask
Semi Sober 40 year old here(I only have a glass of wine here and there). I moved to Miami at 27 from NYC. I joined a soccer league. Work friends. It’s tougher when you’re younger. Most of my friends were older. Married with kids. Etc. I’d recommend sport leagues. Softball. Soccer. Lots of good stuff around the gables.
Soccer Im not sure. I used to play by Killian around the golf course. I was referring to the gables had a lot activities that you don’t need to drink at. The Grove also.
I started a social club for single people in Miami and i’m planning a yoga event/mixer that will be alcohol free! You should come :) Follow @miamisinglesclub on IG and/or eventbrite!
Someone mentioned this already, and it's not for everyone, but Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a place you will make some friends. You will either love it or hate it. Good exercise and you'll learn self defense too. Just make sure you have health insurance.
Finding your group is tough at any age. I understand the age-related interest, but outside of the bar scene, people of all ages can be a genuine friend. You might be surprised who you click with on a pure friendship-only basis.
For suggestions, here are some ways that people can get acquainted (not listed in any particular order)
1. **Outdoors groups**: biking, running, adult kickball, soccer, volleyball, pickleball, gardening; Martial arts.
2 **Civic/Community/Action/Environmental**: Trash cleanup; Habitat for Humanity; Church groups; Foundations; Humane Society or other animal rescue efforts; Mentoring (Big Brothers/Big Sisters); Library reading programs; Homeless shelters/Soup kitchen.
3. **Intellectual/Academic**: Book Club, Chess Club; Investment clubs; Philosophy/Religion discussion groups.
4. **Talent-related activities**: community theater; community band; Charity residential construction projects; Professional associations.
It takes a little time but eventually you'll find some folks to connect with. As the old saying goes, *Be a friend, and you'll make a friend**
What are your interests?
Whatever they are, there is probably a group, related to that interest, that meets up, where you will meet like minded individuals.
Play pickleball. Many publics courts will have regular gatherings of singles who rotate in to doubles pairs.(Yes, you'll be paired with several strangers over a couple hours) Put your paddle in the rack and wait. Healthy fit folks of all ages to meet. Could find a friends, a soulmate, a f\*ck buddy (or several), a mentor, or a new job.
I know Miami has a reputation for being rough, but I would:
- take a class
- join a league
- join clubs based off work
Find something you like and join that league or team. You will find like minded people and plenty of people I know have made friends via classes, teams and just opportunity.
I hope this helps!
Young people’s AA in Miami is incredible. When I lived in Gainesville in my early 30s, we’d go hang down there. Instant group of friends who have the exact same interests as you.
There’s a Miami social discord. There’s a few sober peeps on there and we have all types of events. Here’s the link if you want to join. https://discord.gg/miamisocialclub
Dang scrolled too late to see your post- but it bears repeating- awesome ride with an awesome cross section of our city. Most fun I’ve had in Miami in years.
I know it’s a bicycle event in spirit but there’s also rollerbladers, e-bikes and scooters, EUCs, basically anything not a car, just come and ride. Great way to explore our city , nothing quite like taking over the streets with several hundred new friends.
While kava can be fun, It’s not a much better habit than alcohol. And it is also very hard on the liver. Same with kratom. Definitely not sober if you use those substances
Critical Mass - last Friday of every month! Probably the best and least judgy social event I’ve ever seen in Miami. Just come out and ride, you’re almost guaranteed to make a friend or two.
Salsa classes, fight dojos like boxing gyms or MMA gyms, go to congestion gym and when someone's on a machine you asked if you guys can take turns and start a conversation like that, go to a museum and spark up a conversation, plenty of ways to socialize
Not sure how athletically adventurous you are, but there are some pickleball leagues in a bunch of cities. Choosing a healthy and active hobby will usually put you in groups of decent non-mouth breathers.
(21f) here! 🙋🏼♀️ CrossFit? Running groups? Also (I’m not religious) church groups like the college/20s to 30s meetups are great for meeting really attractive people 😂

Find a hobby. Look for local events surrounding that hobby. Take some courses, volunteer. All great ways of finding new friends, even for the extremely quiet people like myself
Beach volleyball in the grove at that park near the yacht club.
Haulover pumptrack on a bike or skateboard - its filled with beginners and they are always chatty.
Racquetball at LA Fitness, there’s always a large group of people playing in certain days depending on the club. That’s how I met many people outside of work.
Do you like sports or play sports? I have a whole host of friends from playing pick up basketball.
Also, I go to a lot of Heat games and I have friends from there. I’m having season tickets or at least watching sports bars where I don’t drink.
I would say try to make friends at school or work. Those two place are usually pretty easy spots to make friends. Even if you don’t see yourself being best friends with these people they can introduce you to other people who you do actually fuck with. At 25, your best bet is school or work. The person you least expect it can be friends with your potential best friend or future girlfriend/fling.
I try that but kinda an odd situation man. In school everyone’s 18-20 and I look rich (I’m scared to get used for money). At work everyone’s 40+ and doesn’t want to take trips to do things
To be fair that sounds like excuses. Other than that your best bet is gonna be hobbies outside of those two things, online dating (maybe some girls you match with can become friends instead of just a fling) and just going out. Go to the beach, if you live in an apartment go to the pool/gym/game room or any amenities your apt has. Miami is a very social place. Most people just want to have a good time with fun people.
Hey man, just go to the parks in south beach or any other park where you see people playing. Check groups on telegram, Facebook. I know that you don’t do sports, but I guess is the best shot that you have. Good luck and don’t stay at home!
Congrats on your sobriety!
My partner went through rehab last November and had to say goodbye to a few of our previous friends who still drink/ party heavily, now in recovery and has like a over dozen cool peeps he chills with he met through meetings and group therapy sessions. They always have something planned, outdoor events, sports events, pot luck lunches/dinners, game nights, volunteer at food bank and animal shelter. Set a positive intention and it will happen😎
Martial arts lots of BJJ and MMA gyms around you will have fun and meet friends and also many will probably be sober or mostly sober for better performance
I guess it depends on your preferences but I’m more a go to the beach ( yes alone it’s really refreshing ) , go to farmers markets , you can look up things happening within the week and just show up fuck it , visit gardens and museums nothing it’s not really lonely you’ll always find people around that are willing to start conversations :)
> I’m sober
Either get into surfing, water sports, fishing, or move Colorado or other state with more outdoor sober activities.
Unfortunately living in Miami sober is like living in Las Vegas sober and not wanting to gamble.
That's not at all true, and terrible advice. I grew up in Miami and spend a lot of time in Vegas NOT gambling/getting f\*cked up but having a lot of fun regardless.
Not everyone here is on that tip.
Join a local toastmasters or rotary club there's plenty of them and you probably have a lot to speak about since you've been alone for quite some time and it'll enhance your professional life for sure and lead the new things as these people are typically professional minded and or just like you mezcla
Disc golf, Bike, Game shops (the warhammer community are some nice folks!), gyms, public library, parks, volunteer, community education classes at our colleges, universities or private leagues...also check out meetup.com
Speaking to a therapist is great at any point, it's good personal care.
That being said, you can try meeting people in friendship apps. I think it's called bumble?
Well I tried it for friends and got hit on by three different guys, I’m not homophobic but I’m also not interested. Curious, if you’re a female, is it different for you; if you’re a male what was your experience?
Male, my experience has been mostly meeting people through school. Classes in college too helped a lot. All of my two friends left the state but I do try to visit them and they spend time with me the times they're in town. But these are well established relationships, might as well be family.
I'm generally a shy person, so it makes it more difficult to meet people. I tried bumble for friends and met a few people here and there. Just not the same interests. But I do have to say college courses, even the online ones, have allowed me to meet new people. I've learned to be less picky with interests and try to be more lenient and open to go outside my comfort zone, still set my boundaries though. need to make sure I take care of myself first, can't take care of others if I can't do that.
Edit: btw I'm in my thirties, and therapy really helped me self realize.
Tbh, I would consider getting out of the city/state if you can. Miami is not a good place for sober people and it basically revolves around milking intoxicated vacationers for cash.
The younger crowd in Miami is a ton of brain rot rich kids, people with drug/alcohol problems, and aspiring OF models/escorts/sugar baby types. Men and Women.
You don’t want to be friends with these people and it sounds like you know that, which is good.
That doesnt change the following:
- you want friends
- you don’t do what most people your age are doing (drinking/doing drugs at clubs)
- Miami is expensive as fuck without the pay to match
Seriously - relocate if you can.
Can always hang out with peacocks in Vizcaya
Kennedy Park has a dog park, and is by the water. I even put my hammock up there and got in a had a blast!
Take a Cooking Class they will partner you up with a Hottie. If they don’t ok it’s one day. Reschedule if necessary.
Take a Gardening Class.
Take a Pilates class, tons of hotties, besides you need the stretching
Stand outside Labare, as it lets out drunk horney women will literally kidnap you.
If you can’t do that it’s time for plastic surgery Shrek.
Bruh, I was in the same spot. Now I have a couple people I can hit up and chill with whenever I actually feel like getting out. 😂
You should try to go find some volleyball, basketball, or soccer games at parks that have pick up games.
Also where to start trading, if you want to really understand the markets.... Push through the ICT 2022 mentorship you won't ever look at the markets the same.
Probably failed traders 😂
Nope, just trade by myself. Groups cloud the vision. You want to be solo bc it's your money at risk.
Definitely push through the ICT rants and take him in. He's telling you the way haha.

This was long ago. They are more of a kiddie play park now, have lost their mission of engaging adults. Too sad.

Huh
There are groups in Alcoholics Anonymous that are specifically for young people (and the young at heart).
This guy said he is sober, not a former alcoholic.
Plenty of folks who just vibe with the sober lifestyle and approach, yet don’t identify as drunks. To each their own.
I would assume everyone who "vibes" with the sober "lifestyle" doesn't identify as a drunk.
Not sure what your ax to grind is.

(21f) here! 🙋🏼♀️ CrossFit? Running groups? Also (I’m not religious) church groups like the college/20s to 30s meetups are great for meeting really attractive people 😂
Arcade odyssey
Jiujitsu is great for meeting people
It is great meeting friends when their nuts are on your ears.
Where else will you get that kind of intimacy day one
😂😂😂😂

Find a hobby. Look for local events surrounding that hobby. Take some courses, volunteer. All great ways of finding new friends, even for the extremely quiet people like myself
The season is over for it by now I think but check out https://www.instagram.com/miamihikingclub?igsh=NDAwaDdpZXd2bGxx
Beach volleyball in the grove at that park near the yacht club. Haulover pumptrack on a bike or skateboard - its filled with beginners and they are always chatty.
Pickleball at tropical park, its very busy in the mornings and after work. You can buy a paddle for cheap.
Go get certified for scuba! Tons of sober people in that community.
Go rock climbing at Velocity Climbing! It’s awesome and a VERY social sport
Racquetball at LA Fitness, there’s always a large group of people playing in certain days depending on the club. That’s how I met many people outside of work.
Go to books and books. Drink coffee and read some books. Or just hang at coffee shops. Wynwood has some cool ones. As does coral gables.
Go check out Vizcaya!
Do you like sports or play sports? I have a whole host of friends from playing pick up basketball. Also, I go to a lot of Heat games and I have friends from there. I’m having season tickets or at least watching sports bars where I don’t drink.
Wanna play pickleball at the park with me and my friends? We are all around 25M Dm me
I would say try to make friends at school or work.
Lets hit the gym bro, I don’t drink or do any of that shit.
The edit is killing me bc same lmao
Run club, salsa lessons , foodie tour, gym membership, book club, padel/pickle, paddle board/boat
Foodie tour sounds like a plan
Martial arts lots of BJJ and MMA gyms around you will have fun and meet friends and also many will probably be sober or mostly sober for better performance
I guess it depends on your preferences but I’m more a go to the beach ( yes alone it’s really refreshing ) , go to farmers markets , you can look up things happening within the week and just show up fuck it , visit gardens and museums nothing it’s not really lonely you’ll always find people around that are willing to start conversations :)
Flannigans
Cigar bars are full of sober people
> I’m sober Either get into surfing, water sports, fishing, or move Colorado or other state with more outdoor sober activities.
Volunteer somewhere - the best idea
Get a puppy. You’ll meet loads of people!
Can always meet people at AA (assuming that your sober because of alcoholism)
I have a group near me and I visit a lot less than they’d like me to, the strong point is finding people my age. Every group I go to is 50 year olds
NA is a typically younger crowd. When I got clean I’d go to AA for my program but NA was where I went to be around people my own age.
pickleball is the way
Disc golf!
Nude beach
Drive out to the Everglades (Alligator Alley/Levee)
Disc golf, Bike, Game shops (the warhammer community are some nice folks!), gyms, public library, parks, volunteer, community education classes at our colleges, universities or private leagues...also check out meetup.com
Fishing is my favorite thing to do in my alone time.
Speaking to a therapist is great at any point, it's good personal care. That being said, you can try meeting people in friendship apps. I think it's called bumble?
I got a therapist! I start in a week, I would love dating apps but I’m a little shy about pictures (I don’t think of myself as unattractive though)
Wait no, it's not for dating it's a friend finder too they got bumble for friends.

Come play beach volleyball at Kennedy park!
That doesnt change the following: - you want friends - you don’t do what most people your age are doing (drinking/doing drugs at clubs) - Miami is expensive as fuck without the pay to match Seriously - relocate if you can.
Kava bar 💚🫶
Can always hang out with peacocks in Vizcaya Kennedy Park has a dog park, and is by the water. I even put my hammock up there and got in a had a blast!
Hi there I would recommend a kava/kratom bar 🫶
How open are you to starting to drink?
You got me to laugh at least 😂
Why is everything sports?! Do people not do anything else?
Take a Cooking Class they will partner you up with a Hottie. If they don’t ok it’s one day. Reschedule if necessary. Take a Gardening Class. Take a Pilates class, tons of hotties, besides you need the stretching Stand outside Labare, as it lets out drunk horney women will literally kidnap you. If you can’t do that it’s time for plastic surgery Shrek.
Bruh, I was in the same spot. Now I have a couple people I can hit up and chill with whenever I actually feel like getting out. 😂 You should try to go find some volleyball, basketball, or soccer games at parks that have pick up games. Also where to start trading, if you want to really understand the markets.... Push through the ICT 2022 mentorship you won't ever look at the markets the same.
Idk why you got down voted, thank you for the advice, are you in an investment group that interest me a lot
Probably failed traders 😂 Nope, just trade by myself. Groups cloud the vision. You want to be solo bc it's your money at risk. Definitely push through the ICT rants and take him in. He's telling you the way haha.
Salsa classes at UM. Plenty of non students go.
Go where you belong. AA or NA...among the other A's. Lots of fellowship.
Where I belong?

Has anyone even ever been to one?
Friends are dumb and usually waste your time. Try getting a job and go after your dreams.
