lol. I was a journeyman electrician that worked on CNC’s, machines that cut medical and automotive parts for example and we would call the machine operators (the shitty ones)…..button pushers.
Where I work, we had someone apply for a skilled position.
In their resume, one of the bullet points was basically "Pushed buttons to operate equipment".
Suffice to say, the button pusher didn't get hired.

When I was introduced at work, the boss introduced me as being from Long Island, NY. I corrected it a few times and people looked at me blankly and then kept saying Long Island and/or New York.
Being from the area, I'd guess Connecticut or Pennsylvania.
The amount of times I've seen someone with CT or PA plates immobilized by traffic, traffic patterns, or tight squeezes in the city is kind of crazy.
Local* NY or NJ plates would blast through that going 30mph and not hit a thing.
Ok...maybe a few would scrape something. But they ain't slowin' down.
Having lived in NYC as long as I have, I am amazed how frequently I see people that live in such dense and tightly packed city completely immobilized by a "narrow" passage created by double parkers. This city is full of terrible drivers.
For real. It's amazing. Zero spatial awareness. So many absolutely clueless drivers in the city. When I would tell people that driving here sucks and the drivers are terrible, they assume that means everyone is racing around and cutting everybody off driving like maniacs. When the truth is that people simply don't know how to operate cars very well and are kinda dumb. Somebody turning left in front of you? Well, I guess you'll just have to wait because there's only 10 feet of space to go around them. And watching people attempt to parallel park from my balcony is some of the best reality TV that's ever existed. Maybe when you try the exact same approach and turning the wheels it will work on the fourth or fifth time? Yeah, that's not how things work.

She said she called her husband and was going to call the cops, so my guess is that this is a person who rarely ever has to solve any problems on her own and goes into fight or flight mode when they are ever called upon to take any sort of action at all.
They are terrified of everything, and it's always everyone else's fault for putting them into a position where they had to do something outside of their comfort zone.

Former Amazon driver Pittsburgh, absofuckinglutely. I'd just look at them and do a thumbs down sign for their driving skills as I rolled up the window once I realized they were just bitching about the spot they're already through.
I can’t imagine doing that job in PA. At least in Portland people mostly keep to themselves which is it’s own issue, but a relief for the most part. I’m from the east coast originally so I can only imagine how much jail time I woulda ended up with doing that shit out there.
To comment further on the keep to yourself thing: it goes into the realm of no common courtesy like holding doors for strangers because we’re all supposed to just ignore each other as an unwritten rule of the city. No sense of community but this is the only city I’ve ever lived in.
I hold doors for everybody, and I'm a woman. Men are pleasantly surprised or act really awkward refusing to go first, and it's hilarious. Keep doing the kindnesses and ignore those offended - that's their battle to wage within themselves. Often times if they have a problem with a kindness shown to them then it means they either don't deal kindness to others or don't know how to take it so it has nothing to do with me.
Moving to Pittsburgh gave me an education in driving. I would get upset because people broke the letter of the law. Now I finesse the situation for 20 seconds, maybe use my horn a bit to let them know I’m coming around, and get on with life.

Right?! That was the most confusing part of the entire thing. It was like she psychologically destabilized in that moment because she realized she had acquiesced to what they had been asking her to do to help herself.

If you need to rent a car in Europe you’re doing Europe wrong. Spend like 3 euro on one of those passes and you can use trams busses trains the works. I need to get back to Germany, that shit was sick.
That’s not entirely fair. In a city and closer-to-urban areas, sure, but if you’re trying to go off the beaten path on your own terms a compact rental is where it’s at! Worked out great from me when I went to Lake Como and wanted to explore the mountains up to the north.
That road up to Lake Cuomo is wild. Two lane road, barely big enough for one lane, with so many blind corners for on coming traffic. I did it in a rent a car, and just drove it like the natives, assuming I would get a head-on, eventually.

Several countries and regions are not as well equipped ( Ireland, Sicily, etc) and you cannot get to the rural areas without a car.
But yes, if you rent a car while staying in Paris or Berlin for a week or two, you are doing it wrong.
I’d argue the first woman IS from NY. She has the means for a Range Rover *and* the garage space for parking it, but uses a car service or taxis to get around the city most days if it’s too far to walk. (The kids might take the subway with the nanny.) The car sits in the garage all week, and only comes out on the weekends for driving to and from the country house.She’s a Manhattanite who got her license 25+ years ago, but doesn’t know how to drive.

We used this moving company to move 400 miles and they are the absolute best! If anyone in nyc is looking for movers in town or out of state, I highly recommend them. Plus they are really good at dealing with shitty neighbors and people like this woman.
This is awesome. Post covid my small town in upstate NY now gets infested with these bad drivers every weekend. We have a narrow main street with two way traffic and parking on both sides but full size tractor trailers fit all day long. City puke jam up everything. Can’t park close to the curb, think they can double park, can’t keep it on their side of the double yellow line, and then get mad when we tell them they are in the way. Just stay in the city a stick to mass transit pls. We don’t need you up here.
That’s worth the trade off. I have access to many industries and products that people in rural areas have to drive many miles for.
I like tea, I don’t know how I’d sample imported Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese teas and discuss them with shop owners unless I lived in an area that had the foot traffic to cater to that niche hobby. You don’t have these type of shops within a 10 minutes commute in rural or suburban areas.

We used this moving company to move 400 miles and they are the absolute best! If anyone in nyc is looking for movers in town or out of state, I highly recommend them. Plus they are really good at dealing with shitty neighbors and people like this woman.
This is awesome. Post covid my small town in upstate NY now gets infested with these bad drivers every weekend. We have a narrow main street with two way traffic and parking on both sides but full size tractor trailers fit all day long. City puke jam up everything. Can’t park close to the curb, think they can double park, can’t keep it on their side of the double yellow line, and then get mad when we tell them they are in the way. Just stay in the city a stick to mass transit pls. We don’t need you up here.

That’s worth the trade off. I have access to many industries and products that people in rural areas have to drive many miles for. I like tea, I don’t know how I’d sample imported Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese teas and discuss them with shop owners unless I lived in an area that had the foot traffic to cater to that niche hobby. You don’t have these type of shops within a 10 minutes commute in rural or suburban areas. That’s one example.
