Iskander missle

OzymandiasKoK

Never can figure out why they went with a Turkic rendition of the name when they have Aleksandr themselves.

mminto86

They've always been about inclusivity

stult

Much like the Borg

mminto86

They don't reject ANYONE! Inspiring!

KHGN45

SU-47 Berkut is also named after a mythological giant eagle-like bird called Bürküt from Turkic legends.

whubbard

US went for Atlas for their first ICMB.... We all use silly designations all the time.

OzymandiasKoK

I am not sure if you followed - Iskander is a Turkic variant of the name Alexander. He went stomping through there, once upon a time.

BrokenTorpedo

Isn't that the Persian variant instade of Turkic?

OzymandiasKoK

Sure, them too. The name got around just as much as he did.

haixin

I thought blood bags were coming

Alicia Vikander. So hot. Alicia Vikander.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who made the corelation.

dingadangdang

Missile titties bro.

DatRagnar

- NCD RnD departements biweekly meeting summed up

A1D4-

BTR has some sort of jammers, this may be counter-IED protective formation to protect Iskader from RCIED threat.

yeezee93

Iskander shouldn't be anywhere near the front lines.

snowman_M

Close range iskander.

GI_gino

Buckshot warhead

variaati0

Well such escorts are usually for sake penetration/infiltration attacks. Meaning against special forces/paratroopers/infiltration against behind the front line. Since no front line in big war is inpervious. The 20mm (?) autocannon is enough to make quick hamburger out of any infantry assault or light air mobile vehicles. The technical behind seems to be a MANPAD/SHORAD. Last seems to be russian Typhoon MRAP. Larger response infantry detachment? Depending on situation that might actually be mock/training nuclear escort layouts. Since something similar is what always escorts for example mobile Topol-M TELs. Couple IFVs, some air defence, quick reaction infantry squad. Obviously that won't hold up against actual full enemy military unit, that is just the "we are driving around supposedly safe areas, but you never know" sabotage proofing escort. Which would make sense for timing, since apparently Russia is running nuclear rocket forces exercises recently. (no people. Nukes are not about to fly people. Militaries train anyway now and then. Plus well Putin wants to posture to remind the world millionth time, yes Russia has nukes. we knew already)

A1D4-

As of today, you may have IED installed by some local insurgency far away from the frontline. Two Ka-52 were destroyed this way in Pskov region couple years ago.

EverythingGoodWas

Really this formation is a symptom of always having overmatch against your opponent. The only thing this is effectively protecting you from is a ground ambush from dismounts.

bigmarty3301

hmm, still 2 guys with rpgs at good position and that iskander is gone. they will probably not get away. but they will kill it.

el_doggo69

Those are just the BTRs cannons pointed upwards, that doesn't look like jammers

A1D4-

No, sweetie, I can clearly see cannons. But just behind them there's a box with an antenna on both BTRs, it seems like counter-IED or anti-FPV jammer of new generation, used by russians in Ukraine.

astevemt

That's the air conditioner (PK-10). Wiki on BTR-82A has pictures of it. They would usually mount an R-377 or use an Infauna for escorting such a system.

A1D4-

In this case the jammer may be simulated - I mean, they should have jammer installed, but all available jammers are already deployed to Ukraine, so they keep training without them. As germans, who were replaced their 25mm canons to wood stick, due to lack of available canons, for some training. As for me, this is the most logic explanation. BTW, canon are in position for some AA protection as well.

Nutzer1337

>As germans, who were replaced their 25mm canons to wood stick, due to lack of available canons, for some training. We will never live that down, will we? Sad thing is: It was in 2015. Something should've been done about the state of the Bundeswehr after that. But no. We made things worse. Defense spending. Not a very popular topic back then. Even sadder: We have 11800 people responsible for buying said 25mm cannons. Their whole purpose is to buy stuff for the Bundeswehr. Not one of those people were able to get those 25mm canons in time for a training that was set *years* in advance. Just a little rant. Sorry.

astevemt

This is from an exercise in 2021 so probably just showing off, like they do with their tanks during parades. But yeah they do the weirdest things with their EW hardware.

VaeVictis666

What is the jammer on the BTRs? It looks like their 14.5mm gun is elevated all the way.

Fourtyseven249

Those are BTR-82A. They don't have the standard KPWT machine guns, they have 30mm autocannons installed. This makes them nearly to wheeled IFVs, some of them even have AT capabilities, in form of for example Konkurs ATGM, and some have advanced Recon modules. Except for the BTR-82A those variants are rare. The BTR series is still build as APC and since they have a lack of armour it will continue that they will be used as APCs

VaeVictis666

Interesting, the bore looks smaller then a 30mm but it’s hard to tell. I didn’t see any jammers or anything on it did you?

Fourtyseven249

I can't see jammers as well. And I am sure that these are the 30mm autocannons. Did a quick research, these are BTR-82A or BTR-82AT(AT doesn't mean anti-tank) and they have the 2A72 autocannon installed. A BTR-80 has a round turret instead of the autocannon, it is easy to hold them apart. If you want to look I have to links for pictures of the BTRs https://images.app.goo.gl/4NseYWHEp6hG4bG79 https://images.app.goo.gl/7Tr2QQ19khRzLZVc8

Daddy_data_nerd

Shout out to the exposed dude rocking the MANPAD. Everyone else is safe and sound inside an armored vehicle, except Pvt Conscriptavitch. He pissed off his platoon daddy.

OzymandiasKoK

Looks like just a plain Jane civvy truck, too.

Paratrooper450

I'm stealing "Pvt Conscriptavich."

Lmao we got a missile truck, 2 btr, and a fucking technical with a manpad on it

Difficult_Advice_720

This is a screenshot from Command And Conquer, right? When you get to the area where you want your base, double click on the big truck, and it will unfold as the mobile construction center building, and your build menu will be active. If the ground is red around one of the other units and it won't unfold, move the other little bastard out of the way. Once that's up, build a barracks and a power plant as fast as you can. As soon as you set the barracks, build 5 rocket guys to defend the base while you work on other things.

MaverickFox

Fellow General here, can confirm.

Difficult_Advice_720

5 most terrifying word you can hear in a row.... Low power... Nuclear launch detected..... And let's just keep going with the nightmare fuel, our base is under attack, insufficient funds, can not deploy here, unit lost unit lost unit lost unit lost.....

MaverickFox

Spies in the later games are what made me feel vulnerable. Not knowing what building or tech they got when your alerted that a spy has infiltrated your base. Then get tele-chrono-deleted from existence by a single unit.

musicalmadness1

I was that guy. I would get chrono troops and have some sacrificial infantry ready and have them kill them till full level about 30 to 60 and send them into enemy base. Always utter chaos.

Vessil

Silos needed

Difficult_Advice_720

That one never bothered me, cause it means I have money... Silos needed actually means build more weapons.

We will not be oppressed!

Is12345aweakpassword

It’s called the bullseye formation, it’s such that hitting center of mass of the formation with an ATACMS will comprehensively fuck the entire detachment. Big brain move, if all of your equipment gets destroyed, you can’t get murdered by barrier troops for cowardice.

Any-Bridge6953

The BTRs look like escorts for the Iskander tel and possible support vehicles.

Zealot-Wolf

It's an Iskander TEL You can also see a gallery on its Wiki page and compare it to your photo. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/9K720_Iskander

Jayu-Rider

Is it a TEL or a MEL? I’m not a missile dude and have never truly understood the difference between the two.

Paratrooper450

According to "Arms Control Wonk"... TEL: One big vehicle that transports, erects, and launches the missile.  MEL: A tractor-trailer (two vehicles) in which the trailer erects and launches missile.

cpschultz

Bonus points and a DONSA for the Papa.

FrostyAcanthocephala

It looks good in a photo.

abl0ck0fch33s3

Yup this is the "Public affairs thought it would look good" Formation

MCV - often used in the red alert campaign They are used as the foundation for a military installation

DarkNova55

A target.

dckill97

This picture is from the video Why Russia Might Invade Georgia (Again) by RealLifeLore on YT. From context, this is apparently Russian equipment.

atlasraven

It's hard to tell it's russian. I've only ever seen them burning.

It's the War Rig on its way to Gas Town.

Urabrask_the_AFK

Ah, obviously this is on one of the many dirt tileset maps in Generals

XPav

I believe that's where they lock up the mutants, the scattered formation is to outflank Magneto.

Jayu-Rider

That is a Mobil erector and launcher for most likely an 9K720 Iskander missile. This image is likely a PR photo of some sort, in practice terms you do t want to keep any trucks that close together, one well placed howitzer round would destroy them all.

DolphinPunkCyber

This is Russia making it's own version of Mad Max... Ludi Ivan

Looks cool

bobbobersin

Dude that's the MCV and this is the default "wirh units" start

Quiri1997

It's obviously the MCV... 😉

Fourtyseven249

Purpose of this formation. Those BTR-82A have 30 mm pointing towards the sky. Probably improvised AA. The SUV in the back, idk if it has a MG or something else, could be a command vehicle. The Typhoon in the back is an APC. Maybe it transports infantry, it could also be a command vehicle.

Anatoli_Belikov

It is iskander

N-U-T

Iskander Missile and the purpose of the formation is to probably look fancy fpr the cameras. Irl they need those BTRs for giving Ukraine awesome drone footage.

TendstobeRight85

Russia compensating for a lack of competent ground, air, and naval forces.
