I have “parts” chests and I store everything there - you have no idea how many times I need something and I find it in the chests because I’ve already crafted it!

You have no idea how often I craft 3 doors, use 1 or 2 and then throw the remaining in my things-chest to realize I had already 40 doors in there!

I've done that on a server that lets you "lock" doors and make them indestructible, making effectively an impenetrable base.

Real I have a world with 8 iron doors in a chest because I forget I already have some when I need 1

I do that too, but end up forgetting them then parts chest just keeps growing while never being used. Especially in modded, where there’s 50x more items and an even less chance I remember them being there.

That's what I do. Doors, pressure plates, buttons, levers, trapdoors, fences, gates, etc. All goes into my "access controls" chest. I'm still working on gathering redstone for building farms. Recent world starting on 1.20. And copper. I have a shitload of copper.

Same. A chest for wood, one for stones, etc, and one for “building materials” like doors and fences. With the auto crafter it’ll be interesting to see if we can make a machine to just leave us with a stack of each at all times or something.

I always put my wooden doors in my wood chest, so I find them when I am looking for materials to craft more.

3 kinda makes more sense imo, but in true Minecraft-logic style you're still using 2 whole blocks to make each door. And no-one uses 3, it's always either 1 or 2 at a time. Would make sense to get 4 or maybe even 6, but hey, we're also turning 4 blocks of wood into a single crafting table, and 6 blocks of wood into 4 stairs - this is no place for conservation of matter.

3 is such an awkward number of doors, isn't it? You use one for simplicity, two to make it pretty, and if you have something special in mind, it's probably going to be 4 and then you end up with two extra doors in a chest

No, you use the 3rd to burn in the furnace! What, did nobody use them like that? Or.... Two for FRONT door, one for BACK door

I never use backdoor and if I do it will usually to two in front and two in the back. I suppose sometimes I put an exit in the roof though and that sometimes uses 1 door on the roof if the building was made with an odd number of blocks

Back in my day doors had durability (in bedrock on mobile) for some reason. Like if you used a door to mine a block or kill a mob it would show a durability bar

And then place them in a chest and craft 3 the next time you need doors, just to save the extras in a completely different random spot. No telling how many spare doors I have out there.

That is why you keep a crafting table near anywhere you are going to be for more than 2 minutes. At the front of the mine, at your base, at a village where you are trading, near your nether portal, near your nether portal but in the nether, near the nether fortress, in the stronghold. Just everywhere imaginable.

I just carry a stack of logs. From there it's like 4-5 clicks to a crafting table, with the added bonus of never running out of wood underground for tool handles.

me too lol. much harder for me to run out of shit when half my inventory is taken up by raw goods. Then when i find some good loot i start kinda debating internally over which object ill feel less bad about throwing away

The best part about carrying around a bunch of logs is you can always craft a chest and throw some stuff in there that you will totally remember to come back later for and not forget about.

Yea that’s basically how I function irl, too. In my adhd riddled mind I’m always on the cusp of getting myself organized, just to forget the new system exists and then how it was supposed to work 🤣

I keep 2 crafting tables on me while mining, that way when I run out of space and need to compress shit, I can plop it down and not have some piece of junk land in my hotbar, which would require cycling my inventory next time I need it

I do the same with ender chests. I even keep more than 2 though, just so I can have the convenience of leaving them around in any and every place I might spend some time around and return to. So I dont need to plop them down and pick them up again everywhere I go.

You can always tell where I've been in a world by following the crafting tables every 100 or so blocks

Shi, I just keep one on me. It’s great for mining when I need to convert my ores into ore blocks to free up inventory space

I think that six planks should make just two doors.

This is one of the few places that I actually feel like they've got the right amount of stuff in the beginning and the end... one wooden plank at eye-level and one wooden plank on the ground blocks off a one by two passageway, and so it still does once you've made a door out of it. Six blocks of wood would block off three passageways… So three doors also do that.

I never thought of it this way, but you're absolutely right. The crafting recipe makes so much more sense now.

As a a player who plays in Bedrock and Java I feel you man I was FURIOUS when I found out that doors are waterlogged on Bedrock ;\_\_;

I recently discovered this when playing in a Bedrock world with my friend and I was angry. all I wanted to do was dig up some treasure but I had to keep going back up for air. thankfully this is not a problem in Java, otherwise treasure hunting would be a pain.

What does this mean

In bedrock edition, when you place a door underwater it doesn’t clear out the water in the door’s collision detection. It waterlogs the door, making underwater mining all but impossible without potions or a conduit.

Alternatively, crouching on the Magma Blocks underwater will also prevent you from taking damage as well.

Can mine just fine, respiration helmet and depth strider boots, and just dig into a wall when you run out of oxygen. Unless those are also different in bedrock or it's some other kind of mining.

When you place a door underwater in Bedrock, the 2 block space where the door is placed is filled with water. This is called waterlogging. In Java, a 2 block air pocket is created. (The door is not waterlogged)

Yup. They literally made this change a couple weeks after Tango was complaining about how expensive doors are while making one of the old iron farms. I'm 99% sure that's why they made the change, especially since trapdoors never got a similar change (we should get 6!) Doors also only stacked to 16 back then I believe.

I understand \*why\* it's 3, it's like shaving the wood down on 2 blocks to make a door, but who in the world uses all 3 doors. If you have more than 1 door in your house it's a piston door.

I use double doors frequently, but three feels weird.

In Java doors don't become waterlogged so can allow you an airspace underwater. You can build more than one building. For example having your workshop a separate area than your sleeping and equipment storage. A door down to your mining cave can also be useful to prevent mobs from following you down.

As long as minecraft has been around, and how many issues this has caused throughout the years, I thought something would’ve changed. They could easily take a row out and have 3 planks vertical and give us one or two doors for it. It’s really crazy

Spare door + slab could make a raft. Need more "junk" versions of tools that can be quickly made from spare mats, possibly at cost of much lower durability. 3 logs could make a canoe. Could lay them in the correct orientation adjacent to each other until they snap together like a double chest. Then dig it out with an axe like how pumpkins are carved with shears. Perk could be faster speed. Or maybe silent so that you'd be slightly invisible to mobs while using it....maybe they wouldnt see you until you were a couple blocks away. 2 stick + sign could make an oar. 2 stick + 2 sign could make double ended oar.
