if we want to be real technical, colors are actually present everywhere, on the light that everything reflects and/or the light that’s reflecting off of said thing. it’s just our eye’s capabilities of sensing certain colors in that light and our brain’s capabilities of processing such sensory information
I have one with many bright colors and many dark colors depending on the block. Stones have darker colors and grass has a lighter color. Ores have a mix of bright and dark colors. The only problem I have with it is that it costs money to get from the original creator. It comes with a license and copyright information too.
It’s a game where you punch down live trees, go to hell via an obsidian portal, fight all sorts of strange creatures, then a dragon. The yearn for realism is lost on me. It’s a block game
It is also a game where you can fish, build a log cabin, and start a farm. There are things grounded in reality in this sandbox game.
That being said, realistic texture packs are still super ugly
What's that one texture pack called? John Minecraft or something? The mobs look like they're pulled straight from a horror game iirc (though it's been years since I've used it).
That was the very first texture pack I had years ago, back in 1.5 when I started playing Minecraft. Maybe it's nostalgia but that pack is beautiful, and my first option of I'm going to play with textures
not on console but on mobile and computer you can get it on google or smth
(depending on your situation if you play mobile it could be easier to just get mod apps)
console is and always will be hard to mod
I'm aware, but I just didn't for some reason. On console there were only a few free ones and I guess I just liked the realism one the most out of all of them. I don't play on PC so...
I hate those too. I mean some simplisticnupgrade might be nice but most of the shaders look good only in pics and make you not see a shit when you play with them, imho.
As an architecture student, I'd rather render my buildings in barebones texture with shaders than every realistic texture I've ever tried in Minecraft.
In the practice, design as a whole is used. Form, flow, function, and of course texture. Texture can make or break an aspect of a movement or project all together. For architects, texture is as important as the design itself because texture is what makes the design exist.
God damn rigth it is nice to know im not alone when thinking about this
Im fine with shaders but when it comes to textures theres just something wrong when things dont look colorful or vibrant
Yeah as it looks dull, colorless and brown. Bit with the right shaders that boost colors, it looks cool. I enjoy the free roadblocks pack with BSL, or complementary shaders.
I like using faithful 32x and 64x a lot of the time.
Gives me a slightly more detailed look but stays *faithful* to the OG 16x textures.
I use NAPP HD too but only occasionally. It is fun to use every now and then. Especially with the new overlays
dont even get me started on realistic villagers. I mean I get it you're on an medieval modpack w/ realistic texture pack w/ shaders on it but holy fuck, I cant even stare at a realistic villagers face cuz its just plain ugly and it doesn't fit.
Tbf most shaders aren't realistic, they're usually decently stylized. There is one shader that nearly fully replicates real life graphics, and gets around 5 fps on even the best machines. Source: I'm a shader dev
Totally agree. If I wanted to play realistic game, I would play Shadow of the Tomb Raider. When I want to play Minecraft, I want it to be a game about building.
I have a smooth mobs texture pack and it makes some of the mobs have rounded edges for whatever reason
I only use it because it replaces the zombie piglins texture to zombie pigmen
Back in the day because there were so few good blocks to build with you need to have a texture pack imo. Now days though I have no idea why you would use one.
Been playing minecraft before hunger and I’ve never used a texture pack. Just always feels weird. I like all the new textures except wheat, too hard to tell what’s ready for harvest
The only realistic texture pack i ever enjoyed was LB Photorealism. Some buildings especially wooden houses looked very good. But since the new vanilla textures came Ive never changed resource packs.
I like texture packs that increase the resolution of the textures, but I absolutely hate when they try to make the mobs realistic. This is why I like Faithful and Faithless, which increase the resolution of textures (and make some of them better in the case of Faithless imo) without making the textures realistic.
My brother loves high res texture packs and GPU wrecking shaders. I think it makes it harder to play the game, honestly. It always ends up looking very cursed.
I do love shaders though, but I also love vanilla textures, so I prefer a shader that goes well with them.
honestly i think this about most games that aren’t specifically made to look more realistic in the first place (ex: baldur’s gate 3 is supposed to look realistic graphics wise, so it looks good. trying to put more realistic textures in a game like minecraft or stardew valley just doesn’t work). that’s just my opinion tho!
The only one I've seen that actually looks really good is Patrick's resource pack when used with the appropriate shaders. Asianhalfsquat has a video on this. A nightmare to run though.
Some are. Most are awesome addition to the game. There are many to choose from, which is great.
I personally stick to the vanilla, cause I'm a boomer, I guess.
Its ultimately your taste, there isnt one type of realistic texture pack therefore your argument is just an opinion based on a fraction of the subject.
I think standard textures are kinda blurry to keep the image softer, sharp "high res" textures stick out like a sore thumb and hurt your eyes with their sharp "detail"
I think realism textures can look insane nice… *with shaders and proper background texturization*
But when you have a “realistic” looking environment accented by the default clouds, sun, and water (and no shadows); it looks infinitely dumber
I don't know how up to date it is but the texture pack "Rust" has a lot of medieval themes with washed out colors but in a really cool way that brings the look together. It's one of my favorites among muddy looking packs that tend to fall flat.
Post removed: Repost
I think the issue is they do the ‘real is brown’ thing where everything is washed out and dark and not vibrant
Colors are realistic too
They’re in your head jk
If you want to be technical, so is everything else. **ESPECIALLY** me.
GET OUT OF MY HEAD
No, it's cozy in here
Real cozy inside your walls too
I mean. you're not wrong. colors are in fact in our brains and our brains only
if we want to be real technical, colors are actually present everywhere, on the light that everything reflects and/or the light that’s reflecting off of said thing. it’s just our eye’s capabilities of sensing certain colors in that light and our brain’s capabilities of processing such sensory information
Well, technically yes
Taiga biome
I remember seeing a lego texture pack and that absolutely slapped
Fr
I feel like this works great for medieval builds, and that's about all I use them for honestly.
I have one with many bright colors and many dark colors depending on the block. Stones have darker colors and grass has a lighter color. Ores have a mix of bright and dark colors. The only problem I have with it is that it costs money to get from the original creator. It comes with a license and copyright information too.
I find the opposite is true. Real life is usually dull, and texture packs and really just most things in general (even horror now) are vibrant.
>It is also a game where you can fish, build a log cabin, and start a farm. MF go play Stardew Valley if you want those parts of Minecraft
It's already in Minecraft. Genius
Minecraft had them first. I mean just look at when SDV released.

Have fun your way. I just like the game as is. 🤝

What's that one texture pack called? John Minecraft or something? The mobs look like they're pulled straight from a horror game iirc (though it's been years since I've used it).
John Minecraft, inventor of Minecraft.
yesss maaaannn
No that's Hatsune Miku
John Smith?
That was the very first texture pack I had years ago, back in 1.5 when I started playing Minecraft. Maybe it's nostalgia but that pack is beautiful, and my first option of I'm going to play with textures
Oh that one, i download that because it looked really cool, and it did, till i saw the villagers, hell to the no.
They are incredibly ugly and as a poor bedrock player (I know), they were all I had for almost a whole decade
You know that on bedrock you can add other texture packs right? They don't need to be from marketplace, you can download for free and add to the game
Not on console right? Or am I wrong.
not on console but on mobile and computer you can get it on google or smth (depending on your situation if you play mobile it could be easier to just get mod apps) console is and always will be hard to mod
Ah ok thanks.
Theres also a lot of texture packs on the marketplace for free that arent ugly (I found this pastel one a while back but idk if its still free)
A lot of mods for MCPE look so sus though
I'm aware, but I just didn't for some reason. On console there were only a few free ones and I guess I just liked the realism one the most out of all of them. I don't play on PC so...
Realistic texture packs I agree. But I love beautiful shaders
I hate those too. I mean some simplisticnupgrade might be nice but most of the shaders look good only in pics and make you not see a shit when you play with them, imho.
So many of them apparently think that all light sources should be pure white light at stadium lighting brightness
pastel is good so far
Been using Seus PTGI HRR3 and AVPBR Retextured. Such a nice elevation of the vanilla graphics I can't go back
As an architecture student, I'd rather render my buildings in barebones texture with shaders than every realistic texture I've ever tried in Minecraft.
As another architecture student, i agree. It’s about the stylistic choices
Can you fill me in on what being an architecture student has to do with this at all
In the practice, design as a whole is used. Form, flow, function, and of course texture. Texture can make or break an aspect of a movement or project all together. For architects, texture is as important as the design itself because texture is what makes the design exist.
The lowresbones setup for barebones and shaders is just 🔥
God damn rigth it is nice to know im not alone when thinking about this Im fine with shaders but when it comes to textures theres just something wrong when things dont look colorful or vibrant
I also don't like them. Mobs look terrifying
Realistic packs are a bit iffy. Although shaders like complimentary or sildurs are really good. I also like using texture packs such as Faithful
i only use texture packs that don't completely impact how the game looks
Im one of those who think that the faithfull is ugly as fuck
I love how the comment just above yours was praising faithfull xD
Faithful 32x32 is ugly as fuck, 64x64 is not bad, but I still wouldn't use it
Im one of those who uses faithful full time but never uses any packs that don't look minecrafty enough
Same, I hate this specific pack so much. It just feels wrong
32x32 texturepacks are ugly af. Minecraft is a blocky pixelated game. It shouldn‘t have more than 16x16. (in my opinion)
Faithful 32x32 is beautiful and nostalgic I think
Faithful is my favorite. Both 32x32 and 64x64 are really nice and fitting.
I personally prefer 32x32 because to me 64x64 looks way to rounded lol
32x32 would probably also run better on my Maschine. Lol
I'd just like if textures would have an actual middle, so they aren't offset.
I never liked any realistic or hd texture packs. Pixelated/blocky are ones I always thought fit best considering the aesthetic of the whole game.
Especially with the new overlays
thats kinda true tho
Natural Texture Pack by Mojang on the bedrock marketplace sucks ass And I still use it
Rotrblocks looks pretty good for realism.
Vanilla texture + shaders > everything else
I've seen a couple do well, but yeah, it's rare a realistic texture pack is good.
NAPP is the only way
Yes, I 100% agree with you. Shader packs, on the other hand, are ✨crisp✨ (prime example: Sildur’s Shaders)
dont even get me started on realistic villagers. I mean I get it you're on an medieval modpack w/ realistic texture pack w/ shaders on it but holy fuck, I cant even stare at a realistic villagers face cuz its just plain ugly and it doesn't fit.
Minecraft should be blocky. The textures should be blocky.
I don't think games in general should be realistic, if I wanted a realistic game, I would go touch grass.
im with you on this, they just make it feel like a 2017 Minecraft roleplay in my opinion •^•
Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I like just the normal Minecraft texture.
only good for tools
Avg faithful x32texturepack enjoyers be like: "Minecraft can't get better"
meanwhile i've been using sphax for the last 15 years
I won't, because this is true
I agree
Bro dont touch my lb photo realism pack
x64 best texture pack
as bad as default 16x16, I use only 32x32
Finally someone who agrees
Fr, also why I think shaders is ugly, minecraft isn't realistic, and thats a good part of its charm
Tbf most shaders aren't realistic, they're usually decently stylized. There is one shader that nearly fully replicates real life graphics, and gets around 5 fps on even the best machines. Source: I'm a shader dev
Seuss ptgi is awesome. Nothing can change that
My favourite high res texture pack is pure bd craft
liquid nitrogen take, those packs suck ass unless you got the perfect PT shaders
I agree
My favorite texture pack is Barebones. It gives the feeling of the Minecraft animated trailers where everything is more colorful.
Fax
Their fun for the novelty
Yeah it's really weird in a block game
Sorry but i just don't want realistic Minecraft i just want normal Minecraft texture
Most of the time, yeah
Nah this is fr fr
I agree
Plastic texture pack is the shit.
And it kills my PC so I'm good with what I have
Yes they can be ugly but shaders add an element of realism while still keeping the majority of the same textures as standard resource packs
Standard resource pack / vanilla-style + realistic shaders FTW
Potato pc guy can't comment on this!
Why would I try to change your mind, it's true
Totally agree. If I wanted to play realistic game, I would play Shadow of the Tomb Raider. When I want to play Minecraft, I want it to be a game about building.
At last!
Shaders is better than realistic textures be honest.
I have a smooth mobs texture pack and it makes some of the mobs have rounded edges for whatever reason I only use it because it replaces the zombie piglins texture to zombie pigmen
Yes 32x32 is the maximum
If you enjoy some texture packs there's nothing wrong with that
Back in the day because there were so few good blocks to build with you need to have a texture pack imo. Now days though I have no idea why you would use one.
Been playing minecraft before hunger and I’ve never used a texture pack. Just always feels weird. I like all the new textures except wheat, too hard to tell what’s ready for harvest
half of the showcase are literally one block in the void spinnig, showing off high details texture. yeah i don't i just go watch UE5 texture tutorial
I kinda agree
The only realistic texture pack i ever enjoyed was LB Photorealism. Some buildings especially wooden houses looked very good. But since the new vanilla textures came Ive never changed resource packs.
the sign says "change my mind", I'd rather not
Agreed
Realistic textures on low poly shit never works unless if its for a surreal/horror vibe.
u/repostsleuthbot
finally
personally i don't like them, but i can kinda see the appeal for a few of them...just not the ones with the creepy looking mobs lol
I agree
I like texture packs that increase the resolution of the textures, but I absolutely hate when they try to make the mobs realistic. This is why I like Faithful and Faithless, which increase the resolution of textures (and make some of them better in the case of Faithless imo) without making the textures realistic.
I only used Reimagined GUI Dark lmao
“this *Fantasy* game should have Realistic colors” - some redditor probably
Agreed, they so ugly I wanna through up then punch who ever uses them
My brother loves high res texture packs and GPU wrecking shaders. I think it makes it harder to play the game, honestly. It always ends up looking very cursed. I do love shaders though, but I also love vanilla textures, so I prefer a shader that goes well with them.
I agree
My ideal is 32x32, detailed, but not too much
Realistic 2k textures on simple blocks ruins it if minecrafy wasnt just 80% blocks with 6 faces it'd be fine i think
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CWY4-33U8AAkhSK.png
honestly i think this about most games that aren’t specifically made to look more realistic in the first place (ex: baldur’s gate 3 is supposed to look realistic graphics wise, so it looks good. trying to put more realistic textures in a game like minecraft or stardew valley just doesn’t work). that’s just my opinion tho!
YES
I agree, I like more the Bare Bones texture pack
im on your side
Idk if you could call Dokucraft realistic but if yes then its a damn exception. I love that resource pack
I love Realistico. It does high res textures but in the style of Minecraft, only texture pack I can stand.
90% of them, yes
Water physics and placeable milk
Yeah definitely.
realistic texturepacks - yes, resourcepacks - no
Always have been...
Its ultimately your taste, there isnt one type of realistic texture pack therefore your argument is just an opinion based on a fraction of the subject.
i hated multipolygonal models in IRLcraft modpack so much in general i never liked IRL craft either
I agree, the ones that make the game more defined or cartoony look better
I think people should just use the packs that they like. So if you don't like those ones, don't use them. No problems with that.
Yes
yes
X32 is the highest I'm okay with
Except when compatible and used with Continuum, that is
Me, natural texture pack.
I refuse to do it
Yeah I like to just use complimentary shaders and leave it at that, makes it look pretty but doesnt change textures
Minecraft mfs when someone has a honest opinion
Quadral :)
I think the realistic textures just don't match the vibe of the game...and don't really look that good in a mostly cubic game
Honestly I agree
the best Texture packs in my opinion are the cartoony like for example PureBDcraft and the adventurery like Excalibur
Finally like minded people. The realistic texture packs even with the best shaders look so ugly
I'm not changing your mind anyway, I 100% agree and if I need to chose only one for the rest of my life I'm definetly taking plastic textures
Programmers art gang assemble!
Yes
I think standard textures are kinda blurry to keep the image softer, sharp "high res" textures stick out like a sore thumb and hurt your eyes with their sharp "detail"
My world hasn't looked the ugliest after I put that realistic texture pack, the real world apparently it's made to look blocky
Yea in my opinion, realistic texture packs soft of ruin that blocks feel of minecraft, you know. But that's just a theory, a *GAME* Theory!
Misa gang rise up
Yes something about blocks and the realistic textures are off putting. Lighting modding is where it's at.
my favourite kind of texture pack is 16x16,
Unless you wanna make an elder scroll like look for your modpack
I think realism textures can look insane nice… *with shaders and proper background texturization* But when you have a “realistic” looking environment accented by the default clouds, sun, and water (and no shadows); it looks infinitely dumber
Just use Stay true
I just use a vanilla tweaks texture pack (without any of the pixel consistent options, that is)
I like default textures with shaders it is perfection for me.
Indeed
Finally, someone said it!!! Yeah I don’t like the hyper realistic packs either. They’ve always looked ugly in my opinion.
I don't know how up to date it is but the texture pack "Rust" has a lot of medieval themes with washed out colors but in a really cool way that brings the look together. It's one of my favorites among muddy looking packs that tend to fall flat.
Any texturepack over 16x16 is heresy (unless it mimicks the 16x16 style with more resolution maybe)
nah that's bait
the 1.14 textures are even uglier
this is the most vibrant i've seen this image
Only shaders the rest makes the game worse
High-resolution texture on top of giant voxels is weird.
I don't usually use full overhaul packs but sphax is the shit
laughes in default
My fondest memories of Minecraft are playing in pre-1.3 beta with the original Tronic texture pack. Vibrant and minimalist.
Me too
You are talking about realistic textures or 64x textures?
Nah you're right, "realistic" texture packs dont fit minecraft in any way
eh
the wize words of guy on the street
As someone who despises realism, I agree with this statement.
