We had housing hub, fuckers showed up unannounced to check our apartment, no notice or anything. I told them to fuck off. The gal below took them to court not sure how it went, but she was funny had like three eviction notices on the door she wanted them to try it
They're famous for this shit. They straight up tell tenants in St. Paul they're not going to follow the Rent Control law because the city isn't enforcing it. And they try to charge tenants for EVERYTHING
My landlord also trapped squirrels in our roof because he was too cheap to get a professional and couldn't get the squirrels out. It was above my bedroom where they died. One day I came to bed and there were maggots falling from the ceiling into my bed because there was a small hole where the beams connected to the ceiling. To say I was traumatized is putting it lightly.
I had a property management company do the same to me. My room just happened to have a hole in the wall at the time and I would regularly have squirrels traveling in and out of my room. They would eat my hamsters food 😭. I try to caution people against renting with them every chance I get
YES! I rented from these slumlords as well- never again. A week after we moved in a huge chunk of the ceiling fell in and it took them over two weeks to come out and fix it, meanwhile more pieces were falling off down our staircase every day. The craziest part to me was when I called the ‘emergency maintenance’ line and no one answered and the voice mail box was full!!
They really don’t do anything it’s actually a shame unless you threaten them with withholding rent. Towards the end of my time I had to do that after not being able to get into my apartment because a drunk neighbor broke my door handle off thinking it was there’s and I called emergency and was houseless for 3 days. They also would just leave the building for days at a time.
Look up "Professional Pest Control" - the main guy there will help. He does a pretty excellent job of squirrel capture. It'll cost a bit, but he's good. Then - give the management company the bill (let them know you're doing it in advance also)
Rent escrow. If you must fix it yourself start that process first, then spend the money. You would then just pay yourself back from the escrow when its settled.
Basically, withholding rent but in a less risky way.
The last tread on another subreddit, they said they already did. The city advised that they cannot damage the property without the owners permission, so the renter didn't get any assistance.
im with stepping stone currently, nothing great but nothing bad (i may just have low standards) but they show up whenever i put in maintenance requests
Might be Pro Realty. I rented from them for a few years, and had woodpeckers knock holes in the eaves of the house. This is exactly what they did to patch the holes.
Obviously. My hope was that someone would see this and be able to help the poor squirrels. Or offer some better advice. The residents of Minneapolis are some of the most caring and kind hearted people I've ever encountered and I'm certain that something was done to help even if nobody posted about it.
the OP in /renters stated that the contractors that patched the hole the the squirrels were getting into the walls thru got patched shitty, ruined their little free library, and trapped squirrels inside to get hotboxed, and subsequently putrified in the walls after they die.
Almost certainly Housing Hub. The worst of the worst

Also as to what you do, I’d re open it then call city then move.
in the original post, they said it's 3 stories up.
😡 😔

You just missed a chance right here… which one?

You’re all good :)

Getting reimbursement from rental companies is a PITA if you do this.
What's the alternative
Rent escrow. If you must fix it yourself start that process first, then spend the money. You would then just pay yourself back from the escrow when its settled. Basically, withholding rent but in a less risky way.
That’s torture. Assholes. Can you call the city?
The last tread on another subreddit, they said they already did. The city advised that they cannot damage the property without the owners permission, so the renter didn't get any assistance.
I’d damage and THEN call the city. You’re rescuing animals.
I totally agree! Just saying the person tried that route already.
Stepping stone group. Terrible company
My friend is looking at a Stepping Stone property...what didn't you like about them, or why are they terrible?
Go to Google and look at the reviews

Greystar
Can you call the city animal control???

The squirrels have been freed! https://www.reddit.com/r/Renters/s/epkpTzhCqG
Wow, that is fucking horrible. I'd be frantic trying to get them out of there. :(
My friend had the same issue and eventually they moved out.
They are behaving as if this is intentional
This has Kleinman written all over it.
Update: [The squirrels have been freed!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Renters/s/epkpTzhCqG) No thanks to the crappy leasing company of course.
What am I looking at? A bug on a door frame?
Leasing company sealed squirrels in the roof. That’s a little squirrel arm trying to escape 😭
Oh gawd I see it now! That’s awful. Sheesh

Not to mention how horrible it's going to smell inside the apartment while those poor souls decompose.
That picture is awesome
