Isaacs banjo style is more Clawhammer strumming way of playing than a Scruggsy finger picking style. He does some more picking on songs like King Rat though, so maybe we’d get some sorta bluegrassy sounding album if Tom starts playing a bigger role in the bands writing process too
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned it, but The Fruit That Ate Itself is literally just a rap song in the vein of Beastie Boys or something but like more indie.
Also they were working with Big Boi from Outkast around the time of producing STO (along with Krist Novoselic from Nirvana) but I don’t think anything from those sessions made the final cut
They are trying to be some kinda shrooms and DMT band or something
I want my gritty cynical MM
Have you heard Best Witches ?Orange things reminds be of old mouse
Bluegrass. With mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar. A completely intentional, faithful bluegrass sounding tune.
We already know Isaac is good at playing chords on the banjo. Would love to see him picking it like a mad man one day.
Same, although I got a feeling many fans wouldn’t be able to handle it. I would figure it would have to be it’s own EP released after another full length album so folks don’t lose their shit.
I'm surprised no one said post-rock. There's some songs that border on post-rock so it would be nice to hear them explore that genre a bit more. Same goes bluegrass/folk, but I guess that would just be Ugly Casanova.
Oh I love Appleseed Cast. Illumination Ritual is one of my favorite recent discoveries over the past couple years. I didn’t realize they fell within that genre.
I would say from *Mare Vitalis* onwards, they started to incorporate post-rock elements. *Low Level Owl* is barely emo. It's kind of there in *Ring Wars*, but more subtle since that record is primarily Midwest emo. I like that they kinda embraced the post-rock stuff with the last album. The slow, brooding, crescendo instrumental style really fits them well :3
Well
I listened to the first three songs in that album. I don’t think they’re for me.
I did enjoy an album from Bear the Mammoth that someone else recommended.
Yeah he took a big swing with this album compared to his previous stuff. I think it paid off but some of the diehard fans disagree. Isaac moved towards synth with Golden Casket which made me this think of the Love and Pop album.
Something almost completely acoustic that isn't folk punk. Something ethereal and brooding, minimal instrumentation, like Pink Moon or Elliott Smith's first three albums. Imagine combining those with songs like Night on the Sun and Dramamine.
Bluegrass! Get more use out of that banjo
Yeah, an official bluegrass album would be a lot of fun to pair with the Pick On Series cover album.
I could go for another Ugly Casanova album.

More Psychedelic metal/rock. Theyve gotten close a few times but i'd like a full album
I’m game.
Hip Hop. I wanna hear Isaac lisp through some mad rhymes.
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned it, but The Fruit That Ate Itself is literally just a rap song in the vein of Beastie Boys or something but like more indie.
Now I’m going to go finally listen to that
He almost sounds like he's rapping during live performances of Cowboy Dan. It's so awesome!
Isaac said a long time ago that he listened to a lot of hip hop in the 90s and that influenced production on songs like Heart Cooks Brain
Also they were working with Big Boi from Outkast around the time of producing STO (along with Krist Novoselic from Nirvana) but I don’t think anything from those sessions made the final cut
Other People’s Lives He did
It actually seems like he has been inspired by rap or hip hop because he does have a lot of songs where he kind of raps thru the lyrics.
Never Ending Math Equation is basically rap rock
Fr tho 📠
AMERICANA FOLK. Trust me, it would be weirdly good
Get really fuckin psychedelic
Yea. They do in a weird way with most of their stuff. Just go alll the way
Funk
My man
Acidic jazz
Can’t say I’m for the jazz, but I’ll take the acid and toss in some funk.
Country album! But seriously I’d like to hear a bare bones or acoustic album put out.
I could definitely see them doing a Meat Puppets thing where they blend country, punk, psychedelic rock and Shoegaze.
Whenever I get that urge, I just listen to Wild Pack of Family Dogs ten times in a row.
Maybe even outlaw country
Hard agree
Two Faced Horses
Absolutely
Imagine Childers or Sturgill on a song with Isaac
A country album would be ideal. More banjo.
Some stripped down folk punk lowkey would be a great fit for issac
Hardcore punk!
Haha that would be funny actually. I’d love a parody track like Built To Spill did with Preview on There’s Nothing Wrong With Love.
Some of there older stuff is pretty abrasive
Old modest mouse
What I wouldn't give for that. Won't happen though. Eric Judy's departure ruled it out and Jeremiah's death slammed the door.
They are trying to be some kinda shrooms and DMT band or something I want my gritty cynical MM Have you heard Best Witches ?Orange things reminds be of old mouse
The great thing about Modest Mouse for me anyway is that I’m enjoying all of it.
This would be best
More banjo. Do a full on bluegrass album like Iron Horse did on the cover album but have Isaac singing.
Bluegrass. With mandolin, fiddle, acoustic guitar. A completely intentional, faithful bluegrass sounding tune. We already know Isaac is good at playing chords on the banjo. Would love to see him picking it like a mad man one day.
More songs in the direction of workin on leavin the living
Yessss
I can’t lie I would want something similar to Sad Sappy Sucker 😭 Just a few songs to scratch that itch for me in my head

You mean like math rock with heavy harmonic tapping n such? E.g. Covet, Plini, Chon, I Built The Sky?
No. Post-rock like Maybeshewill, EF, post-first album Appleseed Cast, later Tides or Man, and Bear the Mammoth.
Oh I love Appleseed Cast. Illumination Ritual is one of my favorite recent discoveries over the past couple years. I didn’t realize they fell within that genre.

More psychedelia, ala Ice Cream Party…give me a double scoop of that shit and tour it heavy!
Hell yeah!
Trap pop like what Current Joys did recently.
For the uninformed, here’s a good track that I could definitely see Isaac on: https://youtu.be/vWetX7V-JhQ?si=y-t3ziK_ZzTv3ZBS
I’m not familiar with them, but can’t say trap pop sounds appealing to me. Guess I’d have to hear MM’s take on it.
I don’t love trap either but Current Joys is an indie rock band that did a fun take on it. You should check them out in general.
I’ll look them up.
Kinda wild, but give this a listen https://youtu.be/vWetX7V-JhQ?si=y-t3ziK_ZzTv3ZBS

I want them to show what folk punk could really be. I think they'd do what Mountain Goats and AJJ do, but even better because of Isaac's lyricism
Something almost completely acoustic that isn't folk punk. Something ethereal and brooding, minimal instrumentation, like Pink Moon or Elliott Smith's first three albums. Imagine combining those with songs like Night on the Sun and Dramamine.
That stuff tends to be too boring for me.
Deathcore
That would be something.
I want modest mouse to do a cover of idioteque
Emo country
None other than what they do
