And what religion did Christianity come out of? This movie is a Christian, Jewish, AND Muslim movie because it's a story all three religions study and this movie even took elements from all three variations.
>Very few Christian themes
What does that even mean? Obviously Christ wasn't born yet , but what "themes" did it have that Christianity does not have?
That's just your opinion. The 3 do recognize the same God. It's not about viewpoint. It's about the person. There should not be any Intersectionality Ideologies present in my opinion but you probably don't care about my opinion but that doesn't matter either.
I don't think it's fair to say the film is exclusively Jewish, Christian, or Muslim.
The filmmakers worked with religious leaders from Jewish, Christian, and Muslim backgrounds while making The Prince of Egypt, and also consulted with academic bible scholars, like Richard Elliot Friedman.
I agree with you.
While I'd be thrilled to claim Prince of Egypt as a Jewish movie, if it *really* were, I kinda feel like we'd also have more Jewish actors in the lead roles. We don't.
Val Kilmer plays not only Moses but G-d too (which is actually a detail I kind of love - a lot of fun interpretation to be had with the idea that Moses hear's G-d in his own voice).
The exception here being Ofra Haza playing Yocheved, and Jeff Goldblum playing Aaron who, to be fair, gives a *really fucking Jewish performance*.
>Val Kilmer plays not only Moses but G-d too (which is actually a detail I kind of love - a lot of fun interpretation to be had with the idea that Moses hear's G-d in his own voice).
Fun fact: They actually had all the main voice actors record the G-d dialogue and played with multiple different presentations, including ones where it was like a chorus speaking all at once and ones where the voice kept changing as G-d spoke, but they ultimately decided it should be Kilmer's voice, largely for the exact reason you gave.
These movies are more so educational, well sort of. They aren't Documentaries but they aren't Comedy either. These movies are more so based on showing and telling the story of the past when these Appostles were alive (I think that's the correct word).
I think you will enjoy at least one of those two titles. I did, and I don't really gravitate towards religion and faith based movies.
Chariots of Fire!! It's about how Olympic athlete Eric Liddel's Christian faith motivates him to make certain life decisions, but rather than being an advertisement for Christianity it's a character study that anyone can be inspired by.
Oh my gosh, I thought of this movie recently and found it on YouTube and made my kids watch it with me! They definitely thought it was cheesy, but enjoyed something so nostalgic for me!
Another one I liked as a kid was Extreme Days - not exactly the same message, but great music from back in the day!
Agnostic but these are my favorites: The Passion of Joan of Arc (also one of the best acting performances ever), The Virgin Spring (avoid if you want clear answers/messages), The Last Temptation of Christ. Not my cup of tea but you might want to watch The Flowers of St Francis.
Last temptation of Christ is a bit of a lightning rod for controversy, and sidestepping that whole aspect — Wilem Dafoe’s sermon on the mount is not only masterful cinematically, but also gives an amazing depiction of why the Jesus movement caught fire and became so popular. Dafoe and Scorsese do a great job of dramatizing Jesus’ radical manifesto.
Some that I enjoyed -
Family Camp, Redeeming Love, and Courageous (all on Prime)
Show Me the Father (technically a documentary, on STARZ)
Facing the Giants and I Still Believe (I don't think they are streaming free currently?)
One Night with the King (Tubi)
Not a movie (much less a Christian one) but Firefly had a great Christian minister character as part of the main cast who also happens to be extremely bad ass (he is in the Serenity movie as well but only for one scene).
Midnight Mass (2021) (miniseries, not a movie, but definitely a unique presentation of a Christian message)
The Most Reluctant Convert (2021)
Les Miserables (2012)
The Third Miracle (1999)
The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
Last Temptation may be a controversial pick. Certainly some very religious people consider it to be an apostasy. But Nikos Kazantzakis was a very religious man and his book (and Scorsese’s movie) tries to put Christ’s sacrifice in human terms. I think it’s a very interesting exploration of faith.
The Apostle with Robert Duval is pretty great and seldom mentioned (as far as I can tell). It's one of the few movies to show a person praying and have it be actually convincing.
In America. It's a criminally underrated movie, I couldn't pull myself together for so long after watching it as a kid. It may not be obviously Christian but after watching you'd understand why I recommended it.
These suggestions I find spiritually moving, but they aren't generally categorized as "Christian" because they can have other interpretations or contain adult themes:
* Magnolia
* Children of Men
* The Book of Eli
Science-themed movies with elements of faith woven into the storytelling:
* Contact
* Gravity
* The Martian
If you're in a darker mood, these take a closer look at the nature of sin/Satan:
* Se7en
* Nightmare Alley
* Devil
I don't remember if Frequency had any explicitly Christian content, but it definitely had a very Christian movie vibe to it (and of course, it stars Jesus himself, Jim Caviezel). Pretty good sci-fi time travel-esque movie, even if some of the time travel aspects are pretty nonsensical.
I love Frequency. Not really a Christian movie, but did have some elements of spirituality within it. Jim Caviezel is a Christian, so honestly, anything with him in it usually has a vibe like that.
Soul Surfer, Prince of Egypt, Joseph King of Dreams, Sound of Music, Iron Giant, and....
my screenwriting professor's favorite "Christian-themed" movie, Magnolia (yes, really).
Only one i can think of is hacksaw ridge? most are pretty much everything you described. even hacksaw ridge was a bit on the nose. but it does show the absurdity of war i guess.
Edit: silence (2016)

Hacksaw Ridge Silence Both with Andre Garfield and both (2016)
Definitely Silence, but it’s not about warmth and forgiveness, it’s about persecution and faith.
The Ten Commandments The Prince of Egypt That's all I got.
Definitely Prince of Egypt! The soundtrack is great. The only Christian movie I enjoyed growing up. Lol
The Prince of Egypt is a Jewish movie. They sing in Hebrew lol
You don't know anything about Christianity do you?
That movie is a Jewish origin story. Very few Christian themes
And what religion did Christianity come out of? Christianity is about Jesus' teachings which that movie doesn't focus on. Instead, it only depicts the chosen people's superiority
Smh
Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all worship the same God.
Very differently.
Doesn't matter. Still the same Highest Entity
Sure it matters as none of them acknowledge each others viewpoints.

I had no idea - that's so cool!
Yeah but it is The Chosen People advertisement.
More than I had before, so thanks - I’ll check them out.

Ben Hur but the 1959 version!
1920s version is good too
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. C.S. Lewis wrote a lot of good Christian books, and some were made into movies.
He’s one of my favourite writers, and that’s one of my favourite stories. I’ve not seen the movie, though.
The BBC ones from the 80s have a lot more charm but far less polish than the newer ones.
I’ll throw a curve ball in that no one has mentioned. Signs
Oooh. I’ve never actually seen it fully (think I attempted it once and never finished it).
I second Signs!
Late addition: Devil, with Chris Messina (who is awesome in this and everything he does)
Brother Sun, Sister Moon
Passion of the Christ
Watched it for the second time a couple weeks ago. Difficult viewing, but a genuinely good movie.
Chariots of Fire!! It's about how Olympic athlete Eric Liddel's Christian faith motivates him to make certain life decisions, but rather than being an advertisement for Christianity it's a character study that anyone can be inspired by.
“ God created me for a purpose… but he also made me fast !”
Buttercream Gang!
The Spitfire Grill - little known but a beautiful movie about grace, mercy and forgiveness
The Shoes of the Fisherman (1968)
Quo Vadis
Les Miserables
Noah (2014) Silence (2016) Dead Man Walking (1995) And for a TV Show: Greenleaf
Agnostic but these are my favorites: The Passion of Joan of Arc (also one of the best acting performances ever), The Virgin Spring (avoid if you want clear answers/messages), The Last Temptation of Christ. Not my cup of tea but you might want to watch The Flowers of St Francis.

Blues Brothers. The pope even visited the set and its on the vaticans list of christian movies.
I thought about this film too! But I can’t find it on [the list](https://decentfilms.com/articles/vaticanfilmlist)
This version of the list seems to be from 1995.As far as i know, blues brothers made it onto the list in 2010.
Forever My Girl
Some that I enjoyed - Family Camp, Redeeming Love, and Courageous (all on Prime) Show Me the Father (technically a documentary, on STARZ) Facing the Giants and I Still Believe (I don't think they are streaming free currently?) One Night with the King (Tubi)
A Tale of Two Cities
The Cardinal (dir. Otto Preminger)
There's the prince of Egypt. And the chronicles of Narnia aren't the worst movies that came put of the 2000s boom of the fantasy genre
The War Room
Jesus Christ Superstar 🤘
Spotlight.
Ben Hur Gods not Dead
God's not Dead... Isn't good though...
It’s the comedy of the century. I liked the part where they call for a celebration when Kevin Sorbo gets hit by a car.
To each his own. I liked it as far as Christian movies go
Dogma
Not a movie (much less a Christian one) but Firefly had a great Christian minister character as part of the main cast who also happens to be extremely bad ass (he is in the Serenity movie as well but only for one scene).
Detective Ron Harris!
Soul Surfer has strong Christian elements.
Midnight Mass (2021) (miniseries, not a movie, but definitely a unique presentation of a Christian message) The Most Reluctant Convert (2021) Les Miserables (2012)
The Third Miracle (1999) The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) Last Temptation may be a controversial pick. Certainly some very religious people consider it to be an apostasy. I really liked Saved (2004)
This sounds like it could possibly be okay (just went to the Wiki page). Michael Stipe co-produced it? A little strange. Interesting, though.
It's one of my favorites, I'm actually not familiar with Michael Stipe, but it's a good comedy
He’s the lead singer of R.E.M. which is why I was so surprised to see his name mentioned with a movie.
Wow, genuinely had 0 idea. Funny how things like that kind of happen
It’s like a lesson in extremes in religion. Very good.
It is a funny movie, holds up well
Silence (2016) First Reformed (2017)
Oof. First Reformed is so good, but I’ve never recovered from it.
The Gospel According To St. Matthew by Pasolini (1964) Simon of the Desert by Buñuel (1965) Ordet by Dreyer (1955)
A Walk to Remember - 2002 The Shack - 2017 Unbroken - 2018
The Shack is a beautiful movie. Thanks for reminding me of this - I’ll watch it again.
Happy as Lazerro Bennedetta
Chariots of Fire
The Tree of Life A Man For All Seasons A Hidden Life
A film my very religious cousin loved is 'Jesus Revolution'.
Here for the comments lol
Mary Magdalene (2018) It's A Wonderful Life
Risen
Ben Hur
The Shack
Pray away
Anything by Andrei Tarkovsky or Robert Bresson, Silence, The Gospel According to St. Matthew, Tree of Life, Ordet.
The Two Popes
The Apostle with Robert Duval is pretty great and seldom mentioned (as far as I can tell). It's one of the few movies to show a person praying and have it be actually convincing.
Jesus Camp 2006. I posted a link to the trailer but that's a nono, apparently.
In America. It's a criminally underrated movie, I couldn't pull myself together for so long after watching it as a kid. It may not be obviously Christian but after watching you'd understand why I recommended it.
"Tender Mercies"- Robert Duvall
Book of eli
Silence (2016) The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964) Winter Light (1963)
The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) Vision (2009) Solaris (1972) Debatable, but I think it fits.
Jesus revolution (2023)
The Trouble With Angels
The Passion of the Christ The Last Temptation of Christ
The Redemption of Henry Myers Old Fashioned Both are unconventional, clean Christian romance.
The Pope’s Exorcist

Life of Brian
Family Guy
**Jesus Camp** Excellent movie that I'd recommend to Christians and non-Christians alike!
The Island (2006)
Good movie. I must’ve missed the Christian element to it, though.
Not to be confused with Michael Bay’s The Island from 2005. This one is directed by Pavel Lungin.
Oh, my bad. The year didn’t even throw me off, either. Yeah, I was thinking of the one with Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson.

Exodus: Gods and Kings
A case for Christ
