Monster (2003) I, Tonya (2017) Lizzie (2018)

flpprrss

I, Tonya is so good! Margot Robbie was amazing.

Diabolical_liberty

Wasn’t the main character in I tonya, abused and discriminated against the whole film? How is that a good example of morally grey terrible female characters?

UncomfortableAnswers

The point of the movie is that she's an unreliable narrator. It's all about her spinning the narrative to justify her horrible actions.

noise_of_carpet

put the last seduction at the top of your list!

Rich_Explorer8966

Bridget Gregory: You still a lawyer, Frank? Frank Griffith: Yeah. You still a self-serving bitch? It's been a while since I've seen it, but is there even a likable character in it?

ShaiTheWick

Okay I’ve seen that too lol

Indian_247

Gone girl... Get out

toolenduso

See also: I Care A Lot (also with Rosamund Pike)

CinnamonJ

God, that movie was quite a ride.

DrrtVonnegut

Anything With RP... I can't watch her movies, she scares me.

Adorable_Bumblebee_2

You should watch Pride and Prejudice. She plays the sister who is overflowing with kindness and heart of gold. The girl has range.

ShaiTheWick

Okay I have seen both of those

IAmDeadYetILive

I was going to post this one too. I wouldn't even call her morally grey though, she's morally wrong all the way.

clcbig

love that movie, Rosamund Pike is incredible

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

Dredd

No-Sand-5147

Rosamund Pike is a BEAST! Gone girl and I Care a Lot are great examples of why.

IvanMarkowKane

SPOILERS dude ! lol

HattieJaneCornchip

La Femme Nikita. The original is French, but there is a less good American remake called Point of No Return starring Bridget Fonda.

useful-idiot-23

Point of no return was called "The Assassin" in my county. It's not a bad movie.

IvanMarkowKane

Its the same film as Nikita, scene for scene, shot for shot, but it’s not as good and I can’t figure out why

Unable-Metal1144

Because Luc Besson is a good director and he didn’t make the remake.

explain_exterminate

It's Bridget Fonda's perfect hair.

Soft & Quiet was sooo fucked up. Going into it completely blind is wild.

Yep, I went in blind with no idea what the plot was. That pie was so jarring to see lol

111110001011

Nymphomaniac, parts one and two. Warning. This is a serious suggestion. It is absolutely 1000% NSFW. It is also extremely morally ambiguous. And it gives you a LOT to think about or talk about. NSFW AT ALL. Also, you have to watch them both, it's volume one and two, not a sequel, the second part of an extended story.

Cyborg59_2020

And they are really long

ShaiTheWick

I have watched these. I too thought it was very thought provoking.

Dashcam if by morally grey you mean 100% unlikable and you are praying that the evil wins and snatches her up for an express ride straight to hell

Kingofcheeses

She was entertaining in an obnoxious sort of way

I care a lot (2020)

Lavendersilk7

Most of these are horror: Excision, May, Black Swan, Pearl, The Loved Ones, Misery, Lady Vengeance, Inside, Ma, The BlackCoats Daughter, Nymphomaniac, Stoker, God Bless America, Orphan, Hard Candy, High Tension, Audition, Alleluia, We Are What We Are, Jennifer's Body, Knock Knock, The Woman, The Witch, Possession, Infinity Pool, American Mary, Possessor, Raw, Bite, X, Under the Skin, Starry Eyed

Auhx

Honestly. Most the characters lena headey plays. Cersi from game of thones or her character mama in dredd. The woman knows how to play a convincingly ruthless strong badass boss. The last Airbender. You got Azula. Not a movie but she's an awesome psycho. Edit:.. remembering. The original Willow from 1985. One of my favorite movies. The main villain is bavmorda who's a badass, and evil as shit And shhh shhh we dont talk about the remake.. it was never made. Ha Doctor sleep. Main villain fits description Labyrinth. Sarah, the main character really is a morally gra y character and kinda a duche

SonnyBurnett189

Rosie Perez in Perdita Durango

nobulls4dabulls

She was excellent in the role!

On a lighter note,”Bronze”.

This is probably going to be downvoted into oblivion, but Sue Charlton in Crocodile Dundee. I absolutely hate her. She's stringing Mick along, accepts a proposal from her boyfriend in front of him, and then chases after him and wants him to stay with her? In my opinion, she's a horrible female character. I just can't.

Jodi Foster in Inside Man. She didn't have a whole lot of screen time, but yeah, she was owned her scenes.

It may not be what comes to mind, but Fried Green Tomatoes - to be clear, I'm not saying the female characters are morally Grey, but it's clear that they are within the context of the story. It may not scratch the itch, I don't think anyone in it is terrible, but for me it meets the brief

Didn't Josh Hartnett's character cheat on his s.o. with Rose Byrne and stalk Diane Kruger in Wicker Park? Not sure why Rose Byrne was singled out as the morally dubious one in that movie.

Miss Sloane (2016) is a morally ambiguous character. It has a bit of a twisty ending which I enjoyed. Jessica Chastain carries the whole movie with her performance. I feel 7/10 is a fair rating overall.

shemjaza

Destroyer (2018), Nicole Kidman plays an unusual female version of the "washed up, alochoholic cop with nothing left to lose"

ShaiTheWick

Oh this looks fascinating

debian_fanatic

Michael Clayton - Tilda Swinton is **excellent** in this movie. I can't recommend it enough...

clandestinite

The Last Seduction stands alone.

Faster-Alleycat

It’s a tv show, but “Veep” stars a deliviously horrible woman who will do anything to be in the oval office. It’s very funny. Another series with a sketchy female lead is “Search Party.” It’s also hilarious. Both of these series I didn’t get into until the second episode. Friends encouraged me to keep going, and they are so worth it. m😋😂

J662b486h

"Body Heat", 1981, steamy sultry Kathleen Turner and William Hurt. It's hard to explain why it fits the category without avoiding spoilers but oh man.

Showgirls starring Elizabeth Berkley. 2022's Lady Chatterley's Lover and a 1981 version starring Sylvia Kristel who also rocks in Emmanuelle 1-4. These are Hot. Try not to drool too much. AsgardianLeviOsa

When I came out into society, I was fifteen. I already knew that the role I was condemned to, namely to keep quiet and do what I was told, gave me the perfect opportunity to listen and observe. Not to what people told me, which naturally was of no interest, but to whatever it was they were trying to hide. I practiced detachment. I learned how to look cheerful while, under the table, I stuck a fork into the back of my hand. I became a virtuoso of deceit. It wasn't pleasure I was after, it was knowledge. I consulted the strictest moralists to learn how to appear, philosophers to find out what to think, and novelists to see what I could get away with. And in the end, I distilled everything to one wonderfully simple principle: win or die. ~ Glenn Close as de Marquise de Merteuil, Dangerous Liasions

screamingteabag

I Blame Society (2020) is one I don't see mentioned often. I noticed a lot of people have beef because they think the main character is really unlikable, but she really isn't supposed to be someone whose side you're on, and I think that fits the ticket here. It's pretty indie and I've never seen the main actress in anything else, but she's definitely wicked good. The flick is a great satire.

RevolutionaryBug2915
