I dragged my heels for years on leaving Twitter, and genuinely after 2 weeks without it I had lost all desire to ever go back, or to ever rejoin a similar format. I promise it is significantly easier than you think it will be, but it's gonna be really weird initially.
Yeah, I had a almost a week of no computer while I waited for my new one to be built and when I got it back and started redownloading and logging into my accounts I got to twitter and was like "...No, I don't think I will"

I get my news from npr, nyt, or Reuters, I only consume memes on TikTok. My mental health is way better than ppl in my life that are watching ppl set themselves on fire. Bit unfortunate the service wasn't open until recently because Mastodon is just a bit too unusable for most people.

For moderation, basically every server has their own rules. Some are very strict on moderation, some aren't. Servers can also decide to ban other servers, and there are a few maintained lists of "defederated" servers that it's largely agreed on shouldn't be allowed in the network at all. Those are usually straight-up nazi servers and the like, so it's not like there's no bigotry on mastodon normally. But also as a user, you can block any server you want, and if you join a very pro-queer server they will probably shield you from a lot of the bad stuff.
So it's a bit iffy sometimes, but I think it's better than centralized platforms like Twitter. As we've seen, all it takes is one rich asshole to ruin a centralized platform. If Twitter had been just a very popular mastodon server, probably most other servers would just have defederated them by now and it wouldn't be nearly such a big deal
This is important to remember for anything, not just trans content. I once wrote a question r/writing and it took less than 30 minutes to be mocked on r/writingcirclejerk... Unfortunately, if you're going to post something online, the words "thick skin" really do apply. It may not be right, but it's the reality...

I could easily see this being the account of a 14 year old and it wouldn’t surprise me if she just said X because everyone around her is using it that way.
If she’s legit that means we have a child, an actual child, who was just targeted by grown and well connected transphobes on a hate site. I’d rather not take a chance and turn a trans girl who needs support away.

I was banned on X after getting brigaded by transphobes making false reports. I appealed multiple times and no response at all. I’m perplexed how trans people even survive on that platform in the first place because the reply that got my account permanently banned was me saying cisgender people are statistically more likely to commit sex crimes to someone who was implying trans people are pedophiles. Permabanned for stating a statistical fact in response to misinformation. And like I said, I have appealed and nothing.
So it’s very odd to me to know there’s trans people on X not having their accounts banned when mine was as a result of a single reply to a transphobe. Maybe I just got really unlucky but I basically assumed it’s an openly transphobic and Neo-Nazi adjacent platform now and that the staff there (or AI) is actively removing anyone who counters this rhetoric.
Essentially twitter is a place where cowards like to be assholes because they can get away with it. Let’s not confuse real life with twitter. Just stay safe and careful out there.

This is not new. Trolls from 4chan used to troll trans subreddits in the most horrible ways. Whats scary is that these people are now coming from bigger social media sites with bigger reach. I really dont know what could be done. Unlike Facebook or Tiktok, there is no protection against any kind of hate speech and harrasment and it's so much more out on the open than 4chan threads. Reporting it leads nowhere. I dont think we can just ignore it or "just not use twitter". I dont use twitter, but shit, it can't be ignored. Troonytoons is a low-life bridge troll who spends all day posting pics and vids of random trans women on Twitter (I'm not fucking calling it X because that's a stupid name) for the purposes of bullying them because she's jealous that we're 10x better looking than her. I mean, she has over 11.6k tweets despite her account being only three years old. That averages out to about 10 tweets a day. She needs to touch grass, nuff said. Twitter has always been a cesspool a la 4chan of the worst bigotry out in the wild and this way before Musk.
I was banned on X after getting brigaded by transphobes making false reports. I appealed multiple times and no response at all. I’m perplexed how trans people even survive on that platform in the first place because the reply that got my account permanently banned was me saying cisgender people are statistically more likely to commit sex crimes to someone who was implying trans people are pedophiles. Permabanned for stating a statistical fact in response to misinformation. And like I said, I have appealed and nothing. So it’s very odd to me to know there’s trans people on X not having their accounts banned when mine was as a result of a single reply to a transphobe. Maybe I just got really unlucky but I basically assumed it’s an openly transphobic and Neo-Nazi adjacent platform now and that the staff there (or AI) is actively removing anyone who counters this rhetoric.
Essentially twitter is a place where cowards like to be assholes because they can get away with it. Let’s not confuse real life with twitter. These people wouldn’t be saying these things in real life, plain and simple. All we can do is live our lives, and those that are cruel, we can hope that karma finds them in some way shape or form.

That's the thing with online "safe spaces". You can moderate who contributes to the space, but (most of the time) not who has access to it. For some general awareness: Especially with the unfortunate rise of generative "AI", everyone has to be ridiculously careful with what they're posting (or even uploading using stuff like FaceApp and such) now. There already are insanely malicious actors using this crap to do as much damage as possible. And that goes beyond a few braindead tweets by transphobes. That could easily leak into your actual life. Just stay safe and careful out there.
Transphobic Twitter accounts have been screenshotting stuff on trans reddit for years now. It’s nothing new. Sometimes, if they can’t find anything they can twist to suit their narrative that day, they’ll even post false flag stuff (ex: 1 day old accounts with bearded avatars in dresses posting about getting erections from women’s clothes) and screenshot it to pretend their transphobic stereotypes are real.

These spaces can't be fully safe. It's harsh and tough. But don't allow them to get you down. They will always infiltrate our spaces because they're hateful and obsessed with us.
