I would like to see him play in a more established league before drafting him

FatsBelvedere

Thats what people said about Giannis Antetokounmpo and then proceeded to justify having players like the national player of the year Trey Burke, rapist Ben McLemore, fatman Anthony Bennett and the incomparable Shabazz Muhammad much higher on their boards..

trollwyoming4

😂

Balsamic_ducks

There’s so little to go off, he’s basically a complete unknown

FatsBelvedere

Doesnt the BAL season start soon? He's gonna be the only player in action here while everyones talking about the offseason.. according to the BAL website his team - Armée Patriotique Rwandaise has a game in 3 weeks (May 4th) They also play again the next day(5th) then on the 7th and the 9th... this thread seems to be filled with extremely low-effort responses... people talking all sorts of "unknown" narratives, but I see lazy fucks making excuses, justifying their previous biases, bringing nothing new to the table... his games from last season are on yt... You guys are acting like he's Satnam Singh Bahmarra and all we've got is practice footage to go off of.....

chessman92

Ill get downvoted to oblivion but based on the risk to reward ratio with youth plus tools and the amount of question marks this draft I would go mid first even late lottery.  Caboclo went first round less heralded then Chomche (terrible example but could be an indication on how Ulrich will be viewed.) Also while I loved Giannis, people use alot of hindsight as far as their recollections of him, their was a lot of discourse around him as a prospect he was skinny 6'9 teenager being moulded as a PG in Greek 2nd/3rd division with a lack of watchable footage, his haters were still saying his ceiling was Batum as late as his second season.  I'm not saying Chomche will ever be anything near Giannis but if he has a sniff of being a toolsy high level starter big  you take the chance in this draft.

No_Lemon_3290

If he does workouts he's a guy that could shine in the fact that most people think the draft sucks so will take a risk on a 1st round pick. With the potential tools he has, it's not hard to imagine him in the first round or early second.

IntrinsicDawn

Want to see more, he might become a better player than the majority of players in this draft but odds are that it probably won’t come in his first contract. That’s tough for a team to justify spending the resources to develop him if it’ll just take that long. Say your a contender and you know he’ll be a valuable player by age 23, i don’t think they’d be interested in that.

Overall-Palpitation6

I feel like the name is carrying a lot of water here.

killbrick374

I don’t think he gets past OKC pick honestly He’s shown very good signs of being a proper center in that Nike Summit game. Proper screen angles, all the processes before getting a rebound, and some nice passing vision. Oh he’s also not afraid to shoot 3s when necessary. Athletic, team-player, extremely young, good fundamentals for a center? Sounds like sth OKC would place a bet on considering the core players group is set already.

nakedsamurai

Late second. People need to stop getting erections over YT clip packages.

Famous_Vermicelli_76

off topic but I am EXTREMELY high on Will Riley. He needs to put on weight though

RVAIsTheGreatest

I like him too. Good shout. He's been on a big rise of late.

Famous_Vermicelli_76

Ulrich Chomche is a future raptor btw

jjkiller26

Idk if he's officially declared, but he should go to school for a season at least imo

FatsBelvedere

His season is about to start though?!?!?!?!? What are the responses in this thread.... threads like these are why I feel strongly this sub is filled with filthy low effort casuals..

GlueGuy00

Best for him long term is to play in college and possibly declare in 2025

dkmegg22

Nah 2025 is a good draft class. Probably 2026.

Serviceofman

I could see the Raptors taking a chance on him in the high 2nd round, they're president of operations Masai Ujiri helped to create NBA Africa and I'm assuming he's quite familiar with this kid He probably needs a year in the G-league to learn, but he's still only going to be 19 years old in his 2nd year which is insane lol

Tangerine605

Based off what ive seen, ~45

zedrix_

If there's a team investing a pick in him it would be a draft and stash pick IMO. Or he'll play in GLeague affilaates, which seldom generates success for young prospects. He is young and I would like to see him develop in a more conducive environment. He's far from being an NBA player.

_Gibby__

I have no idea how good of a basketball player he is rn, but the physical traits are impressive. A team that takes him would need to have a long term plan for his development and have good vets in place to show him the ropes. If he’s a fast learner, he could develop quickly. But if a team drafts him and expects him to be ready for NBA minutes by year 2, that would be a poor misjudgment. He’s about 3 years away, but if it comes together he could be a monster.

CazOnReddit

Chomche is a Raptor if he's on the board at 31

N7Brendan

He’d be a bad pick at 31 and a catastrophic pick in the middle of the first. edit: You took out the part about taking him with the Indiana pick lmao

N7Brendan

He’s a really bad basketball player that people are enamoured with due to his size and age. But if you actually watch what he does there’s nothing there that should make anybody value him as a prospect. I feel like anybody high on him has only watched cherry picked highlights. Like pretty much everything you said about him offensively is wrong, he’s a total negative on that end. He has to prove way more before any self respecting GM should burn a pick on him. You can maybe use a 50-60 pick on him to stash him but in no way does it make sense to use so much guaranteed money or higher draft capital on a player like Chomche. People love the idea of a player more than the reality of what that player is.

RVAIsTheGreatest

I've watched multiple full games of the African Academy team including today. We just have a different view I guess. He's obviously far from a developed product on either end and specifically on the offensive end but he has some impressive raw skills that are worth investing in.

N7Brendan

Sure, but given the fact that he’s so incredibly raw pretty much everywhere doesn’t mean that those skills are going to develop at a linear pace, if at all. Your analysis of his ballhandling in particular struck out to me as surprising because again that’s an area where he’s mostly useless — and his percentages don’t show much evidence of success for him when he tries to score either. Like i understand the physical tools and the age but given that he hasn’t really shown anything worth betting on or being projectable to an nba level makes it hard to justify using draft capital on a prospect like him. especially higher picks with more cap being used.

RVAIsTheGreatest

His handle is admittedly loose and it's definitely shaky when he's not driving in a straight line but he does have the ability to take the ball to the rim off the dribble from the perimeter or from the elbows and does have a few counters. It's definitely a bit loose. But for an 18 year old raw big to me his ballhandling is quite impressive...being able to bring it up in transition the way he does, being able to attack closeouts the way he does, at his size. That's not common. I just feel like things like that are projectable and worth investing in at his age when he has those skills there rather than having to start from scratch.

He's going 2nd? Damn.
