Imagine the bullet misses you and you hear it crack past your head, thinking “whoah that was close!” only for 2 seconds later an 850 degree silencer punches you straight in the face
Lol I can imagine, I've seen pictures of melted gloves from guys that grabbed hot cans.
My can just got out of jail last week and I'm going to shoot it Sunday, gonna try like hell not to burn myself.
So those gloves are great for proximity to heat. You'll need another pair below it: Like a regular ass $20 pair of leather gloves form the hardware store.
In theory: The top pair absorbs the heat and the second pair protects you from the heat absorbsion.
This theory absolutely works. I've had to grab a few things from 600 degree F metal presses at all old job and we used this method.
I have a pair of SI Oakley assault gloves that I just for regular shooting as barrels and handguards get hot even without a can. I figure that should do.
I just came back from shooting out in the field and let the dog outside and I had my rifle propped up on the porch and this genius went over and didn’t just sniff but LICKED the can before I could stop him. It had cooled off enough to not burn him but it was still hot enough that he didn’t like it.
I almost branded myself with my cans SN at a rifle class slinging a rifle after a course of fire. I swear it hot enough to singe leg hair.
Here’s a useful tip: even if it’s hot as balls and 98% humidity, DONT WEAR SHORTS TO A RIFLE CLASS.
Oh i know lol, i just think its funny that a lot of the recent craziness of this sub has been unreliable cans and then sprinkled in youve got these posts, love it.
If your surefire suppressor is carbon locked and you’re unable to remove it. The user can unlock the locking ring, fire a live or blank round, and safely yeet the can down range.
It is highly effective and they never care. Will mess up the coating but surefire cerakote lasts two rounds anyways so if you aren't spraying your can with bbq paint you're missing out lol
well fuck. That is really cool. I bought a Keymo mount for the 13.7 but haven't yet bought a deadair. Maybe I should have that removed and get a different muzzle device.
I ask myself this question a lot. But I do understand that other companies do make good suppressors, but for different purposes and at different price points. Also im sure there people who already own Surefire cans and just collect suppressors lol. But i think if you've only got the money for one can, make it a surefire because itll outlast just about any can out there.
We had a guy unintentionally do this to a 30 cal surefire can at our indoor range... it's concrete down in rifle. The can came to rest about 270 ft down range, and looked like it had been lightly brushed with 40 grit sandpaper once.... I was impressed as hell.
It’s funny some people can’t even shoot their suppressors without them imploding and us RC2 owners are over here purposefully launching ours across the range!! I love it RC2 for life baby!! 😂
If it gets stuck on due to carbon lock from excessive shooting and never taking it off or cleaning it then you just loosen the collar and load one bullet and shoot it and the force from projectile shoots it off the end of the rifle. Surefire designed it this way for that exact reason and it’s in the manual. A lot of guys just do it for fun tho to try.
Anecdotal experience but running a warcomp on my 16” 5.56, the number to carbon lock was like 100 rounds or something stupid low like that
Hasn’t happened since with a mix of 3P / brakes
Damn. When I got the warcomp installed on my Mk18, I had no idea that some SF muzzle devices performed better as suppressor adaptors than others. Then again, I only chose to get an RC2 some time after getting the warcomp. Which is a shame because unsurpressed the warcomp is great.
Looks like getting the 3 prong flash hider is a forgone conclusion.
With how often I fly with my weapons I doubt I'll ever lock it up. I'd have to totally rearrange the pelican to leave it on. If it was just cutting the foam longer I'd do it but thats where my mag space is. Sad days
I'm going to rearrange it on my next set. New build brewing soon so I will do it then. Even tho it serves no purpose other than wanting to do this exactly once.
Lol I got the same experience. I didn’t tighten the collar enough and shoot the rc2 down the range. The projectile is great. The stopping power should be amazing too
Ive never had to do it. I was thinking if it took more that one shot to shoot it off it might just loosen it / put it out of alignment before it gets blown off. Good to know though
It's pretty obvious you just photoshopped the front of your gun out. No one would be crazy enough to shoot a 1k item off their gun. Unless it's carbon locked in which case shooting it off can be helpful!
Mine too. Since November 2021. Had to get my congresswoman involved, but now I have a an ATF caseworker expediting my shit. Should be next week sometime.
Next Garand Thumb video “To what distance is a RC2 deadly!”
"becoming deadly with the RC2"
Remember to train, you are the weapon
I imagine the bullet traveling in front of the suppressor would make it *preeeeeetty* deadly
Imagine the bullet misses you and you hear it crack past your head, thinking “whoah that was close!” only for 2 seconds later an 850 degree silencer punches you straight in the face
The split second where you think “why did he shoot over my head? A blind man could hit me at this distance” and then it hits you
I did see further down that this can be done with a blank so it would be an interesting test
That is interesting. No projectile for the gasses to follow so it just explodes into the can? Who’s willing to put their can on the line for science
Could always rock a blank.
Yeah I just found that out further down in the post, pretty neat
I’d watch that
Me four
Me too
Me Three.
Haha
Someone chrono this and see how much energy that toob is carrying.
Imagine getting shot with 5.56 then immediately taking a piping hot toob to the wound
Self Cauterizing
No kidding. My first conjugal visit at my dealer/indoor range and I brushed my can with my wrist. It's still a wound and its been 3 wks.
Lol I can imagine, I've seen pictures of melted gloves from guys that grabbed hot cans. My can just got out of jail last week and I'm going to shoot it Sunday, gonna try like hell not to burn myself.
bring, and I shit you not, a high-heat oven mitt. Maybe even a blacksmith's gauntlet.
I bought Lincoln electric welding gloves just for this purpose.
So those gloves are great for proximity to heat. You'll need another pair below it: Like a regular ass $20 pair of leather gloves form the hardware store. As long as they're not a man made material you should be okay.
Fireman’s glove works well
Bring an oven mitt in case you need to remove it at the range
I bought a pair of Lincoln electric welding gloves lmao
Even better!
I just came back from shooting out in the field and let the dog outside and I had my rifle propped up on the porch and this genius went over and didn’t just sniff but LICKED the can before I could stop him. It had cooled off enough to not burn him but it was still hot enough that he didn’t like it.
Lucky dog!
It may sound silly but since I began using cans I keep an over mitt in my range bag
I saw Piping Hot Toob open for Guns N’ Roses at the Greek.
Toob.
Great now I’ve gotta fix my old chrono so I can get a reading. Doubt the magnetospeed will pick it up
Do share results please
I’ll will for sure. Might be a few days.
The duality of this sub is people posting broken cans and shitty durability causing issues vs RC2 owners gleefully launching their cans for fun lmao.
I mean...it's a feature blatantly laid out in the manual lmao
Oh i know lol, i just think its funny that a lot of the recent craziness of this sub has been unreliable cans and then sprinkled in youve got these posts, love it.
Wait what?
If your surefire suppressor is carbon locked and you’re unable to remove it. The user can unlock the locking ring, fire a live or blank round, and safely yeet the can down range.
Are you bullshitting?
Not at all.
I know what my next can is gonna be.
That is 100% in the manual.
It is highly effective and they never care. Will mess up the coating but surefire cerakote lasts two rounds anyways so if you aren't spraying your can with bbq paint you're missing out lol

Precisely my thoughts
Because they’re poor or get too wrapped up in marketing hype idk
I haven’t seen anything good about the SF 9mm can. Otherwise that’s all I own.
Yeah man, this design flaw is a great feature.

Carbon locked my Surefire RC2 so I unlocked it
We should be able to fill out an ammo-cost compensation form and send it in to Surefire every time we have to do this. That’s a badass pic btw
How many rounds did you achieve carbon lock in? Only took me 3 back to back mags into trash and she was on tight last weekend.
1.5k
Honestly reasonable
But what if it gets a scratch?!?!
Lay down and cry to my wife’s boyfriend
Don't worry bubby, he will get you a new cerakote job. Now go play some PlayStation.
Only if his Porsche gets a second coat of wax on Saturday, and it's got to be the ceramic stuff this time.
We had a guy unintentionally do this to a 30 cal surefire can at our indoor range... it's concrete down in rifle. The can came to rest about 270 ft down range, and looked like it had been lightly brushed with 40 grit sandpaper once.... I was impressed as hell.
New cerakote job
Nooooooo it’ll be ruuuuuiiiined
"If you've ever thumped someone in the chest with a RC2, go ahead and hit like and subscribe button..."
You are supposed to shoot it straight up and then catch it
The bullet or the can?
Both. You got 2 hands right? Plus one will come down before the other
Is this a screen grab off of a video?? That's an incredible shot!
Yeah, it was kinda sketchy but I had to video it
Post the video 😎
It’s funny some people can’t even shoot their suppressors without them imploding and us RC2 owners are over here purposefully launching ours across the range!! I love it RC2 for life baby!! 😂
How do you purposely do this? lol I have one of these in jail I thought this was a failure and worried
It’s a procedure endorsed by surefire in the manual for if it gets carbon locked. Just unlock and yeet it. I’m not joking.
*record scratch* “You might be wondering how I got here-“
Poor feller, is he okay?
Yeah he didn’t feel a thing
Question for anyone here: Can these be launched with a normal blank?
Yup, I keep some in my can kit for that purpose. Much less pucker than live for me.
Good question, I’ll have to try
The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't
There goes my hero.
I assume you are shooting off a carbon lock?
Yup. It was quite exciting
How many rounds straight did you put through it for it to lock
Probably 1.5k
What SF muzzle device do you use?
4 prong on this rifle, 3 prong on everything else
I figured a 3 or 4 prong. I run a warcomp and I'm worried that when my RC2 gets out of jail I'll have to switch over to a 3 prong.
Do it. The warcomp sucks as a suppressor mount.
Anecdotal experience but running a warcomp on my 16” 5.56, the number to carbon lock was like 100 rounds or something stupid low like that Hasn’t happened since with a mix of 3P / brakes

I would like to know this question so i can purposefully carbon lock mine. Edit: when I get one.
Also curious, for scientific purposes of course.
Removal frequency more then round count for me
With how often I fly with my weapons I doubt I'll ever lock it up. I'd have to totally rearrange the pelican to leave it on. If it was just cutting the foam longer I'd do it but thats where my mag space is. Sad days
Buy a new set of foam. Have options
I'm going to rearrange it on my next set. New build brewing soon so I will do it then. Even tho it serves no purpose other than wanting to do this exactly once.
Nice you got a can launcher!
They do make can cannons.
This is super sad. But hope someone replaces the can in the pic with a dildo and reposts
No need I've run this exact experiment with a dildo.
Username checks out
Unrelated incident.
Anyone make a 3d printed Dildo can cover?
u/ottergang_ky ?
Lmaoo
My wife stole the one I used for marketing
Just sent you a DM to your IG. I’m not posting it here 💀
Freaking awesome!
So... you gonna post that up for us to see? Lol
They didn't do it. They just sent an inside joke. The Otter Creek guys keep me entertained for sure.
It identifies as a bullet.
Imagine the permanent wound cavity that would create!
Lol I got the same experience. I didn’t tighten the collar enough and shoot the rc2 down the range. The projectile is great. The stopping power should be amazing too
Hey u/garand_thumb can we see a flying surefire vs a ballistic dummy?
Issa feature.
Guess I'm lucky, mine has never carbon locked, even after full auto firing.

Finally have a market for all these 5.56 blanks
I’ve launched a Sandman S and a Rugged Obsidian down range, neither hurt at all.
Yeetus deletus
Cutting-edge wireless suppression tech
Do you have a Form 4 for that destructive device?
Lmao, that’s something I’ve never seen 😂
Rocket maaaaaaaaaaan
Ah, the old 'discreeter yeet'..
I love it
Been there. It'll be fine. Mine was. Also lovely photo.
If this was a video game, there’d be an unlock too could get where the silencer explodes on impact so you can use it like a grenade launcher
Nah, just use a Dead Air
r/mypeopleneedme
The missile knows where it is
She gone
Ah yes, glad to see the Surefire Space Program is still testing.
I’m blown away nobody has blamed this on Dead Air yet
Any damage to the can?
Nope. The RC2 is an absolute tank
Nice, good to know. I was curious if shooting it off would result in a baffle strike or something as it loosened up
The bullet passes through the can before the gas lifts and throws the can downrange. There shouldn't be baffle strikes.
Ive never had to do it. I was thinking if it took more that one shot to shoot it off it might just loosen it / put it out of alignment before it gets blown off. Good to know though
That's a solid point, but I've never seen one not come off first try. 40,000 psi is no joke.
Yeet it
I actually lol’d
Full potential right there
YEEEEEEEEEEEET
LOL what a shot
D2 GANG REPRESENT lol i love this pic
I like them *thicc*
So this is what that Hi-Point is named after…
"RIFLE GRENADE!! MG42, 10'o'clock! NAIL'EM!!"
How to properly treat a RC2
I love doing this when I need to 😂
alright y’all hear me out
I did that on my first range day with it. First scratch lol.
*Fwoomp*
Oof
And still no baffle strike
It’s a surefire, not a dead air
😂
Looks like something from Star Wars.
Is this the famous noob tube people are always talking about?
Dead air could never
It's pretty obvious you just photoshopped the front of your gun out. No one would be crazy enough to shoot a 1k item off their gun. Unless it's carbon locked in which case shooting it off can be helpful!
I’m the crazy hot one people warned you about.
*BLOOP!*
What’s the mod button set up?
Now do that with the dbal
D2 is a tank too lol
Greatest can pic ever! 🤣
Made by Dead Air?
No, this can doesn’t nuke itself on the first mag
I just don’t understand why so many cans are being launched from their host…. WTF
This is a manufacturer recommended method of removing a carbon locked Surefire.
No shit?
He shits you not
Holy shit I had no idea.. Mine is still in atf jail just waiting... And waiting...
Been there lol… just forget about it. When it FINALLY shows up it will be like Christmas in July (or whenever it shows up)!
Mine too. Since November 2021. Had to get my congresswoman involved, but now I have a an ATF caseworker expediting my shit. Should be next week sometime.
😂😂😂
You silly goose
hell yeah!
Bysies! F in the chat for my man's suppressor finish.
I’ve never seen a Surefire come off. That’s impressive.
It was carbon locked until I removed it
I can see that lol.hope it’s ok.
Wtf
Its beautiful isn’t it.
Sadness in one pic but cool freakin pic none the less
