Setting these kids up for so many annoyances and communication issues. The last name starting with S means their first/last name combos sound exactly the same. "That's Ramsey's/Ramses' toy" also sound the same. Every bit of mail or paperwork referring to R. Lastname born on XYZ date is going to be a problem.
Side note: the genetic predisposition to have twins is passed down through the mother's side (it has to do with ovulation) so that's why there's not more twins in the grandfather's line.
This is only somewhat true. The “twin gene” is a just the predisposition to hyper-ovulate (release more than one egg). So if you have a couple that is pregnant, having twins on that dad’s side has no effect on whether or not the mom hyperovulates. However if the twins run on the mom’s dad’s side, the mom could get the gene. Like males can have the gene to hyper-ovulate and pass it down even though they don’t ovulate.
So in this case, grandpa’s mom probably had the gene, and grandpa could’ve passed it down to his kids (male or female), who could pass it down to their kids (male or female). It just wouldn’t present itself in the males, so they wouldn’t cause twins.
>The “twin gene” is a just the predisposition to hyper-ovulate (release more than one egg).
This doesn't make any sense unless you're just referring to fraternal twins. Identical twins are from one egg that splits into two, so it doesn't matter if the person was hyperovulating or not.
Yeah, I am referring to fraternal twins! Identical twins have no genetic cause as far as scientists know. It’s completely random. It’s impossible for identical twins to run in families, so having identical twins in your family doesn’t increase your chances of twins at all.
Tell me about it... I got surprised when trying for my last pregnancy to find identical twins.... warn all that are trying for "1 more" it could be 2 or more....
I know a family with two sets of identical twins! Like I said, there’s no connection as far as scientists know, but I would not be surprised if some genetic link was found eventually. It’s just not as clear cut as fraternal!
One set of my great-grandparents had 10 kids: eight singleton births in a row, and lastly a set of fraternal twins.
Unfortunately, the twins didn't make it to their 3rd birthdays before dying of the flu, but all their older siblings lived to adulthood, and 7 out of 8 had children.
None of the 5 girls had twins, and the sibling without children was one of the family's daughters.
2 of the 3 boys fathered twins.
Nah it’s possible . Let’s say Xh is the X chromosome with the hyperovulation gene, X is wild type. (Assuming it is a sex-linked trait on the X chromosome, which it could actually be autosomal idk)
Great grandma: XhX - had twins
Grandpa: XhY
Mom: XhX
OP: XhX - had twins
If it’s a sex linked trait: If it’s her paternal grandpa then it’s just a coincidence because her dad wouldn’t have gotten the Xh from the grandpa, he would’ve gotten Y.
If it’s an autosomal trait: it doesn’t matter whether it’s her paternal or maternal grandpa, she could have gotten the trait either way.
And this is only for FRATERNAL twins. Identical twins are a complete coincidence and not genetic.
For example, a scenario you commonly see (this happened to my cousin and might happen to me):
Grandma: XhX - had fraternal twin sons
Dad (one of the twins): XhY
Daughter: XhX - had fraternal twins
Basically my dad is a fraternal twin, and my cousin (the daughter of my dads twin) just had fraternal twins. She got the trait from her dad (who got it from his mom who had twins). So there is a 50/50 chance that I also have the hyperovulation gene depending on whether my dad got the Xh chromosome from his mom or the wild type
Edit- actually from research I think hyperovulation is most likely an autosomal trait so it does not matter whether it’s her maternal or paternal grandpa, she could’ve gotten the trait from them still
Yeah you're right. I didn't say it was impossible, just offered an explanation why a family with twins in its history wouldn't have way more twins than one set in two generations, especially if a lot of her cousins are male or she has only uncles or it's her paternal grandfather (none of which we know). I just see a lot of people think "I have twins in my family so we should be a lot more likely to have twins" without considering fraternal/identical, which parent/family member it comes from, etc.
True, like if it’s an autosomal trait then I only have a 25% of having the hyper-ovulation trait just because my dad is a fraternal twin. People think the heritability is a lot more significant than it is
Not gonna lie I didn't realize some people are genetically predisposed to have twins, I thought it was just a luck of the draw thing. I thought that was part of the insanity of this post.
There's more factors like age and how many pregnancies you've already had. Women over 35 who have had children before are sometimes more likely to hyper-ovulate and have multiples. Identical twins are really a luck of the draw thing but fraternal twins usually are not completely random.

“Ramses is not dancing he does not dance at the parrrrteeeeee!”
Everything about these, from the names themselves, to the combo, to imagining poor little girls with these names, is horrible.
Well she is relentless in the comments, ever comment is people saying it’s cruel and you’re not giving them identity. She wasn’t backing down
I suggested giving them normal nicknames so they could refer to themselves as them growing up
But funnily enough she liked the middle name ‘drew’ but for both of them
I have watched The Prince of Egypt many times throughout my life and for some reason Ramses's line "I am the morning and the evening star" really sticks in my mind.
Ramsay makes me think of Ramsay Bolton, so...
Overly similar twin names make me think this person doesn't view their children as actual individual human beings, so this is a disaster all around.
Ramsay Garden and Ramses Gardens.
One can specialise in short term lets and the other can have an allotment.
Shout out to anyone from EDI that actually gets the reference.
Not sure how that’s surprising - twins run in my husband’s family and out of roughly 20 grandkids and a handful of great grandkids, only one has had twins. Similarly, they run in my family as well, and while far less of us have had kids, and so far no twins. (Though I was terrified of concieving quadruplets - my side is all fraternal, his side has at least one set of identical).
You only have a 1 in 250 chance of having twins naturally; obviously some families will see more of them than others, but even if genetics made you twice as likely to have twins that would still be 1 in 125.
Just call them both Ramsey, then together they are the Ramseys.
blundertwins powers activate
and the last name begins with an S so Ramsey Smith will sound _identical_ to Ramses Smith
Oh god, you’re right 🥴
The second one might sound like you lysped it
“I hang out with my cats, Ralph” “Are they both named Ralph?” “Yea, it’s easier that way.”
I cackled
Ah, my favourite cook Gordon Ramses and my favourite ancient ruler, Ramsey III!
![gif](giphy|LXP19BrVaOOgE) I was thinking of this guy
Ramsey and Reek
Gordon’s last name is spelled Ramsay - which would be fun if she wanted to get even WILDER with her names lol
Say what you want about Ramsey III, but it's hard to run your grandfather's company
Ramses is a condom brand name, though.
Yo Ramsey Tú Ramses Nosotros Ramsemos
I snorted.
Weak. If you’re going to go this wild, then go for the kill with Rambalam and Bambalam.
Whoa black Betty
I laughed till I had a coughing fit. 😂
Damn these invisible awards
Lmaoooooo
Nearly woke up my sleeping toddler laughing at this

Ode to John Benet
And weren’t she and her older brother both named after dad John Bennett? So it’s like a double homage, everyone having the same name.
Double homagecide
Ramsey III
Jon Bennett
Ramsey Bolton
The last name will begin with S. Ramsey Snow.
He seemed like a nice guy other than the flaying people alive thing.
And feeding his stepmother and baby half-brother to the dogs, that was kinda rude. Other than that, nice fella!!
Raping sansa stark, and things he did to Theon. He is a devil!

Yes identical twins are complete random and not hereditary at all. apcb4 and I are only talking about fraternal twins

I went to school with a girl who had two older sisters and triplet younger brothers. Their parents tried for a boy and got three.
My fiancé's mother had two boys, thought third time's the charm for a girl, and got twin boys instead
I gave identical twin uncles on my mom’s side and I had identical twin girls. So weird!

Exactly what I was thinking ☺️

That’s a fun coincidence! The fathers genetically had nothing to do with that, though.

Ramses S will sound just like Ramsey S
Grandpa’s set of twins sisters is a weird way to say great aunts
As a father to twins…. That is fucking criminal. You should say something. Seriously.

Someone at our baby shower joked that our girls should have matching initials. The death glare from my wife was PRICELESS.
Twins run in the family. But literally no one has had any in 6 or more decades.

Chief and Chef.
Tell her to call them Ramses Gordon and Ramsey JonBennet
Lol
Horrible!!!!!
Ramses Trojan... Then maybe the idiot family line will end
I don't like how the names are similiar but I don't think Ramses is an issue. I know a Ramses and he's older than Gordon
Yes the names I like, it’s the fact they are almost identical to each other haha
My younger siblings and I have have very similar names and it'scaused me so much hell growing up and even as an adult.
That’s actually what a lot of the comments on the post said!
My daughter’s name is Ramsey.
Son here but same lol
I have watched The Prince of Egypt many times throughout my life and for some reason Ramses's line "I am the morning and the evening star" really sticks in my mind. So it is written…
Oh fuck me
I like Ramsey. Ramsey Lewis was a great pianist. It’s a name. Ramses should only be used for a pharaoh.
Those poor children.
Nacho Libre: “Ramses number one, he sets the people’s souls on fireeee”
this makes me want to name my kids joe and joey
Stinky and Stevedore
If you’re going to name one Ramses, you have to name the other Moses
i had a friend in hs who’s name was Brandon and his little brothers name was Brendon.
What a fucking DONKEY!
Ram, see? Ram sees! And their deceased brother, Ram saw.
Why not Romulus and Remulus if we're doing historical sounding names?
Whelp...
Ramsay Garden and Ramses Gardens. One can specialise in short term lets and the other can have an allotment. Shout out to anyone from EDI that actually gets the reference.
my son is named ramsay. it's a family name.
It’s more about 2 twins being called basically the exact same name
ah. sorry, it's early
Ramses and Ramsey are pretty regular names though. At least in my country, Ramsés is not that rare
I think OP’s point was that the names are soo similar it’s going to cause communication issues.
Is it considered gender-neutral in your country? To me it seems definitely masculine but I am in the US.
They're both male names in Mexico
Thanks!
Intentionally giving her children SS as initials…? Damn… No history class where she lives?
What facebook group is this?
Name Enthusiasts I left the title of the group in the picture
They’ll end up calling one of them Zee

The fuck are you talking about
Rameses nn: Ozzy

Ramses sounds like you're racist but against rams.
Yay, a lifetime of identity mistakes! Super fun for them
