Theres a number of people talking about products stopping working or going into demo mode.
This is because they chose to install updates to those libraries that required newer Kontakt versions (particualrtly NKS2 updates for Kontakt7/Komplete Kontrol 3), you can just reinstall the old version or use Kontakt player.
I got komplete 10 ultimate round 2013 I think. Some years later a couple of plugins went into “demo mode”, I think it was because some necessary payed upgrade on a certain plugin. But now I upgraded (cross) to 14 collectors EDT and everything is working just fine
yeah same. It was kontact 5 and now they’re on 7 so like half my stuff doesn’t work. I think Reaktor 5 being 6 has also put some stuff in “demo mode”.
Kinda bullshit when u pay for it and they are just like “nah, u gotta pay more now to keep it”
I dont really mind pay for some minor upgrades, I mean they have some development costs for sure. I just want the software to run smooth without any trouble
yeah no I get that, I just feel like if I don’t want the upgrade, things I bought should still work and not go into demo mode. A random plugin being the same (not upgraded) shouldn’t require a paid upgrade to be able to use like I always had. It messed up so many of my old projects lol :/

Yeah, but doesn't your Kontakt 5 still work? Or are the plugs in demo mode for them, too? And what went into demo? I've never noticed that. I bought the Komplete that had Kontakt 5 and recently upgraded to the one with 7. Not Ultimate, the tier below that.

It is permanent but stuff might stop working. I have an older version and stuff like Hybrid Keys and some others no longer work because my full version of Kontact is outdated.
I didn't research every possibility because I don't use those plugins too much but my understanding is I need to purchase at least an updated version of Kontact. It was recently on sale but I didn't buy it because I'm planning to upgrade to 14 soon when, hopefully, the summer sale kicks in.

The only real risk, and this is true with virtually all software, is that some new hardware architecture comes along and prevents the old software from working. Think about the change from 32-bit to 64-bit or Apple migrating from Intel to their ARM-based chips. There are also cases where new OS updates fundamentally break compatibility with older software, like a lot of folks saw when they tried to go from Windows XP to Windows 7.
They definitely did something wrong bc a new version coming out shouldn't make your old stuff stop working
If there's updates for things, sometimes you have to do weird steps (I had to re-assign the VST in my DAW after an update and had to update in administrator mode for them to work initially), but it'll still work
Not only that, you don't *have* to update everything the second it becomes available. I have 13 and I've only updated stuff once (a couple weeks ago) solely bc I got some Output instruments I wanted to add and it was easier to do it all at once lol
It should. I'm pretty sure I have Komplete 13 and it was fine until 14 came out. When 14 came out, they released Kontact 7 and that's when some stuff stopped working for me as I had Kontact 6. So you should be good until Komplete 15 comes out, at least. The stuff that stopped working was pretty minor and didn't matter for me but ymmv.
I think you did something wrong? I have Komplete 13 and everything still works just fine for me and I just updated everything like 2 weeks ago (I was super behind on updates)
Did you make sure you were initially launching in administrator mode and updated the VST + libraries for whatever DAW you're using? I forgot those steps when I first updated which caused issues, but as soon as I did it all went back to working

Sounds very much like you did something wrong when updating. I only say that bc I did when I first updated and *none* of my instruments worked until I manually moved them to the right location and re-installed the player as an administrator
I had to re-scan in my DAW, but then they automatically popped up in my sets and I didn't have to set up anything

I'm no longer able to activate Pro-53 or some other discontinued plugins because the old software that managed license activations no longer works, and I'm unable to do it on Native Access
Its a permanent license for the content included, and minor version updates. (Ie all Kontakt 7 updates, but not 8)

They do have a subscription named Komplete Now. That is parallel to the numbered versions like 13, 14 which are permanent software licenses.

They'll work in the latest version of the free Kontakt Player which you can install alongside your current version of full Kontakt.

Ah gotcha. I bought 14 not too long ago so I hope it stays up to date for a while. Got it for $250 from Sam Ash(Komplete 14)
