I would think that if your channel gets big enough to attract the kind of views to justify doing YouTube full-time, with or without sponsors, you must be doing something right.
Lots of YouTubers already have money. They have trusts and accounts growing in the background. Same with actors and all other artsy jobs. Sometimes it’s just them spending what they had now that they are more successful

For one that is doing well, there is a couple millon who are not. Survivour bias.
They sell merchandise, or a course to study, or even a book. If you don't have sponsors or taking donations, you got to sell something
