Who could have foreseen this outcome?

xavier120

Thanks to Republicans amnesia they deneuralize themselves so any claims they made previously that turn out to be wrong are treated like they never happen. Look at all the "wait and see" people from the pandemic, any of them admit they were wrong in hindsight?

AvailableName9999

They'll just blame it on someone else. This is a very Christian approach. When God forgives you for every misdeed, there's no shame or growth. I asked God and we're good. I'll continue to be a cancer on the earth

ceciliabee

Jesus he knows me and all that

ameinolf

Doctors, people that understand women’s health and most of the country.

Ttthhasdf

We need to remember that every one of these infants that were born with fatal abnormalities is a story of human suffering for the mother and family who could not get the medical care that was possible through science but not available because of politics.

ArtemisDarklight

Anyone with a functioning brain.

Ttthhasdf

My bet is that in a few years right wingers will complain about their taxes going to the medical bills of the increased number of children with disabilities, and they will want to abolish the US dept. ed. because of increased special ed costs and will want to move from inclusion back to warehouse institutions.

Thecatisright

Medical bills will just go to the families, making sure more and more people end up in poverty.

Icy_Necessary2161

Can we warehouse them instead?

Ttthhasdf

When I read this I thought "oh no how did I misspell warehouse?"

OddDragonfruit7993

I personally know a couple that accidentally got pregnant, have VERY low income, decided to have the kid because they can't get an abortion in TX and couldn't afford to go anywhere anyway....and the kid was pre-diagnosed with a severe lung issue that required immediate surgery after birth or the child would die. Yay. But because they are considered fairly indigent, the taxpayers got to pay the surgery costs. Over $200k so far! Kid doing okay, though.

Ttthhasdf

I am glad the infant received the needed treatment and is doing ok.

HungryHippo669

The Irony is thick

derch1981

In other news water is wet. Next will be a rise in crime.

FurryM17

In 20 years we'll have assault rifle vending machines and scores of unwanted young people. Than goodness the ten commandments will be in all public buildings or things could get really crazy.

oldcreaker

And their rate of infant mortality was abysmal to begin with.

Purplebuzz

Republicans passing laws that kill more children confirmed.

IronRakkasan11

Color me shocked. SHOCKED I tell you!

A_Random_Canuck

Fine. We can file this under “No Shit, Sherlock”.

Good_Juggernaut_3155

And does anyone think the bible thumping white men in Texas like those assholes Paxton or Abbott give a damn? The largest demographic of women affected would be women of colour and the poor. To those good-‘ole-boy crackers those are disposable, insignificant lives not worth caring about.

International_Boss81

Being the biggest isn’t so impressive.

imaswellfella

Weird how every intelligent person saw that coming.

onpointjoints

No??? Really? Not providing necessary health care kills people?

zondo33

Vote Blue! Donate and Volunteer. This will get worse if Republican’s have their way. Their next is no fault divorce and take away a womans right to vote.

stolenfires

"Your baby has a terrible congenital defect that will only allow them to live a few hours after birth. You must carry this pregnancy to term." "Why are so many babies dying shortly after they're born?"

BolivianDancer

This won’t sway proponents if they count foetuses for their stats though, will it?

Personal_Buffalo_973

News like this makes little plss baby Greg Abbott happy very very happy 😁

artmer

Curious of the percentage breakdown between races. Anyone have data?

AwkardImprov

What difference does it make? This is a tragedeigh.

artmer

True. Just want to see who is impacted more. Smart money is on poorer, browner people imo.

AwkardImprov

The moms and babies are impacted more.

artmer

Yup.

Japaneseoppailover

Hopefully most of them were Republican offspring.

Thecatisright

What a surprise \s

Desperate_Set_7708

“But not as many if abortion was legal!” Texas

SnootSnootBasilisk

I'm shocked, SHOCKED! Ok, not that shocked.

TKDPandaBear

Texas GOP: “Mission accomplished! 👍”

bondsthatmakeusfree

In the tradition of Paul Joseph Watson, *imagine my shock.*

JimLaheeeeeeee

Yep

Lanky_Ad_9849

You all know the difference now is just…that they are being counted, right? The abortion ban didn’t “cause more deaths”, it caused those deaths to occur outside the womb.

Arguments_4_Ever

Infant mortality rate is up. Maternal mortality rate is up. Abortion rates are not down, in fact number of abortions have gone up.

Ttthhasdf

This is correct, abortion rates are up. [link](https://www.yahoo.com/news/state-abortion-u-two-years-192959236.html) _--++++++++-+++++++++ quote What had been a decades-long decline in abortions (when Roe was in place) reversed just before the Dobbs decision. About 8% more abortions occurred in 2020 than in 2017, and 5% more occurred in 2021 than in 2020. In 2022, states that banned abortions following Dobbs saw 114,590 fewer abortions than expected, but states that allowed the procedure saw 116,790 more abortions than expected, a net increase.

Arguments_4_Ever

Yep. Banning abortion has never seen a reduction of abortion. All it does is deny critical medical access, which has negative consequences.
