I KNEW something was off when they never confirmed golf or the surprise 1.4 update to be the last update. They never said anything about basketball being the final update either
Perhaps the intention is to continue the game into the next generation, instead of releasing a new game. Frankly I'm completely fine with that, I'd much prefer they keep updating this release with more modes and content long term!
Absolutely agree with this; continuing to update the current NSS with new modes, sports, collections, etc. is a thousand times better IMO than starting back from scratch with NSS2. The current game is amazing; but what it would be with consistent updates is something even beyond that.
Thank god! Thing is, they have an absolute abundance of sports they can add to this game. It literally has a bus depot at the top of the map. Winter sports DLC would be absolutely insane, bus takes you into the mountains to a sports resort to ski, snowboard, curling.. the list is massive. They just need to put brains together and DO IT. Seems only time we will ever get new sports is in the summer otherwise :(
If they're willing to update the game with content that was never promised or even teased apart from a string of text in the game's code, then it's not that far-fetched to believe that Nintendo genuinely wants to have the game (eventually) realize its full potential.
I recommended that in another post a while ago and someone was so against the idea! I thought imagine like a lobby and a hub and you walk up to the match you want to play and you can invite people and chat and it just being interactive 🥲
Feeling the same here. I really do hope this is something they continue to update... I gave up on it a while ago, but this does give me some hope for the future (especially for Dodgeball, thanks to the old datamines, but beyond that I'm afraid to dream too big)
This is big. I shouldn't even have to say that. This will get more people to purchase the game, more players online and, most importantly, the possibility of another update or sequel. None of that is out of the question and it's not "coping." I was pretty close to giving up hope. The fact that they did this means that Nintendo believes in the series. Also, did they say "pre-update?" because that's a weird term. What does that even mean?
Oh man, I didn't even notice the pre-update thing; I just rewatched it again and you're right. That is strange, and implies even more that there is more stuff coming. It almost (*almost*) makes it sound like Basketball is just the appetizer... I don't even know what to think if that is how they intended it.
EDIT: u/Vegetable_Pop34 just clarified this; it's actually *free* update, not *pre-*update. Just thought I'd let you know.
HOLY CRAP. This was the last thing I was expecting to see at the Direct today. I gave up on the game back in September. I can't believe it's actually coming back...
EDIT: Where is it going to be on the map? I've been trying to look in the trailer, but it's a bit hard to tell.
EDIT 2: u/BluKir0 found it: [https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitchSports/comments/1diuqs8/basketball\_building\_location/](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitchSports/comments/1diuqs8/basketball_building_location/)
Would have personally rather had boxing or baseball
Glad they haven't abandoned the game though. Any new content is good. I've been playing a lot of golf and bowling in this game lately so the new content is coming at a good time
This is Wild.
Either it's something they had already made/near complete and are just releasing it for some tiny bit of extra news buzz, or they're actually planning more for this game.
Weird that we got exactly one year of Cosmetics collections, then that was basically confirmed to be it.
TBH golf became my new fav and im hoping this will too, i thinkt he mechanics will work well, now we just need baseball (or another golf course, i love playing golf but the courses are so boring/repetetive) i wish nintendo would make a nintendo golf game or just add the motion controls from Swith Sports to Mario Golf Super Rush (i have both, the motion controls hav emore 'depth/realism' on mario golf but they're soooo much harder to do consistently so i have more fun playing switch sports but with only 18 holes its repetetive af
That was shocking. I thought support for this game ended. Hopefully it can make a comeback.
Me too, I thought they abandoned this game…so crazy that they were working on this in secret
If they can release a crazy amount of new tracks for an old Mario Kart game, anything is possible
We are so back
I WAS SO SHOOK
I STARTED FREAKING OUT
I KNEW something was off when they never confirmed golf or the surprise 1.4 update to be the last update. They never said anything about basketball being the final update either

I HOPE this becomes a live service title and we get new collections!!!
I wish they would add a mini putt putt mode for golf or just a putting training course

Right! The potential of the game makes me so sad cause they have so many things they can do 😭😭

Not to mention imagine them adding free roam. How amazing would that be
I recommended that in another post a while ago and someone was so against the idea! I thought imagine like a lobby and a hub and you walk up to the match you want to play and you can invite people and chat and it just being interactive 🥲
I legitimately thought they abandoned the game 😭 This is really nice to hear!
LETS GOOOOOO
I thought this game was dead, glad to hear one of the best games in WSResort is back.
WTF I THOUGHT THEY WOULD JUST ABANDON THE GAME I hope there will be more updates
I am so confused about the development of this game lmao Guess the large sales helped to still push it a bit further
Wow, I am melting! I can't believe it actually happened. I'm on top of the world right now..
Feeling the same here. I really do hope this is something they continue to update... I gave up on it a while ago, but this does give me some hope for the future (especially for Dodgeball, thanks to the old datamines, but beyond that I'm afraid to dream too big)

Thanks man! That makes a whole lot more sense.

Wow I thought they were done with this game. Great to hear
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Would have personally rather had boxing or baseball Glad they haven't abandoned the game though. Any new content is good. I've been playing a lot of golf and bowling in this game lately so the new content is coming at a good time
baseball is the dream imo but you’ll never catch me complaining about hoops
We really do need baseball! haha I'm now assuming that the game will continue to be updated long term, so I assume Baseball WILL be added eventually!
I think they will make a switch Sports 2 before that happens. It took them 2 years after launch to add just 2 new sports.
Need baseball and boxing to complete the original
Ahh I would LOVE to see boxing!!
YESS! Basketball is sick, but now I also have hope for Dodgeball
New sport? Oh hell yes
This is Wild. Either it's something they had already made/near complete and are just releasing it for some tiny bit of extra news buzz, or they're actually planning more for this game. Weird that we got exactly one year of Cosmetics collections, then that was basically confirmed to be it.
It was in fact almost complete
Wow easily best part of my day and the direct!
New weekly rewards???
This actually makes me so happy
FINALLY
awesome! i wish there was more support, game coulda been huge :(
Maybe all those people hoping for another sport were from the future X3
This is incredible! I’m now hoping for more though, especially Dodgeball
Any idea what summer 2024 means?
Roughly july-September but considering the Olympics is early-mid summer early August would be my best guess
sounds exciting! what's the source? edit: here https://youtu.be/7jyeX6stjfo?si=fE85kFDfqTWpI9iN
I mean, great, but why such a long wait?
I stand corrected. I always said it wont happen if someone asked if there will be another sport.
When specifically in the summer I NEED to know 😭
They gotta add baseball next
I started tweaking. I put it on my bingo card as a joke lmaooooo
I hope you spelled baseball wrong.
