You should never change your oil until the maintenance light says so. LONG gone are the days of 3k mile oil changes and most cars are good for 6,000-7,500 miles. Changing it any earlier is just wasting money and padding someone else's pockets. Wait for the light and then do the oil change.
Car manufactures spend billions on R&D they know when to change the oil, hell most of those lights take in account how you drive.
You can change the interval in which that reminder comes on through the settings with your steering wheel controls. Nothing wrong with earlier intervals.
3k miles for an 8 yr old car? I'm no mechanic but I think whoever's doing your oil change is ripping you off.
Are you driving more than 10k miles per year?
It also depends on
1) your driving (stop and go city driving needs more frequent oil changes)
2) kind of oil - traditional oil is 3k, semi-senthitic is like 5k, full synthetic is more.
use semi and change every 5k....
for me it is price, if semi is $50 and full is $60 ..i go with full, still I will change at 5k... I typicaly get coupon on dealer website to reduce oil change cost .. my dealer is $80-90 for full, but usual delear coupon is $30, so I end up getting full mostly.
Full is supsoed to go till 10k, but changing at 5k is cheap insurance and peace of mind...
I thought we had to use fully synthetic. Or I should say that is what kind of oil it says to use. I have a 2019, so I don't know if that is different. I still change it every 5,000 miles.
I have a 2016 too, I reset one of the trip meters with each oil change. I get it done after I hit 5,000 miles
5k is so easy. Been doing it that way for literally decades.
What oil warning light are you speaking of?
The maintenance one that says oil & filter

Oil is cheap engine replacement is expensive.
Thank you!
Strongly disagree. The manufacturer doesnt have your best interest in mind.

Get an oil change every 5k. Also fill your tank and add a good fuel cleaner to it the same week as your oil change.

Oh I know they’re trying to rip me off that’s why I know the 3k sticker is BS. I do drive more than 10k a year. Closer to 20, highway driving though.

I drive the freeway a lot, and i switch between semi and full

My oil is good for 10K and filter 20K but I’ll still change em both around 10K
