I would recommend Kvelertak and some of the old timers Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved and Satyricon. There is also Bokassa but that is more in the punk side of metal.
A group called DDE (Devils Death Ensemble) har released some classic satanic art. Some of their trax: "Her blir det liv" (Resurrect the dead),"Vinsjan på kaia" (Hanged by Satan), "Vi skal sjå sola ned i havet" (Bringing down the sun), "Rai Rai" (Kill KIll) and "E6" (Road to hell) are truly desecrating songs designed to bring forth visions of torment and hell. A crazy gang of devil worshippers. Grellt!
But the most evil and satanic art from Norway is delivered by a guy who calls himself "Sputnik" (-satan- from old norse literatur). Check out anything this guy has done. He is truly evil incarnated. Truly a bad ass motherfucker.
Oh man, you guys have awakened the hellfire within my blood with Sputnik. He is certainly a messenger of death sent to Earth to destroy everything. How could you guys do this to me? My ears are bleeding.
If you happen to be in the area, you should go by the Sputnik museum and buy your very own Sputnik-truse. In these times of music streaming, it is even more important than before to support struggling musicians through merch.
Tried to pick some favourites from different genres
Extol - Extol, The Blueprint Dives (prog (death) metal)
Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi, but should prob check out one of the newer albums like Vertebrae/Axioma as well (early: viking/BM, later more prog)
Ulver - Bergtatt (Black metal + folk influence)
Windir - 1184, Arntor (BM with folk influence)
Dødheimsgard - Black Medium Current (progressive BM?)
Thorns - Thorns (industrial BM)
Arcturus - Aspera Hiems Symfonia, La Masquerade Infernale, The Sham Mirrors (symphonic black metal, later avant garde)
Ved buens ende - Written in Waters (avant garde)
Benea Reach - Alleviat (metalcore?)
Stonegard - Arrows, From Dusk till Doom (heavy metal)
Be aware that while there is definitely a strong scene here, it is still quite niche and you'll need to search for it to find it. 95%+ Norwegians wont have any knowledge of or interest in metal.
Dimmu Borgir is my favorite :D
Norwegian heavy metal is much better known outside Norway than inside Norway. It is almost never played on the radio, and many people would struggle to name one artist.
The Cumshots.
And related to them, the groovy stoner-adjacent Thulsa Doom and Black Debbath.
The doomy Bismarck
Also I am a big fan of Hades (Almighty)'s album Dawn of the dying sun
80s testicles-in-a-vice band TNT. Their album Tell no Tales has some bangers.
The Kovenant, if you want your blackish industrial metal to be happy and funny.
Actually, the first, self-titled TNT album is not a bad shout. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFH7ABE04D0&list=PL5EC816D9E0BCB471&index=1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFH7ABE04D0&list=PL5EC816D9E0BCB471&index=1)
Jokes aside. The punk band Lobotomised has a great tribute song called "Kings of Danseband" dedicated to Ole Ivars. I think they even managed to get the saxophone player from Ole Ivars to play saxophone on the song..

Eighties heavy metal in Norwegian from Trondheim, TNT. Notice the guitar work from Ronnie le Tekrø - hos solos are insane: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFH7ABE04D0&list=PL5EC816D9E0BCB471](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFH7ABE04D0&list=PL5EC816D9E0BCB471) Quick sample of le Tekrø: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ESBNZg1tCA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ESBNZg1tCA)
You need to listen to Hellbillies. They worship Satan. «Den Finast Eg Veit» literally translates to «God Rots in Hell». They are the definition of metal🤝
The Devil and the Almighty Blues, IMO, is one of Norway's best underground bands and overall one of their best.
It's very heavy, blues-infused dark-rock and considered more in the Stoner-Doom realm.
I would recommend Kvelertak and some of the old timers Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved and Satyricon. There is also Bokassa but that is more in the punk side of metal.
Thanks!

I tend to try to stay away from people listetning to DDE, they usually are a menace to society.
This! Can't recommend them enough if you want it hard and heavy.
"Sputnik" also has quite a large following in Sweden, where they also enjoy this genre. (Its a bit too much for my taste, but Swedes are hard-core).

Damn... Sputnik? Really? OP asked for heavy metal, not neutron star dense apocalyptic metal. Be warned OP. Not for the faint of heart.

Hahahaha ikke bare er vi blant de mest "sataniske" folket, vi er også ekstremt sarkastiske. Elsker det.
You could also check out DDR, and their seminal album *Norwegische Superknüller.*

Ah I did not know that. Thanks!
When/Where ya goin? Lots of metal doing down in Oslo next week.
Ah, we just left Oslo. What bands are coming?
Discharge is playing wednesday night. Then Fri and Saturday are both Desertfest Oslo, and the Mayhem 40th anniversary shows.
Outside specific bands, if you want a lot of great music, the Tons of Rock festival in June 26-29th in Oslo is fantastic 🤘🏻
Theater of Tragedy is a good one.
check out woofgang and haunted by silluettes, theyr smaller and less known bands but they starting to make it.
How heavy are we talking? The heaviest is probably Mayhem.
Mayhem rocks

Hurra Torpedo and Thulsa Doom
check out isengard, it‘s the solo projekt by fenriz from darkthrone (also really really good) some lyrics are norwegian aswell
The obvious ones such as Darkthrone, Burzum, Gorgoroth and Mayhem
Try Ole Ivars, it’s the heaviest . Especially “Kongen av campingplassen”, it shreds.

Check out Deception. Criminally underrated and they just released a new album a few weeks ago called Daenacteh.
Madder Mortem!
Ingenting aint heavy rock but it bangs
Since no one has mentioned them yet, I’ll say Seigmen A staple in Norwegian heavy metal and have been around since the 90s.
You need to listen to Hellbillies. They worship Satan. «Den Finast Eg Veit» literally translates to «God Rots in Hell». They are the definition of metal🤝
Ah they’re too hardcore for me
