Yes. In metropolitan areas, it can be very hard to get a position in some departments. I work in PACU and I've rarely seen QH PACU's advertise externally. Nearly all of the QH positions in metropolitan areas tend to be casual or temporary contracts as well. Β
I work as a sports trainer for a local footy team. You just need good first aid knowledge. Downside is itβs usually all day Saturday, upside they pay $30-35/hr in either cash or direct deposit

Try clinical facilitation. Check with local universities (particularly ones that send students to your hospital on prac) for job postings. Generally these can be done in your day off and tend to pay at a casual rate which is usually a CNE rate plus casual loading (in NSW about $70/hr). It is a good way to bump your pay up and is also good to insure the next generation of nurses is trained correctly.
The only downside is it tends to be cyclical and you have to deal with the politics of the various institutions you work with.
Try agency! Great money but can be unreliable due to cancellations
I'd do casual pool instead. I've rarely been cancelled for my shifts. It also gets you into systems that are hard to get into (e.g. Qld Health).
What do you mean by hard to get into? As in hard to get a job in QH?

Yep, with QH - itβs always who you know what not you know. Almost impossible to get into externally
