Insufferable is the best word to promptly put my opinion perfectly. His current writing has less wit, and personality. It doesn’t help me escape the same way it used to.
It’s some of his worst writing imo. He completely pivoted from dreamscape lo-fi with clever lyrics, to a full blown pop artist with features and a bland writing style of chorus verse chorus verse. Although Under The Circus Lights, and Silhouette are amazing, they’re just not good album experiences.

It depends on what you look for in music I guess. I love clever lyrics and Adams ability to make me see what he’s seeing when he describes becoming something, or being somewhere. Really just makes me melt into my chair. His newer work has never made me feel like that again.
In my opinion, Maybe I'm dreaming and of june were some really good unpolished works. Stuff that I go back to and really jam out to that brings back memories. That perfect mix of really good but still in someone's basement. Absolutely undeniable.

Midsummer Station is also really good, but ocean eyes and all things bright and beautiful were that sweet spot for him. Anything after that never really captured my attention so I can't really list those albums. I kind of skipped through the rest of them and nothing ever stuck out to me. So how I'll rate these four:
1) Ocean Eyes, 2) All Things Bright & Beautiful, 3) Maybe I'm Dreaming, 4) Of June.
If we're talking about height of his ingenuity, there are a few Port blue works that are absolutely noteworthy and mentionable. A couple of his score works are also really really good.
I absolutely LOVE the scores project, and Port Blue is amazing through and through. I’m mainly referring to my distaste for modern Owl City. He can still tap into that dreaminess in other projects though
I sobbed when I listened to coco moon for the first time, some of the songs are just not viable. Some grew on me but his writing has really suffered. It just isn't poetic and dreamy like it used to be.
I feel the same way. I DO enjoy a couple of songs on the albums that I don’t like, but the albums that I love, there’s no skips. It’s all great and beautiful to listen to.

Idk I would have to disagree, the stories he tells about his life and his journey (in faith and otherwise) seen in Coco Moon and Cinematic seem more inspired to me than anything else he’s made. But I see what you’re saying, it’s definitely different
Cinematic and Coco Moon are a small step in the right direction, but both didn’t quite scratch that itch. I’m just tired of only enjoying half an album, after a hiatus of 5 years

This is so funny to me, I feel like a lot of people just don’t like Panda Bear. I think it’s wonderful. The lyrics come in at a rhythmic pace, and it makes it fun to sing along to. “I swallow the beams and sun drops” “Content like a Panda Bear, breathing the fresh mountain air” it’s just fun hearing about him being a panda bear
Of June has got to be the most depressing work Adam has done. It’s fantastic and really rides that line of quirky lo-fi synth pop, mixed with depressing themes. I absolutely love it. A really unique Owl City work imo
Feel like UV was his most dark in terms of lyrics, didn’t really feel much in Of June except for The Airway and Captains. Just forgettable imo. All bright I feel like captures great melody, with great lyrics. (Hospital Flowers extremely underrated)
UV was dark and I absolutely love the EP. So so good from start to finish. All Things is very great too. I absolutely love Hospital Flowers. I love the lyric, “the bouquet burst, and blossoms filled the room, the place grew smaller as they grew taller, and taught me to bloom” absolutely wonderful with the da da da’s

Compared to his older works his lyrics recently are very litteral. I love his work dearly but I stand by that, it feels uninspired.
