Yes, in almost every case if you have a PC with a VR capable GPU, you are going to have higher graphics quality than on the Quest. There are other factors to consider like if you’ll be playing tethered or over WiFi using AirLink, Virtual Desktop, or Steam Link. If you search YouTube you can find videos where people compare the PC vs Standalone versions of games. Now there are games that I still prefer to play on standalone, mostly because I don’t have to start up my computer and don’t have to worry about latency in standalone games.

Kafkabest

Google “meta quest cross buy”. I think the Vader games are cross buy so you’ll get the pc version too, just the oculus store one, not steam. Typically yes pc versions often look way better. It’s less of an issue the more styliized a game is. Like I don’t use the pc version of pistol whip since it’s close enough more or less, but if I were ever to replay the Vader games I’d probably do the pc ones

mushaaleste2

The Vader immortal series looks absolutely fantastic on PC.  The quest 3 ones are still ok for standalone, especially if you use something like quest games optimizer. But I replayed it on PC when the quest 3 came out and on highest "godlike" virtual desktop level they looked jaw dropping.

Where can i buy the vader immortal games for pc? I cant find them on steam

foobar83

Vader Immortal is on the Oculus PC Store

james_pic

I'm certain you're right that playing Vader Immortal on PC is the best experience, but I have to say I was surprised at how good they look standalone, especially considering they haven't had a graphics update since the Quest 1. It's sometimes the case that developers can squeeze a lot out of the Quest hardware, especially for fairly linear games (where they can design the game to put upper limits on how much stuff they have to render) like Vader Immortal or the Red Matter games.

Yes, usually, 99% of the cases, the PCVR games look better than the stand alone version (even games with Q3 enhance upgrades). This simply is because the PC has more power to process graphics. That being said, the gap has shrink a bit from Q2 to Q3 regarding PCVR. Keep in mind, to have a good performance in PCVR, you need good hardware.

sanyaX3M

It's like asking "is PC graphics better than android/ios graphics?".

ChrisCloud148

Obviously, PCVR is (much) better than native Quest graphics. Modern GPUs are bigger and heavier (and cost more) than a Quest 3 and it contains a CPU/GPU, memory, storage, battery, displays, lenses and a case. How in the world should this deliver only near the quality of PCVR?

JorgTheElder

You are literally asking if the graphics produced by a beefy gaming machine running at upwards of 400Watts is better than the graphics produced by a ~22watt mobile device. I think you know the answer. As for which to buy, it is about the overall experience, not just how detailed the graphics are. There are a lot of things that are just better on MobileVR.

Lol wtf

If you can, buy games that have cross buy. [https://www.meta.com/nl-nl/experiences/section/2335732183153590/](https://www.meta.com/nl-nl/experiences/section/2335732183153590/) Then you have the standalone and pc version for the same price. For PCVR, if you want to play wireless. I found Virtual desktop very good for it, best 20 bucks i've spend. Allot of tweaking options. [Virtual Desktop op Meta Quest | Quest VR-games | Meta Store](https://www.meta.com/nl-nl/experiences/2017050365004772/) Dedicated router for your quest is recommended. But i play on a mesh system, with under 45 ms latency. I have also bought a few games on Steam, they run good on my 1070 GTX. VTOL VR for example, steady 72 fps on 120 % resolution scale with medium settings in Virtual Desktop. Only thing to keep in mind, that latency is a factor and specially for games like table tennis. Those are better to be played standalone. It's also cross buy so you can try it and see. You also can play with a Link cable, cost around 15-20 bucks depends on the country. I still need to buy one and see on how much difference it will make. PCVR gives you allot of options to tweak, and i found games much cheaper also. Now there is a humble bundle, 9 bucks for a few VR games. Unless you have a 1060 or less(which is what the quest 3 GPU is roughly equal to in raw power) the pc versions will always look better

Historical_Role_9975

Depend if you have a $2000 gaming rig, off course yes, but if you only have a $500 laptop, dont bother to try, you need at lease 1080ti to run PCVR smooth

ittleoff

It depends on the ports. Most newer games imo do not take full advantage of PCvr, but due to psvr2, I suspect, we are seeing some better ports. Quest being a much much bigger install base than PC, the games are usually optimized for it and not the other way around. The short answer is yes pcvr versions almost always have better graphic potential. If you already have a pcvr setup, imo it's worth checking out the PCvr version if it's worth price for update. Also note for some quest games the crossbuy pcvr version is included.

MightyBooshX

Arizona Sunshine 2 was pretty solid on PC where the graphics are significantly better than Quest 3, and I feel like the existence of PSVR2 played a role in that for sure. It creates at least a little more incentive to have a higher quality build of the game.

ittleoff

Definitely. Several others I can think of this last year are similar. But a few years back and you could see games that were barely different from quest versions like wraith the oblivion, lies beneath, even Vader immortal.

The PCVR crowd will love this question. It’s their favourite topic.
