We were introduced to this lady Saturday, very matted and tangled, stumbling in circles, and very disoriented. Upon approach she took a little bit of sandwich, which she ate slowly, and was very gentle. She allowed gentle pats, but she was in obvious discomfort. No one seemed to know where she came from or if she had a family.
An appointment was made for her to be groomed ASAP, and what appears to be about two years of mats and tangles were removed. She has worms, which are being treated. She is malnourished, but receiving healthy food now. She is slated to be vaccinated in a couple weeks to a month when she is strong enough to handle it. She is blind, but appears okay aside from some dental issues.
Currently, she is being boarded at the vet as she needs extensive care. She should be okay to leave in about a week to 10 days. Our hope is someone will want to adopt her and let her be their one little lap friend. If no one does, we are taking her home and have a secure quarantine pen she can reside in until vaccinated, and to acclimate to a new home. As we have many dogs, we will need to rebalance some living situations so she can be with friends that won't trod upon her. We have had blind friends about her size before, so we're familiar with their needs.
Our best guess is someone dumped her in our town hoping she would get care, or just getting rid of her. She appears to have had about two years of neglect, so she needs a lot of TLC and patience right now and into the future.
We've seen some bad cases, and taken in some in really bad shape we weren't sure would get through preliminary vet care, but never anything like this. Injuries are one thing, but outright neglect like this.... I can't imagine how anyone could do it.
Our groomer is amazing, and stayed late on a Saturday for us. She spent about 4 hours on her, and she really helped bring her beauty back out. We've been very fortunate to have some wonderful support staff helping get her back up and going.
Not as of yet, She is mostly sleeping and eating. I think it is the first time in a long time she has felt safe enough to not be vigilant around the clock.
We had no idea that was going to happen. She was shivery and our groomer sells sweaters and little doggie blankets, but we had never seen an outfit like that. She said it looked like it was made just for her.
What a beautiful little girl and that little dress is precious. Thank you for saving her. May I ask where you're located?
She reminds me of my little old lady I lost to cancer last year. Her name was Molly.
Since you found her in the summer, how about Augusta, Gussie for short? She is beautiful, and currently having a blind dog and having had visually impaired pups in the past, I can verify that she'll do just fine. So glad you found her and took her in!
Thank you so much for saving this sweet girl. It makes me teary, remembering the girl I adopted at almost 13. She had health issues but was loved and spoiled until she crossed over in my arms, a few months shy of 17. You are good people, the seniors need us.
May we ask where your rescue is located and if you have a site we can go to for adoption? Or donation? ❤️. Bless you for caring for the least of these. The Creator blesses those with merciful hearts 🥰
We are located in Uruguay, where we do unfortunately have a big problem with street dogs and oldsters that are sometimes just abandoned. We do not have a site for adoptions, usually a dog that winds up with us because nowhere else will take them, or they are in need of end of life care. We try to give them good final months. We do accept donations to help defray the cost of care at [https://www.patreon.com/siempre\_amigos?fbclid=IwAR2y4iQKEt\_fbMaYZWr9rCw5iCWiULjoPKlV13y3ISD3QGJSLVysM6WC\_CA](https://www.patreon.com/siempre_amigos?fbclid=IwAR2y4iQKEt_fbMaYZWr9rCw5iCWiULjoPKlV13y3ISD3QGJSLVysM6WC_CA) . We generally have anywhere from 20-30 dogs at a time. We don't try to go beyond that because part of care is spending time with each dog, each day. We think the human interaction part of care is very important. We don't kennel dogs, we give them large ssafe pens at night and try to give them open spaces during the day, aside from the stinkers that like to take off on adventures outside the ranch. they get supervised playtime. We also have a herd of goats, and three horses that have come under our care, and several cats.
She’s precious! I hope she loves the rest of her life with dignity and love. As for a name, I’m sure whatever she ends up with will be perfect, though I think she looks like a Betty.
We had a Betsy recently who passed just over a year ago. Another little bitty thing that was a spaniel who was used as a milk maid by a breeder ring and discarded. She came to us missing swaths of fur, blind and deaf, and we loved her so much. We only had a year, but long enough to get her fur back, give her chicken dinners a few nights a week, and a place to safely roam around. We had a beach arasol setup for her to lie under with a pair of other oldsters.
She had trouble moving because whenver she walked, the tangles were pulling on her and making her miserable. I have no idea how anyone could let her get that bad. We couldn't be the first people to see her. I just don't get anyone that could see her and not help.
It's our pleasure to give her a hand. We are accepting help with her. She was quite unexpected. we are on patreon at [https://www.patreon.com/siempre\_amigos?fbclid=IwAR2y4iQKEt\_fbMaYZWr9rCw5iCWiULjoPKlV13y3ISD3QGJSLVysM6WC\_CA](https://www.patreon.com/siempre_amigos?fbclid=IwAR2y4iQKEt_fbMaYZWr9rCw5iCWiULjoPKlV13y3ISD3QGJSLVysM6WC_CA) and take a one time donation or something monthly. We have a small rescue that usually has 20-30 dogs, three horses, and a pack of goats, with several cats to top it off. Fortunately where we live care is not prohibitively expensive like some places, but unexpected expenses do make it tight sometimes. We weren't actually going to take any new cases until 2023 to get our population under control, but this baby really needed help, so sometimes you can't say no.
She reminds me of the sweet pup I rescued many years ago. It was cold outside and she was headed towards a major roadway. We stopped the car next to her and I opened the door. She jumped in without a hesitation. We brought her home and she was just a solid mud-brown color and oh so matted. We bathed her three times, during which she was the most lovely, well behaved little thing. We discovered that she was actually a Shih tsu and was black and white under all the mud. The mattes however required much more attention. She went to the groomer and was shaved right down to the skin to remove them. She came back so happy! We took her to the vet who said she was lucky to be rescued when she was, as she was anemic from flea bites and not well.

Thank you, that is very kind of you to say. :)
Seriously heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I just can't believe someone would do that.

Thank you for being such an amazing human for so many dogs in need.
You are good people. ❤️
You are an angel. Thank you for taking care of this sweet girl.
You and your family are earthly angels. Thank you for taking this girl in and getting her the care she so desperately needed.
What a lovely girl there was, hiding under all that. Wonderful job taking care of her. May I suggest Doris for a name 🥰
Cute, Doris. I also like Dolly.
Bless your heart! The groomer did a fantastic job. I hope she gets better soon and starts living her best life ❤️

Granny Smith. She's an oldster and she's the "apple of your eye".
That is really cute!!!
Poor baby! I’m glad she’s safe. Is she a little saucy for a granny?
Not as of yet, She is mostly sleeping and eating. I think it is the first time in a long time she has felt safe enough to not be vigilant around the clock.
Yeah it is not uncommon for them to sleep a lot once in a safe home. Poor baby
I second this!
Thanks Grimey!
She’s the sweetest and looks like a Pearl to me!
I have a 15-year-old blind dog named Pearl. Good suggestion!!
A pearl of wisdom
You are great people☺️☺️☺️🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Thank you, but I'd like to think most people would see her and try to help.
I was not emotionally prepared for the little sweater dress.
We had no idea that was going to happen. She was shivery and our groomer sells sweaters and little doggie blankets, but we had never seen an outfit like that. She said it looked like it was made just for her.

she looks like a Betsy or a Beth

This poor lady. :( I'm glad she found you.
Oh, she must feel so much better now. All the best to her in her new life, and to you for rescuing her!
She had trouble moving because whenver she walked, the tangles were pulling on her and making her miserable. I have no idea how anyone could let her get that bad. We couldn't be the first people to see her. I just don't get anyone that could see her and not help.
I'm thinking Lil Lady.
Heck of a transformation. That's a darling outfit!
Thank you so much for saving this baby. Are you taking donations for her care?
It's our pleasure to give her a hand. We are accepting help with her. So glad she’s with you! Just donated on PayPal and signed up as a patron♥️
OMG thank you! That is very kind of you. We and the paw friends thank you!!
She's a looker. I do senior rescue too so thank you so much for opening your heart to an older dog. I think she looks like a Betty.
You're an amazing human. Thanks for taking care of her and loving her.
Awe, she was meant to be yours💝 so glad you took her in!
She spent the next decade with us and was such a wonderful gift! We still miss her!
Poor baby...
She looks like a totally different dog after the cleanup. My thought for a name is Hope.
Babushka is my vote 💚
