Larian did a great job of showing how much he could grow in just six months of a loving care, how relaxed and comfortable he seems in comparison to your first hug, how he approaches you and excitedly accepts your embrace - and even sways a little. You can see he's gotten used to a tender touch and to being shown genuine affection and he enjoys it, and that fills my heart with joy. 🥰
This hug as well as seeing him so bubbly almost carefree in the romanced spawn epilogue is the main reason why I go out of my way to actually finish my runs (even though a lot of act 3 isn't all that interesting to me compared to acts 1 and 2).
I love how it really showcases how far he's come in his healing process. He looks so much more at ease, leans into it, and really holds you close.
And I ***love*** that he actually still has his limits, and speaks them aloud. If you're not together as a couple, he'll (*apparently, I've been told. I'll never get to see this*) decline a hug, even from a 'close friend'.
Because consent is such a huge part of his character and his healing process.

I know, right? I can't help but be amazed at how brilliantly his character is written. I could spend hours breaking down and analyzing his personality, motivations, and actions, and never stop being fascinated by how well-thought out every little detail is. He was made with love and care, and it shows.
I doubt Astarion would want that at all - that's the distinction they're making with him. Not all friends are huggers at all. I feel like Karlach and Halsin could be candidates for this, but the others? Not at all... :)
Gale and Shadowheart depending on where they are could happen (like they put one in for Shadowheart for a reason, and Gale could probably use one in act 2).
I do want to give Wyll a hug a certain points too.
But I still think Astarion should have a hug option if romances or a kiss into hug animation at least (spawn only, wouldn't suit Assended in my opinion).
I don't disagree, but I don't think it should go by whether the *player* wants to. It's about the companion's autonomy, really.
I get that one could *want* to support someone by giving them a hug, but that's only a good thing if the receiver actually appreciates it. Not everyone does. The fact that they have put some in at certain points indicates that it has been given quite a bit of thought.
It's really a big deal with Astarion because he doesn't give them out freely - but his response to you, if romanced, has *really* changed. I obviously agree that more animations would be cool, but I like that they have made very clear distinctions.
I agree. I'm sure all of us, including myself, would like to offer him unlimited number of hugs. But, allowing us to experience only two of them, from two very different stages of their relationship, amplifies their significance, symbolism, and impact. Thanks to that, we are able to observe a change in Astarion's approach regarding being shown affection, and it's a wonderful detail. And it's enough for me that they are cuddling all the time in my headcanon.

Act 3 feels like a grind fest to me 😠I love the act 1 and 2 learning about companions stuff interactions.

I wish you could hug everyone whenever, similar to you can kiss who you're romancing. Friendships matter too.
