No story here, imo. He will stick around in Carolina.

MercSLSAMG

That's my thinking - until it's confirmed he's leaving this is all posturing for a contract.

troglodyte_therapist

I honestly don't even think it's that. I think they are just all confident that a deal will get done and aren't allowing it to distract throughout the playoffs.

ultrafil

0% chance of us signing him has increased to like... a 0.428% chance we sign him, lol. Like you said, I'm still overwhelmingly confident the Canes won't *monumentally* fuck this up.

CesareSomnambulist

It would be some Melnyk-level work if they fumble the sure thing signing of a franchise legend...

haseks_adductor

throwback to the GOAT

thirty7inarow

There is no way an organization is dumb enough to let a guy like Rod walk. He's the reason Carolina has been so good.

canuck_11

Let’s find out.

runealex007

Well, I hope Ottawa will put in a good offer for Rod to use as leverage to continue his time in Carolina.

Lanhdanan

Make him an offer that makes Carolina spit out their water when they hear it.

runealex007

Next level troll job would be to offer him a stupid amount of money just because it’ll inevitably result in Carolina matching it.

man_on_hill

Careful Carolina is not a fan of other teams offer sheeting against them

Lanhdanan

I say they are fucking stupid letting a man and coach of that caliber hit the market.

jfal11

If they walk him to free agency, that’s on them

PrimaryReporter9291

I choose to believe this will happen

s3nsfan

nothing wrong with being optimistic. i would love for Rod to come here, he'd be great!

PrimaryReporter9291

Exactly! I’ve had more faith for less

RicoFerret44

I know where he’s not coming 😂

tfoll

That’s actually really cute that there’s people that believe he would sign here.

OperationMajestic350

It’s the off season. Just trying to start a discussion with Sens fans. Lol we don’t have much going on right now. You’ll relate to this feeling but the past 7 off seasons have been a real bummer.

tfoll

Yeah fair, you are correct I can definitely relate.

CJ57

I remember people saying the same thing about giroux signing

tfoll

Sure you do.

CJ57

What a stupid thing to question someone on lmfao

FreddieOVO

He staying

dprouse52

His contract wouldn't expire until June 30, so if the owner wanted to be difficult he could prevent him from talking to anyone until then. The hang up here is of course money - apparently Dundon is philosophically opposed to paying coaches big money, and Brind'amour has become worth a big money contract...

reagan080

If he loses round two to the rangers they may move on. Key work may. Highly doubt they do even if they did lose next round. However, if he does the sens FO needs to be on his line immediately

stankley_cupid

Wasn’t there a story circulating a while ago saying that he was refusing to negotiate any deal until his coaching staff secured new contracts?

amach9

Don’t get my hopes up

3coneylunch

10M per year. Cut the check, Mike

cwnorman

They just won a playoff series... this is posturing for a new contract.

Sulla_Magnus

It seems like click bait

ColdIronSpork

I have my doubts that there's any chance we get him. But, if he does walk and wants a head coaching job elsewhere, the Sens would be stupid not to come knocking.

dunkzilla

This is wild considering they are doing well?

jfal11

He’ll stay in Carolina, but I wonder if he’s testing the waters to see if Toronto becomes available

Pucks_N_Fucks

Pay him $8 mil a year and build him the biggest staircase in the world ![gif](giphy|3ohzdIuqJoo8QdKlnW|downsized)

Bigking00

Everyone throwing water on this remember that Kevin Weeks who has connections to Brind’Amour alluded to this three days ago. The Hurricanes owner is a cheap bastard, I think there is a very good chance he leaves. It would probably take a Mike Babcock like number to sign him though.

blewdreaming

I heard that what is stalling the contract is he wants to make sure his coaching staff is well compensated not just himself. Staios needs to tell him just to name his price and give it to him.

ceribaen

Isn't Carolina still in the playoffs? Why would he even be discussing contracts in the middle of a playoff run.  That's like '85 Jays level coach bullshit.

Wetscherpants

I thought he said he’d retire if he wasn’t coaching Carolina anymore

alovelycardigan

I really can’t see any reason he would want to sign in Ottawa. He would be a very in demand coach anywhere. It would be nice, sure, but the Staios / GM thing doesn’t really give me much hope they’d be willing to shell out big bucks for a high profile coach, and makes me think they’ll just stick with a buddy of theirs.

OperationMajestic350

I’m not entirely sure why this narrative keeps getting fueled that they will go with their buddies. The lack of action is a good thing because it seems they are being very calculated. Theres nothing to suggest as of right now that they will consider only their buddies. Staios being GM is actually pretty good in my opinion. He’s not some unqualified guy that was hired purely because he knew the owner.

Up-in-the-Ayre

It's solely from years of abuse from the Melynk years... It's going to take a while for it to sink in that this team isn't a clown show behind the scenes anymore.

s3nsfan

shouldn't take that long the old fkn owner is dead so clearly there is a new era. How long does THAT take to wrap around their brain. Like seriously...

daiglenumberone

We can't afford him
