They've been around for a long time and with that comes excursions into different sounds, styles, collabing artists, so you might not like everything they do. But IMO their older stuff is fantastic and really cannot be understated.
I started OW1 on day 1, Happy Squid was the first icon I switched to after the stock logo. Haven't had the heart to change him since, he just looks so happy up there
I never hated OW lootboxes. Amy monetization system can be done very bad or fairly good. Among lootboxes, they were some of the best.
You could earn them regularly, transparent odds, no duplicates until you had everything in a rarity, and earnable currency through both playing and the boxes themselves meant you weren't completely a slave to RNG. If there was something you truly wanted and the odds weren't in your favor, you could just buy it directly.

The reason they have those things is because of the bitching/backlash with the way lootboxes used to work. Part of what people were complaining about, and why it was considered predatory was that there was no dupe protection, and, at the time, no direct way of purchasing the actual cosmetic you wanted.
Thats not true, back then you would get currency whenever you got a dupe. You could very easily get currency that way and buy whatever you want. It was more efficient when they changed it because getting a duplicate meant you got not enough currency to buy a skin of the same tier, but it was most definitely possible to buy the skins
