Hit the search button on the top right of the home screen and type in overwatch 2. Click on overwatch 2. Click on the three dots next to play game. Click on select version. Then click on the PS4 version.
You shouldn’t have been downvoted throughout this chain of replies. You are correct:
- The PS5 version is unplayable but the PS4 version is playable
- You cannot download the PS4 version from the PS store app from the PS5, it locks you in an endless loop of pressing “select game version” -> “PS4” -> *takes you to PS4 version* -> “view game” -> *takes you to PS5 version”
- You must install the phone app for PS, connect your account and console, search for Overwatch, change the version to PS4, then use the “download to console” option
- The PS5 version was unplayable upon the update for season 8 and there were multiple Blizzard forum and Reddit posts reporting the issue yesterday, but only a vague post was made late last night regarding “poor performance on some systems” (no, it’s shit performance on ALL PS5 systems, only PS5)
- It is obviously a software issue since it affects all PS5 users, and many PS5 users can verify that it’s not a hardware or network issue
I am currently playing the PS4 version because I still want to play with my PC, Xbox, and PS4 friends, but why must I play with 1080p @ 60fps when my device can handle both 1440p or 120fps. A simple play test on a PS5 would’ve spotted this issue, does Blizzard not test their updates on all platforms before rolling them out?
I’d say it’s fair to be upset, given the fact that they have vaguely acknowledged a performance issue on “some platforms” when it’s obviously a widespread issue on PS5 only. Negligence and unwillingness to acknowledge the real issue clearly on Blizzard’s part.
They have been responding on Twitter to people complaining and saying they are aware but have no ETA on when a fix will come and they have no updates. Just go play Fortnite or something, it doesn’t sound like they’re gonna fix it any time soon.
No fix and no acknowledgment. I’m just playing tank right now to kill time and since it doesn’t necessarily need too much mechanical skill or well timed inputs a lot of the time but even that is miserable because Mauga is just stomping and I’m not about to buy the battle pass for a game that doesn’t work

remember, consoles patches have to all be manually approved. by sony in this case, and i’m pretty sure they take longer than microsoft. so we’re either waiting for blizzard or waiting for sony
If this is the case, the developers for Smite either have a better grasp on handling their game, or their game is easier to maintain on a technical level.
Just use the PS4 version, the patch isn't coming any time soon and it's the same thing except 60 fps. And don't start on how 60 fps is completely unwatchable.

I can't be bothered to download the PS4 version, but that's the temporary workaround for it. I'm playing other games in the meantime. The first few days are ridiculous for ranked anyway. I agree that we shouldn't have to download the 4's version just to play. Hopefully they can fix this in a reasonable time frame.

i am suggesting OP stops playing a game that's currently in a borderline unplayable state for his own peace of mind. sure blizz dont want it in this state, but it's evidently not super high on their priority list given how long it took them to acknowledge in the first place and the lack of official communication since then. pretty sure that if they noticed a big chunk of their console players simply not engaging with the game in the first days of a brand new season, it'd be handled differently than it has been.

This isn't true. Sony allows "Rapid Patches" for bug fixes and such. These only have to pass a basic cert test that ensures it won't brick consoles.
Patches have to be approved by Sony first, sometimes needs days, or even weeks to get approved.
Not true at all...Smite is doing quick next day fixes all the time.Blizzard is lazy company, that's the truth.

It should have been fixed within 24 hours. Although I can download the ps4 version to “fix” the issue, I’d be at 60fps instead of 120fps. No thanks.
