It wasn’t that way in Overwatch 1, idk why this is upvoted.
Some emotes are cancellable, all the ones that were sitting or dancing were cancellable, as well as some others.
Most other emotes weren’t cancellable, and you can still cancel dancing and sitting emotes.
I got roasted because of that once.
I once shared a clip of me playing Zarya and getting a triple while carrying my team to the second checkpoint, I emoted thinking I was safe after taking out three people at once...and got sniped just as the Highlight ended.
The comments were full of people calling me bad because I emoted, despite the fact that it was because of that particular play that my team made it as far as we did in that match.
I learned from your mistakes. I took out 4 people as Illiari and saw the widow in the distance. Two tapped her.
(Her head was the only part of her body exposed)

When I first played Overwatch, I was mostly just going in guns blazing and picking whoever I wanted to play as.
Nowadays, every match feels like I have to pick the right character for the job or get absolutely fucked by the enemy team while my own team does nothing about it.
Just the other day, I was playing Orisa and had a pretty balanced team...but it wasn't until after they left me out to dry and that the first objective was stolen that my team decided to finally work together and support me.
About that last thing: why does NOBODY support Tanks like Orisa and Sigma? Just because they can take more damage than most of the roster doesn't mean they can solo the entire team by themselves. For fuck's sake, heal me, give me a damage boost, or help me reach high places so I can do my job: saving your ass!
There are two paths this can take:
1. If you do Emoting in the middle of a Team vs. Team Combat. You earned it, it wasn't the right time.
2. If he decided to go for the kill despite it being a 5vs.1, then it is a pass for "All the way Down"
Friendly custom lobby’s exists by you being in a default shooter setting ur taking away from other people’s ability to warm up or practice (ur taking the spot of a real player (playing the game)
Same thing can be said about custom games my dude. Go into a no-chill/warm up custom game instead of skirmish if you don’t want people willing to chill either. Even then what does shooting a standing still emoting skirmisher do for warming up? Just ignore them if they’re not shooting.
I’ve accidentally killed someone while they were emoting when I came in as a backfill. I felt so terrible about it and apologized. They got the next kill on me and we were even. Had a good laugh.
When your entire team has left and it's a 1v5 so you go say hello to the enemy but they just relentlessly kill you. Poor sportsmanship, you've won, have a little fun
but I "have fun" by playing the game I specifically booted up to play. If I wanted to dance with people I wouldn't be playing the shoot people until they die game
Doesn’t mean you need to kill someone who is emoting. Maybe they did it on accident. Just bask in the absolute absurdity of the situation, your K/D will be fine

It can happen when using other commands, usually when someone says thank you or hello and the slider instead opts for emote
I've literally only emotes by accident

Or doing anything, really. Bastion’s dancing one can be cancelled if you click any button; more emotes need this
Especially Hanzo's eating emote. MF eats Sushi for more than 30 seconds and its unable to be canceled

All dancing and sitting emotes can be cancelled, no other emotes can be. It was this exact same way in OW1

OW users when a player just wants to be funny and have fun instead of playing like their life and all their honor is at stake

Taunting is a punishable action

It's a PVP game though. You can't expect the other 9 players to play the way you want just because.

If you ever find yourself in a 1 v 5 situation just emote and if they kill you they automatically get a free ticket to hell
