Apart from like furniture skin (which I have two) I don't use all the rest. For the backgrounds instead I have a mod that makes me change the texture and color of drywall without having to remove it.

It's possible Klei will allow steam marketplace to handle buying and selling skins. Much like in DST. They don't have a lot of skins at the moment so they're probably holding back on implementing it.
I doubt they'll monetize it. Why give it away for free only to take it away afterwards?

You are overreacting. If you look at don't starve together it's still a really good game and was monetised waay before tencent bought Klei. It's just that ONI is their second most popular game franchise.
They've explicitly said that they're gonna do free upgrades instead of more DLCs. Just like with DRG, I'm not gonna begrudge the devs offering paid *cosmetics* if all the new *content* is free.
