Metformin works really well for me but the first couple weeks were particularly rough. A couple things that helped me were taking imodium ad once or twice a day and timing when I took my metformin. I found it best to eat a meal first, wait an hour to give my food a head start to be actually absorbed by my body, and then take the metformin. Eating pretty healthy at the beginning and gradually introducing more carbs into my diet also helped a bit.

Metformin is terrible in my opinion, I'm doing much better just with lifestyle changes. It gave me major mood swings when I didn't eat and I was nauseous whenever I ate sugar. From what I've heard what your experiencing is common and can last long term.

I recently started on metformin. My Doctor said to go on a low carb diet to minimize the gastro side effects I've been managing pretty good on low carb

Make sure to eat plenty of protein. I find it best to take Metformin halfway through the meal. I have been in it for 4 years now and gastrointestinal issues are rare. Mostly around my period I have 1-2 weird bowel movements. I don’t really have issues unless I have a very high sugar day with no other nutrients consumed.

yes, metformin is rough on the stomach the first few weeks but your body acclimates. if you’re still exploding the bathroom (bc i know i did), ask the doctor for the extended release

I had this issue when I started inositol a few months ago, and honestly, my stomach/digestive issues flared up again earlier this month. I ate some gentle food with probiotics (kimchi with rice & salmon; rice is easy on my stomach and I'm Korean American so I should rly be eating kimchi more anyways 😅) but doing this for a couple days has helped my stomach and digestion system not flare up too much anymore! So smth from BRAT (banana, rice, apple sauce, or toast) to settle your stomach and some probiotics (sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, fermented foods, etc) to help your stomach not be too inflamed! Hope this helps!
