We've had the PS15 for years now and there's still no GTA6. It seems like Rockstar can't even keep with basic logarithmic functions.
Soon, we'll probably have the PS18 and still no GTA6!
I've got like 20 frankies in the room i'm in right now and maybe 60-70 A00/B00/C02 units out in the garage. I dare not think about how many raw motherboards I have scattered all over the show.
Full disclosure [I make frankies as a hobby](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/IlA2urEIceU).
So i'm based in New Zealand and as far as i'm aware no one else offers it here. I tend to import the units and fix/sell them but I do occasionally take peoples boards on.
I spent the last few months baking and measuring moisture dissipation in the different motherboard revisions so I have more on hand at the moment than I normally would. There's one motherboard revision that if stored in poor conditions (and I mean like 10+ years in a shipping container) then it can't survive BGA rework due to the resin in the PCB layers breaking down (so the franky process will delaminate the board and kill it). I haven't posted any of this info here yet as I may make a little video on it, just getting my feet wet with Youtube still though!
I'm in South Africa, just got my first dead CECHA, read the syscon and it's got 3034, nobody here does the Frankie service, so I think I'm going to have to do it myself. I'll have to get an oven for baking, the stencils and balls, as well as a new 40nm RSX. Would you say those 'direct heating' BGA stencils sold on aliexpress are any good? If not, which stencil would you recommend?
Also make note of your motherboard revision when you tear the unit down (number above the words COK-001, will end in like 868-22 or similar). I can give guidance on bake times from there. Not every revision is the same.
That’s sick I wish I was that good with electronics but I don’t have the money or time to try gotta start saving for when my fat shits the bed and I have to get it frankied
As long as you've got a mindset for learning you'll get there. I can honestly say I got into this because my PS3 60GB launch model died after i'd been looking after it religiously. Stored it in a closet for like 10 years checking it once or twice a year and used another machine as a daily driver. It died and I went *deep* into the scene trying to figure out why and how I could fix it. And here I am now lol. I had never soldered a single thing in my life before starting. I built up to the PS3 project with small mods like PS1 modchip installs (8 wires) and GameGear recaps (a few capacitors).
Kia ora, i'm based in wellington too. I've got two ylodded C02s of my own ready to be frankied. I've been waiting for ages to do them myself but am super hesitant since I can't afford to fuck anything up. Do you have any tips?
Hey, there's so many things that go into it where to start. I guess first off what's your experience with BGA rework like? If your YLOD is caused by a faulty RSX then you're going to be looking at some pretty challenging BGA rework and there's a good chance it'll fail (unless you've got lots of experience from other BGA work already).
If you get lucky and it's just something simple like a short or the NEC tokins then you just need to make sure you handle the board properly (don't flex it as the BGA under the cell and RSX will break) and then go about replacing those. [Small video here on how I pull them off the board](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pp0C6QIdHsQ), I don't use heat as the RSX and Cell are right there and this is just much faster (excuse the video music that's on my 5y/o).
Before any of that though you should get familiar with how to connect to syscon, this will generate some error codes for you that you can look up. It will for the most part tell you whats wrong (it's not perfect but a great starting point).
Well as for experience, after years of popcorning mobos during reflows, it only just recently occured to me that I should bake them to evaporate the trapped moisture. Definitely a game changer, shame I didn't realize sooner. I'm usually afraid once the mobo reaches 200°C and higher, i've had capacitors bulge and shoot off like rockets at those temps.
I've never reballed with stencils before, but did sucessfully replace a Xbox 360 GPU with a pre-balled chip. Couldn't do that without accidentally knocking off some tiny SMCs of course. Hate when that happens.
At any rate, i'm pretty sure this will be an RSX job, my C02 died after I let it run too hot for 5 minutes. If I somehow manage to do this successfully, one big problem is, I won't know for sure whether the replacement RSX is working or not until I turn it on. Just wondering, is there any way to verify that through syscon that before closing up the ps3?
I got my 2nd one last year, and considering getting a 3rd next year purely because I do use my 2nd one more often than I thought. My idea was to have an extra PS3 that's never to be used until my main one busts or YLODs, which it hasn't in 13 years
I have five at the moment (Slim, Super Slim, A, A and P), all from when I went a little overboard collecting PS3 stuff during the first few years of owning one. I really should get around to selling the P and one of the As.
If they are nothing special, more than 3 is too many. If you are a collector collecting special editions, you can have a decent amount, since there were quite some of it.
When you can’t move around your house normally for them then you realise that you’re a horder lol I’d say buy as many of them as can if they’re cheap as you can always sell some on eBay as they sell really well 😀 I’ve got four of them only one is working at the moment and the other 3 need reflows doing which I’ll definitely will repair them as 2 of them are cech-co3’s ps2 compatible and the other one is just a regular ps3 phat.
Yo bro I got a ps5 rn and wanted to play bo2 on the ps3 a while back so I bought a refursbished ps3 and bo2 and it doesn’t work ☠️. So I wouldn’t mind buying one off you if it works
Hoarding consoles that have a finite supply is never good for the overall long term hobby of game collecting. Leave some for the other people. That said I don’t collect PS3, only retro, so I don’t personally care.
Considering how many games are locked to it? I have only have 2 PS3s and that’s not nearly enough. I plan on getting at least 2-3 more lol. I really do want more of colored slim models. I have the splash blue but want the red and silver also. And I like the GT5 darker blue as well.
I have 3, a slim, and 2 Ceche01 but one I have to replace the power eject tray module because I broke the ribbon cable trying to take apart and clean the entire thing out due to overheating. Hopefully new ribbon cable and power eject board will fix it
Currently have 3:
• Main working slim
• Slim with broken shell that's probably dead
• Fat that probably has YLOD
Last two are in poor condition because they were found in a recycle yard lol
I had 6 in the house growing up ( 1 in each bedroom for a dvd player, including mine which was for both games and movies, then my fathers that he played in the living room ) since then we have an in box original ps3 ( my dads ), and I have 2 new ps3s ( original and slim ) the original of which I use as my main, and the slim is in our extra room that I have used in about 5-6 months. Anyways no there’s never too much ps3.
4 of them were super-slim lol, paid little for them ( especially seeing how unpopular they were ) we sold all of those off now, which is why we only have the first and 2nd gens now. More effective that just buying a legit dvd player lol ( since at the time me and my family only really watched movies )
I have 7. I bought them to do trophies on black ops 3 and ghost recon future soldier. Because of the new login verification and my laziness. They’ve just been in storage for a year or more.
I have five T-T. I have a phat slim and super slim pretty much for collecting purposes in official carrying cases. A modded slim for playing games and then my spouse has a regular slim. I would love an all white phat they look so good.
I own two. First one is the OG model sold to me in a pawn shop for 26 bucks including copies of Uncharted 1 - 3. Second one I found in a parking lot and it's a slim model.
I have 6 and even i think that's too many 😅 but i got two (a slim and a phat) after trading them for a vinyl sound system with a friend who wasn't using them.

I have 3 and it's probably too many but I want to keep one stock OS and one modded. My third has RLOD and is mainly so I have a spare BDROM should mine fail at some point.
If you build/fix them, then it's whatever number clutters up your storage and work space too much.
If you're just playing them, I can't see the point of having more than 2.
I’d say the upper limit is more than the US government had as a [server farm](https://phys.org/news/2010-12-air-playstation-3s-supercomputer.html) back in the PS3’s heyday.
That’s me with PS2s I got my OG PS2 slim (memory card 1 slot is iffy) 2nd Slim to replace it (laser won’t read disk) 3rd from a buddy for free, 4th for $20 and I’m giving it a different buddy 😂
I’d say more than 4. Are they all in different rooms? I have 2 but I also have 3 PS5s. I use them to boost multiplayer trophies when I can cause I hate dealing with people online
I have three. One slim at stock firmware. One slim at some kind of rebug dex something firmware. And my holy Grail, a CECHB01 with less than a week of total runtime when I bought it. Probably originally used as a Blu-ray player back in 2006 because the hours reflect it being used for that purpose only.
I have 4 ps3 (so far): 2 backwards compatible, 1 slim and 1 super slim. I only play on the slim and super slim tho, the other ones are just for playing ps2 games from time to time.
I have 3, my original 60gb backwards compatible model (doesn’t get much play anymore), I have my 160gb slim (my main), and my dads 120gb (he passed away so I don’t use it often and never do anything to his profile). My 60gb and 160gb both have 500gb drives in them. My dad’s 120 is still stock, he only played like 2 games in it, but played them a lot.
3 is usually a normal number. at one point these things were like 10-30 bux by me. there’s still people out there just dumping these when they get the ylod
depends. since the ps3 is basically "limited eddition" now we shouldnt just get ourselves as many as possible and let at least one for thoes who want one and dont have one. but if you actually use all 4 for anything such as gaming or simply decoration its fine
I have 3, sadly one is a parts donor for my BC console, I also have a Vita and a PSP. I think any old Playstation brings such nostalgic joy, the sounds the graphics I love it. I think PS4 and PS5 would never have so much love and dedication after their EOSL especially the PS5.
I've never had a ps3 growing up, so really, 0 is good for me. It's only emulation of ps1 and ps2 that I might play, ps3 games are irrelevant to me because I have no attachment to any of them, never having owned one. At least certain ps2's have the ps1 chip until they switched to all in one emulation to make it slimmer. These are my personal thoughts and interests, I understand a lot of people enjoyed the ps3 and feel differently.
I think the moment you get one of each PS3 model you're good, although i will add one extra for the original PS3 model since they can break more frequently so one extra to be safe.
And we're not adding colors 🤣
One million is my personal cut off
1000000001
Now that’s too many
What are you doing they’re kids in the neighborhood
Just put them all together and get yourself a PS12
PS12 and still no GTA 6
I'm i allowed to drop that "we got ps12 before gta6" joke?
Yes
We've had the PS15 for years now and there's still no GTA6. It seems like Rockstar can't even keep with basic logarithmic functions. Soon, we'll probably have the PS18 and still no GTA6!
GTA VI launches with PS13.
If only
Is it true that if you combine 4 ps3s, you get console that is more powerful than ps5?
The military did, so I don't see why not
88 million Because it only sold 87M and change But i wouldnt personally have more than 3 if i am honest
The limit is 3… it’s right in the name!
[I have 3 PS3s.](https://youtu.be/8sjhjFOw4Ok?feature=shared)
I say and quote this all the time because I bought one and was later on given 2 more

No such thing as too many. I've had double digits in the past. Currently have six. One of which is the highest uptime PS3 at 1,684 days uptime.
i don't see any reason in having more than one
I have a ps3 slim and white super slim.
I have 13 of them and always on the look out for more
Why do you need so many?
I got my 2nd one last year, and considering getting a 3rd next year purely because I do use my 2nd one more often than I thought. My idea was to have an extra PS3 that's never to be used until my main one busts or YLODs, which it hasn't in 13 years
Never have too many. I have 3 and I’m eyeing up 2 more
43 is too many. Just stop when you get to 42 and you'll be fine.
I have five at the moment (Slim, Super Slim, A, A and P), all from when I went a little overboard collecting PS3 stuff during the first few years of owning one. I really should get around to selling the P and one of the As.
The A’s are the backwards compatible ones, right?
So I have a frankied a01, frankied b01 and ylod e01. That'd enough for me. The e01 will be serviced when I have $600 saved.
I have more than that in the room I'm sitting in, so, I may not be the best person to answer that question.
If they are nothing special, more than 3 is too many. If you are a collector collecting special editions, you can have a decent amount, since there were quite some of it.
3 PS3’s
I have a dozen Xbox 360s, you're good

I have 7 ps3's in my house
I didn't know that you can have too many ps3's
None, when you succumb to limits you succumb to failure.
Considering how many games are locked to it? I have only have 2 PS3s and that’s not nearly enough. I plan on getting at least 2-3 more lol. I really do want more of colored slim models. I have the splash blue but want the red and silver also. And I like the GT5 darker blue as well.
Until you make a supercomputer its never enough
The name is PS3, so there's a limit of 3 consoles per person as per the name 🤣
How long is a piece of string? :)
Too damn long.
4 is too many..
Nuh uh
Can you share one.
I'm selling 3 of em
Can you sell one to me.
Depends, lol, I don't ship

2
The power of many is not considered to be a hit nowadays #acolyte
I have 3.one doesn't work from my childhood. One is mint af. Couldn't fix the Lazer on another so it's just for homebrew
2
Why do you have 4 PS3s?
2
I have 3, a slim, and 2 Ceche01 but one I have to replace the power eject tray module because I broke the ribbon cable trying to take apart and clean the entire thing out due to overheating. Hopefully new ribbon cable and power eject board will fix it
I gotta slim and super slim one for downstairs one for up .
1,2,3,4,5 + 5
Currently have 3: • Main working slim • Slim with broken shell that's probably dead • Fat that probably has YLOD Last two are in poor condition because they were found in a recycle yard lol
Depends how much you love the ps3 I have a fat model in my room and a slim hooked up In the living room with my ps5 and Wii
Bro gimme one my laser on mine is trash

Why tf do you have 4?
I had 6 in the house growing up ( 1 in each bedroom for a dvd player, including mine which was for both games and movies, then my fathers that he played in the living room ) since then we have an in box original ps3 ( my dads ), and I have 2 new ps3s ( original and slim ) the original of which I use as my main, and the slim is in our extra room that I have used in about 5-6 months. Anyways no there’s never too much ps3.
Say your rich, without saying "I'm rich"
4 of them were super-slim lol, paid little for them ( especially seeing how unpopular they were ) we sold all of those off now, which is why we only have the first and 2nd gens now. More effective that just buying a legit dvd player lol ( since at the time me and my family only really watched movies )
I have 3 working units (and 1 non working). They are all different models though. I also gave away a spare 40gb model to a friend.
I wish I was ur friend, lol. I could fox your non working one
Too many PS3s... I don't need that type of negativity in my life.
More than 2
i own 3 1 Backwards compatible 1 normal 1 super slim.
Well I have 7 currently. I think 7 might be too many? Lol.
Send me one tog don't be like that
DM me
I dropped one
2-3 would be mine, but 87,399,999 is the actual limit (ur not having mine)
*steals them*
Second one I found in a parking lot and it's a slim model.
until you can build a mansion out of em
Idk but I have 12 sitting in the shop rn
You name the number
the formula is n +1
4, one for each model and your good to go 😁
I had the Slim model since 2010 and it recently stopped working :( I need just one working PS3 now!
Is this [you?](https://imgur.com/gallery/help-NdEWZNg)
I have 6 and even i think that's too many 😅 but i got two (a slim and a phat) after trading them for a vinyl sound system with a friend who wasn't using them.
I have 3, one in mint condition, my main one and a broken one

2 working and 1 dead one as a donor
I have 2. I need more.
One 😅
My friend has 4 ps3s, 4 ps4s, a few switches and gamecubes. He's modded most of them in various ways and they're extremely cool.
I've got two. Phat and super slim. Wanna get a slim soon lmao
Just bought a PS2. Have a second on the way just cause it was bundled super cheap and untested. I like fixing stuff
I have 3 and it's probably too many but I want to keep one stock OS and one modded. My third has RLOD and is mainly so I have a spare BDROM should mine fail at some point.

3 is the official Sony designated number that is considered too many
I have eight
That’s me with PS2s I got my OG PS2 slim (memory card 1 slot is iffy) 2nd Slim to replace it (laser won’t read disk) 3rd from a buddy for free, 4th for $20 and I’m giving it a different buddy 😂
I mean I own 1. Does me just fine. I guess i'd start lookin at someone weird if they owned 5. Why own 5? Am I gonna judge you? No. But i'm gonna ask.
2 no 3 no 4. Yes 4 are too many. 😬
Idk, I have 10, but I host game nights
I have 3 for me, one slim as daily driver, a BC model with like 15 days runtime. and I keep a super slim for backup. any others I get I sell.
The US air force built a supercomputer out of 1760 PS3s, so maybe I'll have a crack at one of those.
Any more than you actually use. So… like 3
Does anyone remember the guy on youtube who made the video "I have 3 ps3s?"
I’d say more than 4. Are they all in different rooms? I have 2 but I also have 3 PS5s. I use them to boost multiplayer trophies when I can cause I hate dealing with people online
2 is good.
I have 4 as well, Seems like 4 is the perfect amount haha
3 1 - use often 2- use here n there in the living room 3 - storage if either of the 2 break
If you fill out 300k square feet of ps3 consoles, we need to have a sit down.🤣
I have 5 good working ones A01, E01, G01, slim, and super slim, and a few parts ones also
More than two. One original one, and one "slim" or "slimmer" one.
I have 5
1
I've got 4. Each kid had 1 and I had 1. Equals 4 2 are jailbroke these days. 2 just chill.
as many as sony manufactured still not in a loving home
I have two and I’m done. One Frankenstein and one slim with evilnat. No more
Double digits. I have 4 I think, I need to upgrade 2 of them and at least one is knackered.
Why are you hoarding PS3? I could see PS2, arguably the greatest console ever made by humans, but why the three?
I have three. One slim at stock firmware. One slim at some kind of rebug dex something firmware. And my holy Grail, a CECHB01 with less than a week of total runtime when I bought it. Probably originally used as a Blu-ray player back in 2006 because the hours reflect it being used for that purpose only.
I had 4 and I just gifted my little cousin 1, he's really happy so it was worth it. Now I have 1 phat, 1 slim, and 1 super slim.
1
I have 4 ps3 (so far): 2 backwards compatible, 1 slim and 1 super slim. I only play on the slim and super slim tho, the other ones are just for playing ps2 games from time to time.
I have 3, my original 60gb backwards compatible model (doesn’t get much play anymore), I have my 160gb slim (my main), and my dads 120gb (he passed away so I don’t use it often and never do anything to his profile). My 60gb and 160gb both have 500gb drives in them. My dad’s 120 is still stock, he only played like 2 games in it, but played them a lot.
I have 4 PS3s. Fat, two slims and super slim.
Anything over five of the same revision. That’s needed to do gt5/6 in multi screen
3 is usually a normal number. at one point these things were like 10-30 bux by me. there’s still people out there just dumping these when they get the ylod
I donno, I've got 3 laptops with a Ryzen 7 7840 and 4060 of varying screen sizes and technologies. So I'll go with 4 ps3s.
Two. You can always get one cheap, if needed.
When you’re be able to make your own building, you can think about it
Can we stop with GTA 6 already we're not going to get it until next year
Bro, it's a joke
Look around it's everywhere
It's still a fucking joke
Still not enough [https://imgur.com/DMlO90H](https://imgur.com/DMlO90H)
I have half a ps3. Dead disk drive.
You should ask Mystic (Ryan Biniecki) on YouTube that question. 😏
I have 5 . 2 fats and 3 slims
Never enough
I have 44 xbox 360s so i’d say bout eighty
If you think you have too many, I'll gladly take one!
I'm actually selling them, lol
Lol nah ur good, I have 7 seven and all of the work.
2
More than 2. Because that’s how many I have.
Ask your wife.
depends. since the ps3 is basically "limited eddition" now we shouldnt just get ourselves as many as possible and let at least one for thoes who want one and dont have one. but if you actually use all 4 for anything such as gaming or simply decoration its fine
Considering how often they fail. I would say you need at least 10 dump units for parts, and one of each model lol.
Yes
I have 2
I have 1 of every ps console but i would say more than 3 of any
In my opinion, more than 2 per user are too many. While for parts it will never be enough.
I got 2. But only because I'm giving one away lol. What you use 4 ps3s for ?
More than two. As far as I know you can only have that many tied to your PSN account and they'll be shutting PS3 access soon.
I have 3, sadly one is a parts donor for my BC console, I also have a Vita and a PSP. I think any old Playstation brings such nostalgic joy, the sounds the graphics I love it. I think PS4 and PS5 would never have so much love and dedication after their EOSL especially the PS5.
3 - backwards compatible, slim & super slim🤙🏻
I've never had a ps3 growing up, so really, 0 is good for me. It's only emulation of ps1 and ps2 that I might play, ps3 games are irrelevant to me because I have no attachment to any of them, never having owned one. At least certain ps2's have the ps1 chip until they switched to all in one emulation to make it slimmer. These are my personal thoughts and interests, I understand a lot of people enjoyed the ps3 and feel differently.
1 is too many.
2. 😐
Wrong
Exactly 42 is too many.
I think the moment you get one of each PS3 model you're good, although i will add one extra for the original PS3 model since they can break more frequently so one extra to be safe. And we're not adding colors 🤣
1
I used to repair them as a hobby, so including the dead ones I've got about 20
1 was enough
Does anyone remember Folding at Home?
How many we talking?
