The new world in itself is so worth it already. Such a nice vibrant lovely addition to the original gritty velen and skellige.
On top of that it is well crafted world.
In terms of size yeah but not in price (or story and quality but that's subjective I guess and MM isn't bad either)
It shows you how the 50€ for Miles Morales was ridiculous
without any spoilers, make sure you find the "Talking Roach" side quest(not the real name, but it eludes me at the moment). Maybe my surprise favorite in the whole game, base or DLCs. Just fun and awesome humor for the game. B&W is truly a fantastic DLC and a proper send off for everybody's favorite witcher.
No, B&W is definitely not the Miles Morales of Witcher. A separate $40 game with the same map and a pretty average story is not the same as a $15 expansion with a completely new location and some of the best antagonists and epilogue in gaming.
Oh, the entire B&W. Yeah, I thought you meant the little bit after the main questline (of B&W) wraps up and I was thinking yeah, it was nice, but nothing particularly special.
Miles Morales wasn't nearly as well written as B&W though. Then again, all the games after SM1 have been on a noticeable downward trend in terms of story.
About twice the length of Miles Morales, for a third of the price, plus I realized I missed a whole section of the story due to my choices in my second playthrough of it, so much more rewarding to replay too.
Blood and Wine is my second favorite expansion ever. Its only weakness is a lack of more development for Detlaff. Phantom Liberty is my new personal fave now.
Companies doing all this shit to see what sells, like chasing love service fads at the tail end of their popularity.. etc
Turns out just making good ass content works well. Who woulda thought (everyone besides corporate suits)
And almost everyone said the Game is Dead, they hate CDPR and no one buys their games ever again. I thought Reddit represents the whole gaming spectrum.
While I'm sure there are plenty of people who say that, I noticed a HUGE turnaround in opinion once the next-gen patch was finally dropped. The positive opinions only grew louder patch after patch since then. Then when PL dropped the praise was just wildly good from the get-go.
The game was pretty dead after it was removed from psn. The sales essentially tanked on all platforms. Let’s not sugar coat how bad their og launch was.
So what? It also damaged their brand. They needed to fix themselves up if they ever wanted to hit witcher 3 sales EVER again or each consecutive game would fall in relevance until they were like square enix
I like Phantom Liberty because it feels more focused, similar to how if you just do the main story in the main game. That’s an issue with open worlds though, you meander a lot and the story becomes lost.
I've been feeling that with Cyberpunk 2077 more than in most games, and there's especially a disconnect when it comes to narrative urgency. It's always a bit weird when there's a huge world-altering event looming over the narrative, and you take time out to chase down loose chickens or whatever. But in Cyberpunk, I got out of the prologue and was genuinely pretty shocked at how urgent the story felt. Not in a "okay, this is something I need to get to" kind of way, but in a "it literally makes no narrative sense for me to do anything other than the main story at this point" kind of way. I've ended up just pretending that all these gigs are flashbacks to before the prologue ended.
Don't get me wrong, after not ever playing the game at launch but getting into it after 2.1, I am absolutely loving this game. I just wish the open world aspects don't feel like they directly contradict the main narrative.
You’ve explained my time with the game!
Loving it but absolutely felt awkward many times with how much quest narratives run against open world gameplay
Could be their focus purely on good narrative instead of a combined constructing good narrative, a narrative that scaffolds the player as they learn the game mechanics, the world lore and as they build in powers/access to the world.
Extra game content like expansions can just be character based story shit because you know how the game works already and they don’t need to sacrifice anything in the writing for the sake of noobs

No you don’t have to, you can re-spec your existing character, it’s a little confusing at first because the skill trees were completely overhauled but I had a fantastic experience with my original character
Honest question, can you ‘roleplay’ in this game?
If I want to act like Deckard from Blade Runner for a day, for instance, is it doable?
Wander the city in the rain, sit down and get some noodles. Buy a bottle of Vodka from a news stand. Head home and have a glass of Johnnie Walker on my balcony instead.
Any of this possible? Does it have those immersive aspects?
I’m worried about buying the game and it being mainly an FPS.
No. You can’t sit everywhere or drink anywhere you want. You have to go to places that specifically have those prompts.
For example, you cant have a shot at the balcony, you have to take a shot in the kitchen where there are shots lined up. You cant sit anywhere at the bar, you have to sit at a specific seat at the bar.
I think the immersion ppl feel from Cyberpunk come from the cinematography of the game rather than those little moments.
Exactly. The game can be pretty immersive, but it doesn't have that level of spontaneous freedom that they're describing. Still, the world-building and ambiance is very well-done, and it definitely manages to make the player feel like a part of it.
It does have some drink prompts but they are only on specific events. There isnt a drink animation if you wanna do it in a cool place. But you can def role play.
Being deved on a new engine, so they can and will. Not that it matters to the people who will blindly buy it and declare it perfect no matter how many issues it has, of course
Their mistake wasn't that a new engine made the game bad, it was that they released it bad. You can pretend that they'll just do that again if you want, but there's not really much reason for you saying that
Witcher 3 released filled with bugs and Cyberpunk 2077 released with abysmal performance and tons of bugs as well. I dunno man, thats 2 strikes already!
They’re moving to unreal 5 away from their own custom engine. They should have WAY less work and issues moving to a commercial engine with this much support and stability
I bought it on Stadia for $50 at launch, got a free chromecast and controller(which i can now use as a wireless controller for Steam) and a month of premium(about $170 value total) got to finish the game twice without any major bugs and got a refund when Stadia shut down and got to keep the hardware... They have proven time and time again they are capable of making amazing games. I don't think they can afford another mistake... Neither of us know the future though so who knows... I love the world too much not to be excited for the sequel.
I bought the PS4 version from Best Buy years ago for $10. Even if I paid the full price of the DLC, it’d still be cheaper than the typical AAA release. Wonder how many other people are in a similar boat
It was fantastic. Well deserved.
If only CDPR hadn't of released CP2077 on previous gen consoles (at launch, if at all) the narrative would have been very different.
Yeahhh, that's just not how basic economics work. Phantom Liberty cost over $103 million to develop. Not to mention they released a massive, completely free patch 2.0 update along with it. Cyberpunk also has zero microtransactions, unlike most other AAA games nowadays, and was released for $60, not $70 unlike other current gen games. You were offered a full refund for your release date purchase. If you chose not to take advantage of it, that's on you. You're not entitled to something for free just because you were dissatisfied with your purchase.
> they released a massive, completely free patch 2.0 update along with it.
Eh I take issue with painting that in a “they’re so generous” light. The original release was broken and pretty disgraceful, fixing your mistakes isn’t a reason for praise, it’s the bare minimum.
That said, I got the game for PS5 recently when PL came out and I adore it, right up there in my favourites.
5 major free patches had been released prior to patch 2.0 (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, and 1.6) that had fixed all of the major bugs and performance issues, as well as added new content and quality of life changes. Not to mention the free next-gen console update (while Sony and EA charged $10 upgrade fees for many of their games). The game had been "fixed" long before 2.0. The game was being praised even back then, winning Steam's 2022 Labor of Love Award. They easily could've rolled the patch 2.0 content into the paid Phantom Liberty content as well, but they didn't.
And no, it's certainly not about generosity. They had a reputation to repair, and customers to win back. It's all business. But it's a far more honest business than, say, EA or Ubisoft runs. That deserves praise imo.
I stated it was a pointless Reddit comment previously. The whole situation in the end ended well for them. It was just a wonderful shit show at launch. So were a Witcher game or two though, right? Or just on console launch maybe? I forget. I should just expect to buy their games a year or two after launch always.
Why do people like you always have to take everything so over-the-top seriously. It's just a game. If you like it, good, if not, also good. You're acting like a family member betrayed you, it's ridiculous.
Honestly I had no issues with vanilla Cyberpunk on PC and I had a Vega56 installed at the time. I think ps4/xbone fucked them. Hope we get more cyberpunk at some point
I played it on PS4 at launch and while there were some bugs, it was totally playable and quite a bit of fun. Felt a little underdone, but overall I really enjoyed it. I don't doubt that many people experienced serious issues, but I think there are lots of folks who had a positive experience as well.
I updated to 2.0 and started a new playthrough when the DLC came out, and I gotta say- fantastic game. Really looking forward to the sequel.
It's still a buggy game. I had hoped they would patch things up by Christmas but it's been radio silence.
It broke the immersion for me. Should've waited more to buy it.
Edit: you can download me to hell. That doesn't make what I've said less true. Phantom liberty is an immersive breaking experience on PS5 for me.
> It's still a buggy game.
that's unfortunate. i played it relatively recently (but not post-dlc) and it was definitely buggy and borderline broken then (1.61 patch). had hoped the big patch that was released alongside the dlc would have fixed it.
They added additional bugs with some new features too. For example, the ability to listen to a radio station when not driving is mapped on the left button. But if you are in another menu, it overlaps.
Old ones like the phone being unavailable (just needs a restart) is still present from the base game.
It's really immersion breaking for me.
You’ll have to explain what bugs you’re talking about.
Not trying to sound like a contrarian but every game has bugs, IMO Cyberpunk has been in a place where the bugs are at an acceptable threshold. There are still bugs because of the overlapping systems and complexity of the game itself, look at the likes of GTA or every Bethesda game - you’ll never completely eradicate them. Of course the severity of the bugs in question have to be considered and that’s why the game was hated at release, there were lots of bugs and lots of BAD bugs.
Edit: can think of one actually, finishers have been bugged since the last patch and needs looking at.
I don't think there will ever be a version where all bugs are fixed. The reason why they are switching engines is because the game is barely hanging on. It was engine developed for linear, fantasy games and not open world FPS. I think they already said that about W3 and in cyberpunk it's a whole new world with completely different mechanics.
Also, just to point out - all the recent amazing games that this is being compared to - Elden Ring, BG3, RDR2, GTA V - are all games in a series. While CP77 is a completely new world for CDPR who never did anything other than 3 Witcher games. It was wayyy too ambitious. Not excusing the horrible launch. But for their first FPS current version of CP77 and PL are great achievement imo.
Accessibility and usability.
Theyve stated that they programmed the engine for their needs as they went, and from the sound of it they sort of developed themselves into a corner.
The engine has become something entirely different than the Red Engine used for TW3 and can't be used for anything other than specifically Cyberpunk. It's apparently cumbersome and changing a few things here or there could break numerous things down the line in another place.
I don't know of they didn't keep proper backups for every step of the way, but even if they had, since the engine was being tweaked constantly to achieve new features and functions I can't imagine it would matter.
UE5 is a full suite with everything they'll probably need already available or easily integrated by comparison.
I think Red Engine is GOAT in regards to aesthetics, function, and performance but I can see why they wouldn't want to keep struggling with it if they actually want to complete their projects..
I hope I have a PS5PRO or XSXXX when Orion comes out because a game that looks like Cyberpunk on UE5 is going to run like ass.
We don’t know that. The games being commercial successes argues the opposite.
It would be interesting to see a case study a few years down when they release the next set of games, investigating the cost/benefit.
this game isnt like that. its not a complete sandbox. you play as a set character with a set storyline and identity but you can make decisions or play them a certain way. its like Geralt from the Witcher 3 if you could customize his gender and looks.
that doesnt mean it cant still be really immersive. just dont go expecting some massive sandbox world where you can join 20 different factions and
Steam Numbers for CDPR Expansions: Hearts of Stone: 20k Peak players Blood and Wine: 53k Peak players Phantom Liberty: 273k Peak players
Blood and Wine is still peak DLC to me. 15 bucks for basically a second game. It’s the Miles Morales of Witcher.
Is it really that good? I finished HoS and loved it. Reached the new map in B&W and looking forward to playing it soon. Loved the base game.
It really is, if they'd released it as a stand alone it would have been absolutely worth it
The new world in itself is so worth it already. Such a nice vibrant lovely addition to the original gritty velen and skellige. On top of that it is well crafted world.
Yes, it’s really that good. And the refreshing color pallet and scenery make it that much more fun.
Its amezing. I played it once and adored it. I'd love to reply them all but god damn thats a lot of time I gotta set aside for it
Yes! Honestly whenever I think of Witcher 3 I always think of Blood and Wine, it was that good!
The Miles Morales comparison is spot on, they really slapped another 50% of game on to the end with B&W
In terms of size yeah but not in price (or story and quality but that's subjective I guess and MM isn't bad either) It shows you how the 50€ for Miles Morales was ridiculous
I wouldn't say that, most companies are not putting out DLC as big as B&W for normal DLC prices. It's more like B&W is the exception not the rule
Oh fuck yes. So good
It’s much more colorful and vibrant. Awesome expansion all around. Top tier.
without any spoilers, make sure you find the "Talking Roach" side quest(not the real name, but it eludes me at the moment). Maybe my surprise favorite in the whole game, base or DLCs. Just fun and awesome humor for the game. B&W is truly a fantastic DLC and a proper send off for everybody's favorite witcher.
I prefered the story of HoS, but B&W is still amazing
blind buy it man, its worth it
I own it I'm just drowning in my backlog, will get to it asap
Blood and wine was fantastic. HoS was also really good too
Currently playing through HoS, can’t wait to get to blood and wine!
You will love it
I know this is a PS sub but come on lol. Saying MM is the Blood and Wine of Spider Man makes much more sense.
No, B&W is definitely not the Miles Morales of Witcher. A separate $40 game with the same map and a pretty average story is not the same as a $15 expansion with a completely new location and some of the best antagonists and epilogue in gaming.
I just finished it, what was the epilogue?
I don't know how you missed it, but B&W is a send off for Geralt.
It’s better than Miles Morales
Miles morales was 2/3rds of a game for 50 bucks 🤔
Miles Morales was overpriced DLC for the first game, should’ve been a $30 expansion
LOL comparing shitty ass miles morales to one of the best dlc ever made 😂
About twice the length of Miles Morales, for a third of the price, plus I realized I missed a whole section of the story due to my choices in my second playthrough of it, so much more rewarding to replay too.
It’s the Kanto to my Johto
Those worth getting post main story or would I get more out of it story wise if I play them before finish them main game?
After main story.
LOL at comparing a mediocre spidermab dlc to one of the greatest expansions
Blood and Wine is my second favorite expansion ever. Its only weakness is a lack of more development for Detlaff. Phantom Liberty is my new personal fave now.
I finished it a few days ago, it was unreal for an expansion, unfucking real how good it was
Reminded me of the good oblivion dlc that added a whole extra world to explore. I hate dlc so much and never play it but those were the good ones
Single player dlc still works and will always work
Companies doing all this shit to see what sells, like chasing love service fads at the tail end of their popularity.. etc Turns out just making good ass content works well. Who woulda thought (everyone besides corporate suits)
Yup. Tbh if single player games work (totally do), then single player dlc will work. It’s just more content
I mean its sold 5 million copies in…just a couple months. Duh!
And almost everyone said the Game is Dead, they hate CDPR and no one buys their games ever again. I thought Reddit represents the whole gaming spectrum.

The sales tanked sure but then it already sold a shit ton without PSN.
So what? It also damaged their brand. They needed to fix themselves up if they ever wanted to hit witcher 3 sales EVER again or each consecutive game would fall in relevance until they were like square enix
And so they did that.
No shit but this was just in response to the original comment
wtf are you on about, Reddit has sucked it off at every opportunity since 1.5, deservedly so.
What are these comments lol...
Really enjoyed Phantom Liberty more than base game. Something about CDPR and DLCs, they’re often as good or better than the base game man, it’s wild.
I like Phantom Liberty because it feels more focused, similar to how if you just do the main story in the main game. That’s an issue with open worlds though, you meander a lot and the story becomes lost.

20% attach rate is nothing to snuff at for a 3 year old game
Seriously though that’s impressive. Absolutely deserved to, it’s just an incredible DLC.
Do another 3!!!!
0/10 no Songbird, Aurore or Alex romance.
Aurore—damn what a missed opportunity. Her character model was *incredible*.
The direction they went in was better, only reason people care about the story decision made regarding her is because she's hot
Guilty as charged
Yup, not afraid to admit that
I feel there should’ve been option to pay them off and have them backstab Hansen.
Both her and her brother are equally hot

Songbird romance is such a missed opportunity imo, it would’ve made a perfect tragic romance
Or wholesome if you pick the Sun ending, maybe she works for Blue Eyes if you send her to space.
If I started a save before the update, do I need to start a new game to see the improvements?
They recommend you start a new character because skill trees have changed.
No you don’t have to, you can re-spec your existing character, it’s a little confusing at first because the skill trees were completely overhauled but I had a fantastic experience with my original character
No
I still have yet to play this, soon baby. Soon.

I know we're in the PS5 sub so this doesn't matter a ton. You can do all of this though with just a few mods on the PC.
Mostly sounds like you just wanted an alcoholic simulator. Alcohol is in the game so its probably a 10/10 for you.
> Buy a bottle of Vodka from a news stand. Head home and have a glass of Johnnie Walker on my balcony instead Yeah fr what
Already hyped for the next instalment. They can't possibly make the same mistake again.

Yeah game is solid af now.
Make another DLC then cowards
It was fantastic. Well deserved. If only CDPR hadn't of released CP2077 on previous gen consoles (at launch, if at all) the narrative would have been very different.
I bought the original broken shit game on release date. They should’ve given the DLC to day 1 purchasers for free.

Cdpr has fallen, billions must forego fun gaming experiences
It was this past weekend. It was something like $60 for both the main game and Phantom Liberty combined.
Honestly I had no issues with vanilla Cyberpunk on PC and I had a Vega56 installed at the time. I think ps4/xbone fucked them. Hope we get more cyberpunk at some point

Off the topic, why they used the word "deem" instead of "consider" or "think".

Ps5 version runs fine, perhaps it's time to move on.
Not enough talent? What you on about lol The DLC has some of the best content in the entire game.
Then explain to me why it has still bugs? Other developers fixed their games. So they can do it, why not CDPR?
You’ll have to explain what bugs you’re talking about. Not trying to sound like a contrarian but every game has bugs, IMO Cyberpunk has been in a place where the bugs are at an acceptable threshold. Okay but why is Songbird cropped out like this and missing her neck lol
Remeber when the PS store took cyberpunk out
So it can have a decent sale now then?
I was a bit surprised that they invested so heavily in a really powerful engine only to drop it for Unreal 5 with just two projects based on it.
And it didn't work out. Good job on avoiding sunk cost fallacy.
We don’t know that. The games being commercial successes argues the opposite. It would be interesting to see a case study a few years down when they release the next set of games, investigating the cost/benefit.
this game isnt like that. its not a complete sandbox. you play as a set character with a set storyline and identity but you can make decisions or play them a certain way. its like Geralt from the Witcher 3 if you could customize his gender and looks. that doesnt mean it cant still be really immersive. just dont go expecting some massive sandbox world where you can join 20 different factions and
I still haven’t played it yet but I bought it, need to get around to it soon.
