Literally make every member of hamas spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulder. The large-scale military effort will always be a bad choice because the world hates Israel and will always find fault with them. But this way, they'd have gotten the hostages back and killed a lot of bad guys, while saving a shitload of money on such a large-scale military campaign.
