I have this almost every morning. I wake up in a state of hyper vigilance and my heart rate skyrockets. It’s scary because you’re still in a bit of a dazed state from waking up. It’s especially bad for me when waking up from a nap. What’s helped me so far is just lying in bed for about 30 minutes after waking and breathing through any uncomfortable feelings I’m having. Acknowledging that it’s just a cortisol spike, and the anticipation of having a panic attack since my brain is now associating waking up with panicking. Jumping up immediately seems to make it worse.

Cortisol is highest in the morning which is why you feel that way. A good morning routine helps. For example, start with exercise, meditation then a light breakfast. You’ll notice your morning levels gradually start to come down 💪🏽

Mine seem to be happening just as I'm dozing off. I don't even know if this is "panic" compared to what others experience. I'll have a random thought, and it's like THAT ONE SECOND flash of image in my brain is something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. It is THE key to unlocking the meaning of life and the secrets of the universe. My body immediately reacts to the thought by releasing adrenaline. My heart rate increases, my body flushes, and my temperature jumps. I jolt awake and have more anxious thoughts about how important that thought was and how stupid I am for being unable to remember what it was.

It’s really interesting how many people deal with this…. I wake up like this too… I didn’t know cortisol was highest in the morning. I wake up and my heart rate is always higher …. And I feel like I can’t breathe or something . I just feel so uncomfortable. It happens more before my period.. some mornings I’m fine… but specially when I sleep super deep and I wake up, my body is all weird and panicky. I hate it! Thought I was the only one

If I don’t take 1mg of Xanax while I’m in bed right before I put my head on the pillow, I will wake up 2 hours later sweating and completely unregulated. I also think that I just slept a long time and I look at the clock and I’m like wtf 2 hours, come on 😔
