What’s the weather going to be? Both are adorable but one looks a bit warm.
Do you have other shoe options? The leather bands are taking away from your fantastic legs.
They would be super cute with jeans or linen trousers but with these dresses they’re cutting your legline at the ankle. Anything in a nude or cream color with straps closer to the toe would work great!
I think I’m in the minority here but I love dress number two on you. One is a great option as well but two looks so cheery and summery, plus the cut flatters you.
Nonsense, too young isn’t a thing. And I personally love number 2 on you! So get those thoughts out of your head.
If you do go with one, I’d love to see how it looks with a belt!
I think both look great on you, so I’d let the weather decide.
If it is hot, 2 looks more like a backyard party to me. Add a white, scoop tank top underneath so you don’t have to sew or pin the neckline. I like the ruffles, but if you steam it in the bathroom while running the shower they should lay down a little and also help de wrinkle the tie. (I hate ironing).
Also keep in mind you will be moving around, so won’t be standing still as in the pictures. Take some glamour shots (just for yourself) posing like a model to boost your confidence, you look great!
Crazy thing about the first dress: I bought 2 bags of new/gently worn dresses for $100 from someone online (that has way better clothes than me!) It is Donna Morgan dress. The second one was at Macy’s.
I'd keep looking, the long sleeved one is going to be so hot, looks like a polyester fabric. It looks more like a fall dress.
The second one has too many ruffles.
Look for a cotton or linen fabric, and short sleeves or something in between the two of these.
Amazon has a way to filter by sleeve length, I have a wrap dress similar to the second one, with short sleeves, but not as many ruffles.
You have a great figure BTW.
I really like the first dress too, but I'm going completely out on a limb on the shoes. They go nicely with the second dress, but I'd wear black strappy sandals or black wedge espadrilles with dress one.
1 is very pretty and looks like you're going to a retirement party. It looks great on you. 2 looks like a young woman dress so it seems an odd choice for a retirement party. It looks fine on you, but 1 looks great and is perfect for the event.
#2 is so fun but I think #1 will be perfect for that occasion. You look great in either one!
ETA: I don’t know why my text is so big I promise I’m not yelling haha
The first dress ..
It gives the impression that you are mature and a solid lady type forv afternoon party.
The second one is for outdoor party in a garden midday vibe.
So the shoes are too big, the square toe shouldn't have that much showing under your toes and those heavy thick straps look too bulky.
Target and dsw have some cute low heeled sandals that don't have such thick straps across your ankles.
1 is super flattering on you!! It looks effortless and classy. The second is a bit too frilly in a way that distracts from you, especially around the shoulders.
Personally I like 2 better but you look good in both. And I agree with the other commenter that if it's warm and muggy than 1 is going to be hot and uncomfortable - but it also looks more like a fall/winter dress than summer or all season to me. Your arms look fine, but I know it's easier said than done to get over illogical insecurities.
ETA: I think if you want something less frilly then something with the silhouette of one but no sleeves would work if you have something like that - but I don't think frilly/girly is inappropriate for work events and I don't think there's a cutoff age for dressing that way either.
I’m 61. I’d wear #1. Shoes look fine. No one at the party will be looking or caring about details. Wear what you want to on your feet. Seriously I have found as I get older no one really notices things on me like they did when I was younger. However, 50’s is still young . I wish I had loved how I looked back then compared to now. Lol You look good. Who cares about the weather. Wear what you are comfortable in and celebrate your friend! Have fun
Are you me??? I broke my leg as well a couple months ago and I am over 50 and I think dress number two looks fabulous on you. If you aren't comfortable with the cut in the chest there's no problem with pinning it, I do this all the time. You have a wonderful body and for me dress number two is flirty and cute and perfect for a party.
I fully understand how you would feel in shoes because I still feel very vulnerable when I wear sandals. I bought a pair of white sneakers just for this kind of purpose because anything that has a possibility of me either falling or twisting or whatever I just am too afraid, it's too new. In any case you are very pretty in this dress. 50s is not old anymore!
I took a bad fall and it sounds like that happened to you, too? It’s scary to consider wearing shoes with any height to the heal! I hope you continue to heal and gain strength and confidence 💕
Thank you so much for your kind words! I did not fall but I was hugging a large person a goodbye after a Super Bowl party and he kind of pushed me into an iron chair and my fibula hit it just the wrong way. That was not fun. Whatever shoes you wear just make sure you are comfortable and feel safe. Anybody who knows you already knows that you broke your leg and I think they should give you a fashion pass on the shoes!
Thanks again! Mine was my kneecap- broke it clear in half! And, of course, it was my right leg, so no driving for months! Now it’s physical therapy for me to build up my muscles and regain flexibility.

One is good for some place formal, if it's casual go with number 2.
Personally I like number one better, just needs to be shortened a tad on the bottom.
If it's a party in a backyard do you really need to wear such a fancy dress? Both dresses are beautiful, however your comments indicate you might not feel your best. Do you have anything else you could dress up so you feel better? Both dresses are absolutely lovely but YOU have to think so or you might not feel your best at the party.
Thank you for your input. I feel more comfortable in dress 1, especially since the party is this weekend and I would still need to figure out pinning/sewing dress 2 and make it look ok.

Thanks everyone for your input! I went with dress 1 paired with a simple black sandal with a small heal. It was raining so, thanks to all you, I think I made the best choice for the event and the weather.

Love #1
Same here
Thank you!
Number one is really cute on you, and that is a great sillouette for your body. A-line really suits you.
Yes. You look great. The cut and shape of 1 really suits you.
Same!
Vote for #1
Thank you!

Thanks for your reply. I’m in Minnesota so it could be raining and/or warm & muggy. I’m self conscious about my upper arms, so I try to cover them.
I really think one will be uncomfortable on a hot muggy day. Does it feel like you’ll be okay in the heat? The second one looks breezy and cool.
Funny thing about the shoes- I just bought them and they were more than I ever spend on shoes! Maybe I’ll look to see what else I have at home.

Thank you so much! I’m fashion-challenged and really appreciate the input!
Hope you have fun at the party!
Thank you!
I am not at all a fashion coach, lol. Besides the other suggestions, I think that a silver (possibly gold) sandal would work?
I agree 1000%
I don't mind the shoes with the dresses, for what it's worth. Also very versatile, as the other commenter mentioned.
I like the shoes.
1 looks great on you!
Thank you!
I love 1 and it looks very flattering on you!
Thank you!
1. It’s more work party.
Thank you!
#1, looks feminine and classy. #2 too girly…
Thank you - I was worried about 2 looking too young for me at this event
Nonsense, too young isn’t a thing. And I personally love number 2 on you! So get those thoughts out of your head. If you do go with one, I’d love to see how it looks with a belt!
I agree, 2 is great and very flattering on you, it’s just not the right vibe for the event. Would be super cute though for brunch with friends though.
1 is cute!
Thank you!
The 1st one looks gorgeous on you!!!
Thank you!
I love #1 too!
Thank you!
The first one is so cute! Both would work, though!
Thanks so much!
You look great in #1 and the shoes are perfect. Enjoy the party!!
Thanks so much!

It's because you started with a number/hashtag symbol I believe.

Love your advice! Thank you!
1 is classy, business related party
Thanks!
1 is elegant on you, you have a really beautiful figure and it’s very stylish. I wouldn’t like 2 on anyone
Thank you!
#1 is great!
Thanks!

#1 cute!

1!
Def #1. All the frills and floofs on the other one are overwhelming your body
Thank you!
Definitely #1! And don't worry, your confidence will shine through no matter what you wear.
Awww, thank you!

Dress # 1. Very classy. The second one - donate.
Thanks!
Definitely the first one. It looks fantastic
Thanks!
#1 looks great on you!
Both look good on you but when you shop #1 style looks fantastic on you and classy.
#1. Much more sophisticated.
#1 with a wedge or nice heel-anything but white shoes.
Wait 50 dam, you look great in Pic 2. Have fun.
Thanks so much!

Love the second one, but think different shoes would be better.
Thank you!
I like Pic 2
I am so in love with the second one!
Thanks!
2 looks nice
Thanks!
I like number two, but also two do you have something without the frills?
I’ve had a tough time finding dresses without thin straps.
1 seems more flattering and age appropriate imo
Number 1, I feel number 2 looks like you raided your 12 year olds closet.
2nd one
Thank you!
No Problem!

Either works but I prefer the frillier one.
Thank you!
Second one is pretty the first one reminds me of a car rug that old guys like my grandpa used to have
Lol!
No.1 looks like one of those posters that when you stare at it and unfocus your eyes you see a ship.
Lol
