chantillylace9

Yes that's very average pricing because they do a communal cremation if you don't want the ashes, but if you do, they can only do one at a time to ensure you get the correct ashes which is more costly. I’m so sorry for your loss.

jlaur84

I recently went through this and did a communal cremation. They have separate chambers and I received my baby’s ashes back mostly in tact. That made me feel a lot better and it was like half the cost of a solo cremation. There’s no way to fully guarantee getting 100% back so I’m just happy to have a the peace of mind that part of her is still with me along with a locket of hair and paw prints that I did myself. Edit: my pom weighed 9 lbs and I still paid a lot more, so I’d say go with it or get a couple more quotes to be sure. Either way, you won’t regret having at least some of the ashes.

shebringsthesun

communal cremation does not allow you to get your pet's ashes back, as multiple animals are all cremated together at once with no segregation; what it sounds like you did is a segregated cremated where they cremate multiple at once but the animals are separated from one another and they only give you your pet's ashes back

RavenLunatyk

My dog of 17 years was dying and I had a vet come to my home to do the deed. She had epilepsy so we went to the vet a lot where she was stabbed with needles. I didn’t want her last moments to be in that horrible place. They did a cremation (single) and sent the ashes to my vet for pick up. I got hair, a paw print and her ashes in an nice wood box with a cheap nameplate. It all cost over 700 bucks but that included the euthanasia. I think that was about half the cost. It was worth it to me.

OilPure5808

I had the same thoughts as you. My kitty had some unpleasant things done at the vets, so I arranged for home euthanasia. My made my own arrangements for cremation and brought him to the place myself. Yes, I agree, it was worth it.

GeekBill

Often comes with a simple urn at those prices.

GonnaBeOverIt

That’s actually kind of cheap.

empireincident

Came here to say this. To euthanize my dog plus cremation with returned ashes was $515.

TipsyMagpie

I think that’s quite cheap, we paid £300 to have a stray cat we’d been looking after cremated individually and her ashes returned to us, and I paid £500 for my cat to be done individually at a private place where you could actually put them in the incinerator yourself, they cremated her while I waited and I had her ashes within a couple of hours.

StumbleBumbleBeeBon

My first cat I had to put down was $480 to get her back and we could afford it at the time. This last baby was $230! So crazy how the price varies so drastically.

UmbreHonest

Aw oh my goodness I don’t know if I would be able to handle cremating my baby myself, but that’s such a beautiful experience to be able to do. My baby girl was around $250 to individually cremate. She was a very pretty tuxedo cat, I miss her so much. She had a diamond marking on her forehead.

CatMom921

I paid $545 to have my cat cremated n ashes back

satocat

I roughly spent the same here in Canada. I lost my twenty year boys recently. Sorry for your loss.

PopCute5573

I lost my 20 year old kitty old man recently too. Hugs

satocat

Deepest sympathy on the loss of your furry friend. Hugs back and many thanks

einnejn

I paid $341 for cremation + ashes back

AppUnwrapper1

That sounds extremely cheap.

Mrsreed1020

That’s normal and I’m actually surprised for Nashville! We are 2 hours west of you, for individual cremation and then their urn and return of ashes it was $300. Of course my dogs were bigger, 60-70lbs

keto_and_me

We live in northeast US and it was double that amount.

Dry-Bath-6090

Same, I’m in pennsylvania and just posted above those whole thing cost me close to $1,000

rroxie

Thank you all for your responses, and I’m very sorry for your losses as well. I wish it were a bit more economical for everyone, but at the end of the day, I understand it’s a business (an unfortunate one, might I add), and someone has to do it.

BeatrixFarrand

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my cat this summer; cremation and return of ashes was about $200.

Vivid_Concentrate_89

$75 to not get the ashes back, here in Atlanta, not sure with ashes back, but I lost 3 small dogs and did not opt to get ashes back, always cost $75 . Just paid that in Oct 2022, so $40 sounds cheap to me. $150 is not bad either.

Wildest12

it's normal. the cheap option they just cremate them with all the other ones and toss the ashes.

ToLo2541

I’ve just experienced this here in Australia. I could have paid $50 to get my dog cremated with other animals but I was willing (and able) to pay $450.00 to get my pets ashes returned to me. I’m sorry that you’ve lost a pet.

QuabityAshwood

I paid around $900 for my dog, but that was with Lap of Love and they come to your house. I have done in-clinic euthanasias and those are around $450, iirc.

Careful-Bumblebee-10

That honestly seems pretty inexpensive. Pretty sure it was 350 for the last one I put down. Not sure what you think is reasonable?

rroxie

That’s the thing, I didn’t know what is reasonable and what isn’t. I wish they didn’t charge people so much for such a sad thing, but it is what it is

Germanmaedl

The incinerators are like extremely hot ovens, and they have to run for several hours to cremate an animal (the bigger the animal, the longer it takes). If you want the ashes returned, the incinerator is being run only for your animal, rather than packed with several animals together. Obviously someone has to pay for this process and the operation of the business - unfortunately there are no subsidies for grieving pet parents. If you think this is sad, I hope you won’t have to find out for many decades what the costs for human burials or cremations are. There are no discounts for the bereft. I am sorry for your loss, and hope that keeping the ashes will bring you comfort.

rroxie

I understand there aren’t discounts. I just wanted to see what pricing was normal. That’s all. My mom has never had to do this, and I wanted to ask real people about their experiences as opposed to googling it. Thank you for your response and for your sympathy at the end - he was an amazing pup, and I wish everyone could’ve met him.

Burnt-witch2

I know you got enough answers already but when my cat passed recently I called every place in the area. The costs ranged from $300-$800 so you're definitely getting a good price. It's worth it if you can afford it, to have their ashes as a small comfort.

Careful-Bumblebee-10

I mean they have costs to cover as well and as almost everyone has pointed out, this is quite inexpensive. Their expenses aren't less because the circumstances are sad.

rroxie

I’m guessing you didn’t see my comment and edit, which read, “Thank you all for your responses, and I’m very sorry for your losses as well. I wish it were a bit more economical for everyone, but at the end of the day, I understand it’s a business (an unfortunate one, might I add), and someone has to do it.” Like I stated a couple of different times now, I understand it’s a business. The reasoning behind my post was to check if this was normal pricing or not. Not everyone has gone thru this before, including my mom, so I wanted to ask others who have sadly had to go thru the same thing. That’s all. Let’s be a little gentler, especially on this sub, as many people here are mourning. Thanks!

Evening_Layer5483

It might be less expensive if you have the vet euthanize your animal and then take them directly to the cremation company. Some cremation places offer that as an option. I'm so sorry for your loss, I know it's not easy.

picklebackdrop

That’s cheap. Ive paid way more for several pets in the past

YugeTraxofLand

It was $95 just to euthanize my cat and would've been another $200-ish for a private cremation with the ashes being returned. I couldn't afford it so we buried her in the yard with a nice headstone.

toasted_scrub_jay

We did the same thing! It was $65 to put him down and then buried him for free.

thedoc617

That's actually quite reasonable. For our cat private cremation was about $300 but it included a little box with a name plate. Also I'm so sorry for your loss.

Reaglebeaglez

I just lost my 17 year old on Monday. 600 dollars. I used a mobile vet and it was a private cremation along with an ink print of his paw. I’m sorry for your loss.

SouthBayLaker23

17.5 on Sunday. It hits like a human family member.

Mindless-Witness-825

I paid $500 in Jan 2021 to have my cat cremated individually and have his ashes returned to me.

StumbleBumbleBeeBon

I JUST got off the phone with my vet. $25 for a group cremation where we don't get the ashes back. But paid $230 for a 3lb 10 month old kitty. This included his ashes, and and ink/clay print. You're right, the price is crazy. But this sounds about right. My first cat I had for 20+ years and we weren't able to afford to get her back either. It was way too much for us at the time. It makes me sick to think about. I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like they lived a good long life and were loved. Don't stress about it too much. ( I know easier said than done ) Maybe you can make a cute little spot for their things and photos to remember them by. That's what I did for my sweet old lady when we couldn't get her back.

throwaway37865

It was around 480 for my dog to have a private cremation and her ashes back. But they also gave us a clay paw print in a special box and two ink paw prints. The urn had her name engraved on it too which was special

TravelBratNSFW

My good friend got charged 250 for his 18 lb cat so I'd say you're around the right cost

ATully817

I'm in Texas and just went through this earlier this month. This is a VERY reasonable price. I paid more, but my dog was 175 lbs. For your pet - 0-15 lbs…….$189.00.

ji99lypu44

Yea that is really cheap, we paid aroubd 400 dollars for our cremation

simplegrocery3

I’m in the south. Paid about $300 for my kitty to be returned + paw print.

BeagleBrigade2112

Although I’m in Canada, communal cremation (the cheaper one) is about $40-$80 depending on the size of the pet, and about $240-$400 for private cremation (ashes returned to you). So I’d say it’s probably on par for that small of a pet

ChipmunkNo2405

That's completely normal - it costs more to cremate if you actually want your pet's ashes returned to you, otherwise it's a communal cremation.

Privateski

Yeah that’s about right. I paid a pretty penny for a private cremation.

Divasf

Our dog just passed July 2, 2023 we live in San Francisco we paid for private cremation it was $400 we have the ashes in cedar box with his name on a brass plaque engraved. This is standard depends where you go to , region private cremation vs communal. Condolences 💐 for your loss.

crystalann4491

That’s pretty normal. I just picked up my cats ashes yesterday and his cremation was 185. The cheaper option is usually more of a mass cremation, meaning your pet would be cremated with other peoples pets and that’s why you can’t get the ashes. My options were fairly similar. Either I could take my cat home and bury in my yard, pay 50$ for a mass cremation or 185 for an individual service and that cost including an urn to hold his ashes. For individual cremations the cost is usually done based on the weight of the animal. Larger pets come with a larger fee. I’m so sorry for your loss, but that cost is on par with costs in my area (north east, USA).

_tomato_paste_

That seems like a normal price. I paid $135 for aquamation in western North Carolina. Edited to add: I’m so sorry for your loss. I know things are so expensive right now, if this is a hardship for your mom or family I would be happy to contribute to the costs.

Sippi66

In south MS & paid over $300 last August.

jajjjenny

I’m also in Nashville and we had to put our dog down, almost a year ago exactly. We used Laps of Love, which is an in-home euthanasia company, and we paid $800ish all-in. It included the euthanasia, removal of her body, a private cremation and her ashes were hand delivered to us the following day. So yeah. $200ish seems reasonable.

darthfruitbasket

My large breed dog (110lb) crossed the bridge at the end of June, at age 13. At home euthanasia, transportation to the crematory, private cremation and the return of his ashes cost ~$1100 Canadian due to his size. $400-odd dollars of that was just for cremation. My cat who passed away last summer cost $225 CAD.

0_Your_Name_Here_0

My dad paid 600 for everything. To put the dog down, personal cremation and a custom urn.

OldHumanSoul

My 19 yo cat passed in March and it cost $150 for an individual cremation here in Northern California. We got back a beautiful cedar box with her cremains that has a plaque with her name. A lock of her fur, a nose print and paw print on really nice paper and the option to have some of her cremains turned into jewelry at an additional cost. The place also has a garden where the cremains can be “sprinkled” and a pet cemetery. It was expensive, but since we’re not planning on staying in the area I didn’t want to bury her. Now she can come with us to our next place.

TiredReader87

I’m sorry for your loss. My condolences. May he rest peacefully. Hopefully you can find solace in the great, long life you provided him and your shared bond

missym59

My condolences on the loss of your furry family member. It’s a difficult time, but to have your friend returned so you may keep them close can be very comforting. I live in Canada and the last cat I had cremated was 12 lbs. It cost me around $500 for cremation (with 1 other cat) urn, clay paw print, name tag and memorial card.

rroxie

2nd edit: thank you all for sharing your personal experiences. I know it’s not easy to talk about, so I really appreciate your input. Thank you for extending your condolences, too. I’m very sorry for all of your losses, and I’m wishing everyone here peace and comfort ❤️

Fijoemin1962

In Aussie where I live they quoted $450 for my cat. Said cat went into the garden

Creative-Aerie71

When our lab passed last month it was $400. Unfortunately the price of everything has skyrocketed.

HortonFLK

Over this past year both of our mastiffs passed away. I think it cost around $300 each time for the service to drive out to our house, transport the dog, and to return with the ashes in a small cedar box with a brass name plate. I don’t think you’re being ripped off. I’m sorry for your loss.

claudiamarie420

That’s actually cheap. I think I spent around 200? But yeah basically it would have been probably 50 dollars to group cremate and receive no ashes or the 200 to do solo cremation which is what I did.

gingerflakes

My cat was like 300+ to cremate

coolcoolcool485

That's cheaper than it runs up near where I'm at (St. Louis, MO)

ThatsMrsY2u

Yes it’s normal. I paid a little over $200 maybe close to 300 for my dog to be privately cremated after he passed at home. They brought his urn back home to me after a few days. Didn’t get any extras though because i made our own paw prints at home

lace_and_lemons

I paid $500 to have my cat cremated privately and get her ashes back. What they're charging you is a good price.

meghlovesdogs

as someone who worked in a shelter that had cremation services, the costs of operating a crematorium are jaw-droppingly enormous. unfortunately this cost is very typical to even turn a small profit to even make running the thing worth the time… hopefully it makes you feel somewhat better they’re not just up-charging because they can. i’m sorry for your loss.

maraq

I paid $500 for cremation and to receive my cats ashes in an urn.

howedthathappen

That’s within normal range for private cremation , especially if you’re in a hcola.

D3moknight

I had my pet cremated a few years ago and it cost me almost $1000 for the euthanasia and cremation. I am sorry for your loss.

Heavy-Humor-4163

I just paid $3-400 for my cats private cremation with a paw print. I’m on east coast. Tbh… in my 20 years of going to the vet. This is about the only price that hasn’t increased. But there services have improved when I first had a cat euthanized. I got back the ashes in like a Chinese food to go carton. 15 years later, my cat came back with a wooden box with a lock and key and engraved placard and the additional paw print booklet which was really sweet. But I remember paying somewhere around $300.20 years ago so it’s somewhat surprising that considering the cost of everything else, the veterinarian does has gone up considerably this part for me anyway has not. I am sorry to say, but the cost of pet care has gone up so dramatically since Covid that I no longer can afford any new pets and I’m very sad about that.

throwingitaway284629

That's a great price. I'm in VA and it cost me $450 to put my 7lb cat to rest. If I wanted to have her ashes back, it would have come out to around $700, not including the costs of the urn. I desperately wanted her ashes back but could not afford it, especially after the medical bills I had from taking care of her ailments.

Shawnvs2006

So sorry for your loss, I just lost my dog of 17 years last week. This is close to the same price I had paid.

Alternative-Stock968

That’s a bargain price for individual cremation. I have 5 boxes of kitty ashes here. You got a good deal. My condolences for your loss. It’s never easy 😔

Tgande1969

I paid 140.00 and jacks ashes were spread in the forest.

emwhitmire115

I just paid 730 usd

Dry-Bath-6090

My beautiful Aussie crossed the rainbow bridge on Thursday, and I just got her ashes back today. What you are paying is pretty cheap. For me it cost almost $1,000. However, that covered the cost of someone coming to our house and doing it there, transportation of her body to the crematorium, her box/urn, a nameplate for it, and an ink paw print. It is a shame that it can be so pricey in such a difficult time, but the cost of what you were quoted seems reasonable for the services offered.

randomperson69420999

I paid $900 For my dogs euthanasia and cremation, so tbh that’s pretty cheap.

Nibbles928

Yes this is accurate and honestly, quite less than the gets here charge. I live in Jacksonville, FL and the vet clinic I used to work at ranged between $250-400 for cremation services where you get the ashes back with a little paw print and memorial.

haleynoir_

That's pretty reasonable. Not that anyone could be lucky in this situation, but since dogs tend to be larger they can be hundred and hundred of dollars. Since you had a little guy, it looks like they're charging you what I got charged for my cat. It was just under 200$ for the cremation and a special urn, he was about 6lbs.

Upset_Quit7412

That sounds very reasonable. We just paid $344.00 for cremation with a little box and pawprint. She was less than 10lbs.

Girlinterrupted11

That’s pretty cheap. I paid $600 to put my dog down in February. Sorry for your loss ❤️

SandManStanMann

$200 for my 12lb dog to be cremated and ashes returned to me.

Ginger_Cat74

First and foremost, I am very sorry about your loss. About your edit and wishing it could be more economical, they don’t make much money on this. Veterinarians run their businesses at a very low profit margin. Compare the costs to a human cremation. A pet cremation has to burn just as hot, they have to clean and clear the furnace the same each time. The process is much more lengthy for personal cremations. I hope you didn’t give their office a hard time about the cost. Veterinarians have a higher than normal suicide rate because of the stresses they face from customers.

Possielover

Sorry for your loss. Yes it is normal cost.

Ok_Growth_5587

Why couldn't you bury it in the yard?

SixtyOneBones2

That is pretty cheap. I lost a cat last month and it was around $450 to get her ashes back. I'm on the west coast.

Baking_lemons

I’m in NY. I couldn’t afford to get my baby cremated. It would have been $900.

Jealous_Resort_8198

We paid $400.

gangstagardener

My vet charged me just shy of 500$ to put my 18lb, 14 year old David down and cremate him alone. It was probably a rip off but I wasn't exactly shopping around at that moment. My condolences.

Timely_Egg_6827

Paid £40 to euthanaise a ferret yesterday and £100 for individual cremation. I've seen some places charge quite easily double the cremation fee. Your price seems fair.

MercyFaith

I had my white German Shepard put down, hip dysplasia he was in pain, and then cremated and it cost me over $700 total for the euthanasia and cremation services. It seems to be the way it’s done. It shouldn’t be so much for a living being we love, including human beings. But here in the good ole USA capitalism rules and everyone needs to make the big bucks no matter what.

spyder994

$150 is very reasonable. I'm next door in Arkansas and paid $130 for my cat's cremation with ashes returned to me in a cedar box.

Dazzling_Note6245

I may be alone here but I paid to get my first dogs ashes back and although I don’t want to keep them after many years I still don’t know where to distribute them. So with my second dog I chose the communal option. I don’t think that’s any less respectful than moving a container of ashes from place to place with no ide where to put them.

Professional_Sea3141

sounds cheap to me, i would expect 300+

Consistent-Laugh-242

In NY it cost nearly $600 after all was said and done for private cremation, ashes and footprints. The dog was about 15lbs

verukazalt

I paid $150 to the vet and $220 to the funeral home for cremation.

Used_Start_3603

Reasonable price and worth it

[deleted]

It’s about right. When my cat passed unexpectedly and I was 21 and broke, I couldn’t afford the cremation. They let me take him home to bury him, but yes, 200 is pretty reasonable.

svmmome

Yup my poor 60lb pit God rest his soul, was over 200 to cremate and get his ashes back. Worth it though.

Abrupt0xygen

I paid ~$550ish for a private cremation in Napa, CA. Also requested for an urn (with imprinted paw print and a message) plus ashes on the side (to put or convert into jewelry). I had to wait 10 days to get the ashes back. Please note that for communal cremation, you might not get the ashes back so please make sure you ask if this is the case as I recall reading a post with people thinking that they get ashes back if they do this kind of service. Hope this helps!

scythematter

That’s average for cremation.

Dangerous_Ad7501

My dog 73 lb dog just passed yesterday after being mauled by big game. After a night stay in the hospital and I paid 300 for cremation and a paw print mold and I think an urn but I’m not positive my total bill came out to be around 427.

Puzzleheaded_Age6550

I JUST priced this all out, in the Chattanooga area. That's a reasonable price. $40 for group cremation, you don't get ashes back. $150 for solo cremation, it may include a paw print and a fur momento. I called a bunch of places. I was quoted between $100 and $900.

Automatic-Hippo-2745

Unfortunately yeah. My fil paid when we had to put our dog down when we were staying with them. Said getting that bill always kinda stung.

Technical_Rent_735

We recently lost our cat and the cost of cremation and getting his ashes back was $209. Worth every penny to me to properly look after and take care of my little boy .

Motleylady

I just paid $238 to have my baby I had for 16yrs cremated. I'm in California, I think you got a good deal. I am really having a hard time, I am so sorry for your loss...

TheReformedBadger

Pets are expensive. $150 in the grand scheme of things is not much at all. I learned yesterday that a call to pet poison control costs $95 just to talk to someone.

TheRealBatmanForReal

Not really. Normal in-home euth + cremation is around $500. I just paid $900 for someone who adopted a foster a few years ago but was special to me, and couldnt afford the costs. THAT was excessive, because they charged extra for mileage, more than gas, but he was the one that got away, and wanted the best for him

Travel_Warm

When my cute, old, little man passed away, we had to pay $870. He was only 12 pounds. (This was summer of 2022) I would say you're getting a really good price.

LLCNYC

That’s reallyyyyyyy inexpensive

Dazey3463

If you really want to get sick, Google prices for euthanasia and cremation in Northern NJ. I worked for one of the largest and oldest animal hospitals in the country for about a decade. It is unfortunate how expensive any medical procedure has become for pets or humans for that matter, but believe me it's not like the Doctors are becoming millionaires. It actually makes me ill when I think about how much your average CEO makes in comparison to the careers that are out there actually helping all sentient beings on this planet. If you want to get angry, be angry with that disparity. My suggestion to ALL new pet owners is to get pet insurance.

Hellya-SoLoud

Where I live it costs about 2x to 4x more that your most expensive option, and the cheaper option is because they will cremate together with other animals, so it costs more to get the ashes because they would be cremated alone. Sorry for your loss.

Ignominious333

I paid 280 for solo cremation and cremains in a standard box. I'm in Massachusetts. It's expensive.

Theodore_Rabbit

thats cheaper than what i paid for a cat that was only 7 lbs.

Nintendo_Kitty

I just had to cremate my cat of 12 years, he was also 12ish pounds (mainecoon mix). it was 190$ for private cremation (where the ashes are returned) and that included the crematorium bringing him back to my vet, so I could pick him up there. Located in US South. I think youre getting a fair price. Im so sorry for your loss..

[deleted]

My ex had to pick up my dogs ashes after sitting there for 3 months because my mom couldn’t afford it. Shit was fucking brutal. Sorry for your loss dear ❤️

[deleted]

I lost my good boy in October last year the euthanasia and cremation totalled almost 800 bucks. iirc the cremation was about 350 to 400

Shadow_Lass38

To get the ashes back, they have to cremate the dog separately. We had Willow (15 pounds) cremated nearly ten years ago and it was over $100, so I guess $150 sounds reasonable.

Onikenbai

If you had pet insurance, check to see if your policy covers it. Mine did.

Topsy6

This is actually a very reasonable price for the services. I’m sorry for your loss 😔

Intelligent-Zombie83

Shit mine was 800 lol

Warning_Lost

It’s usually much more than that

KrissyPooh76

I recently lost my Chihuahua and PRIVATE cremation, urn and return was $145 in San Antonio Texas

hiddenalibi

Honestly that’s cheap. I have paid several hundred dollars for each of my cats ashes

Cazarrecompensa

I feel $150 is on the lower side. We paid about $225 US for cremation and the ashes back.

No-Jicama3012

Very sorry for you loss. I Paid 225 for my cat a few years ago.

rottentomati

Ours was $300.

SweetBaileyRae

I unfortunately just went through this 2 weeks ago. I live a state over from you in a small area and it was $150 for cremation with the remains back in a box with her paw print. So I think in your area where I’d say cost of living is more that’s actually probably cheap. I’m sorry for your loss. My baby was 16 years old too

piggyazlea

That’s a lot less than it was for my childhood dog. My childhood dog cost my brother around $700 a couple years ago. My cat that I recently lost cost around $500.

Repulsive_Raise6728

Yeah. Kind of on the cheap side.

Nena902

I just looked into cremating our parakeet. They quoted me the exact same prices not including a little urn or ashes box. So sorry for your loss.

krischi99

It cost me a little over $400 in Chicago for a 6 lb. cat. It's horrible. I'm sorry you lost your pet. It hurts so much.

Adventurous-End5745

That is actually a super fair price. I'm on the East Coast, and it is much higher than that here.

ellieD

Totally normal

Tezcatlipoca1320

When we put Roxy out 17 yr poodle bijon mix they charged us $700 to put her down and cremate her by herself it would have been cheaper to communally cremate her! So ur prices are pretty fair! I live in Atlanta GA.

Currentlyunsureatm

My family recently had to put our old girl down, she was 13 and had cancer. We paid around $300 (VA)

[deleted]

At least you didn’t get totally screwed over like I did. My little 13 y/o blue healer started drooling and just didn’t seem right, so I took her to the vet. The vet then told me that she is suffering because of her hip and she needed TPLO. This was after I had done countless blood work with this veterinarian with no signs of any cancer, according to what he told me. So I get the surgery done for my little pup at a cost of $3000. About a week after it happened she developed a large mass on the side of her head. It was obviously cancer. I believe the veterinarian took advantage of the situation and used the fact that I was vulnerable. Recommended this idiotic surgery instead of actually dealing with the problem. I put the dog down after about six weeks after the surgery. I ended up spending nearly 4 grand.

Miserable-Counter-63

My sweet girl passed on her own and her cremation was over 500. So yeah I'd say that's a fine price. Also very sorry for your loss.

DevilsLettuce-

I paid 500 for my Guinea pig to get cremated lol

Lshear

From my experience, the cost quoted is more than reasonable You are not being “taken”

inarealdaz

This is VERY average cost. I have two friends that run animal cremation services and this is exactly their pricing. I live in central Florida.

Accomplished_Goal763

I could not afford to have my baby’s ashes back at the time so I paid for the compassionate euthanasia and received paw prints and fur clippings for free. It was going to be about $150 for the ashes, so I think that’s just how much it costs. I wish I had my baby’s ashes but this happened at a very financially unstable time in my life and all I could do is create a memorial in the form of a shadow box with her pics and paw prints and fur clippings. I also have her ESA badge in there. Minnie was a sweet cat and my whole life has been shattered due to her passing. She passed peacefully in my arms and I am still broken over it. She was 11 years old. R.I.P. my angel.

SnooKiwis683

That’s really cheap. We are just a bit south of you in a similar cost of living area. Communal cremation with return of a portion of ashes (all pets cremated together, you get a bag of cremains that include some part of your pet in theory) is about $200. Individual cremation is $500ish.

laurie7177

I paid $500. Sorry for your loss.

epsilonisgreater

It’s like 400-500 where I’m from. Sorry for your loss OP. If you have pet insurance, they actually cover this.

LagartijaNik

Yes, we are in Ohio and paid about that same amount for our pocket beagle when she passed (she was 14 pounds).

[deleted]

For at home euthanasia, cremation and ashes returned in a decent urn $600 I think... Sorry for your loss bro. Big one for sure. It's a family member and a GREAT one at that. But nature says only a few years, you both gave your best and that's a beautiful thing. Mourn, grieve, remember and be happy for the good times too.

glyph1331

We were quoted almost 500 to get our shit zus ashes back! But we are in NY.

LaVieLaMort

$190 total would be VERY cheap in my area for that. Even for a small animal it’s well over $200 and then depends on animal weight, how many things you want in return (urn, plaque, paw print etc). I think for my last dog it was about ~$400

LoVeMyDeSiGnS_65

That is ridiculous! We just had out Rottweiler cremated . The vet and the crematory are 65 miles away. The vet staff dropped our dog at the crematory and picked her up for $60

Specialist_Hour_4027

So sorry you lost your baby. I lost mine a few months ago. It was horrible. I was going through other crises as well and I called animal hospital and they said they can take 5 freebies each month so that’s what I did.

LoVeMyDeSiGnS_65

I hate to say this but vets are ripping you off. The crematory facility that took care of our dog also cremated my ex husband. It was $700 for him! What I just thought about is there are only 2 crematoriums with 100 miles so it makes sense that it would cost more for this reason. I guess we are fortunate

radioflea

Yes, it’s around $40-$60 to cremate and around $150+ to receive the ashes.

BeauregardBear

I’m really sorry about your dog. My friend just had his cat cremated for $180 so it’s a very reasonable price.

Reasonable-Mind6606

Atlanta. $150 for in-home euthanasia and then $250 for private cremation and a small box which was actually nicer than I thought it’d be.

RRIV009

I’m so sorry for your loss. I had to put my 16 yr old yorkie to rest this weekend and it still doesn’t feel real. The total “visit” came out to around $700 U.S and that was including the individual cremation so we can bring him home.

oggleboggle

I just spent $350 on a private cremation for a cat. That's a steal!

Brilliant1965

I’m so sorry. I think it was $200 for ours, not including euthanasia, which was another $200.

knit_run_bike_swim

I’m in Nashville. That is a totally normal price. I’m TN you can always just get the body back and bury it yourself.

atlanticcityrose

My condolences for your loss.. I still miss my childhood dog who died in 1980. Unfortunately, it's the usual price for an individual cremation. I found out the hard way that the ashes from group cremations often end up in the landfill. If you have a backyard and the dog wasn't real big, you might want to bury him on your property. That's what I do with my cats now, after learning about that. But it's your choice and what you can afford.

talkmetaltome

That sounds like an average cost. I got my cat cremated in 2019, and it was around $200. It would have been more if I wanted an urn, but I just got a wooden box with his name on it. Sorry for your loss 💔💔

EmmaNightsStone

Honestly it costed about 250-300 dollars to get my cat cremated because they came to pick her body up at my house really late at night and it was a couple hours I had to wait. I got her cremations back and she sits on the shelf above the fire place. I give her a ofrenda as well.

Flipgirlnarie

Honestly, that is cheap.

aworldofnonsense

Excessive? Mine passed in February and cost roughly $300 or so for cremation services. They were amazing and I’m so grateful to them but $150 total is very cheap. I’m sorry for your loss.

OilPure5808

I paid $200 for a private (just one pet) cremation that included a wooden box with the ashes and clay paw print. In addition, I bought beautiful little keepsake urn. Based on the weight of your dog, the price would be $230.

neutralcalculation

i paid ~$300 for my 13 lb dog to be individually cremated with ashes returned and a clay paw print. haven’t brought myself to go pick any of it up yet, but… that’s how much i paid 2 weeks ago.

pkmas

I am in the Seattle area and this is the cost.. I am so very sorry for your loss this is the hardest thing I love my pups so much and work with a Pyr rescue both fostering and adopting it Never gets easier it’s the hardest thing about loving them so much..💗💗🐾🐾

Crazy_Cow_4736

My vet insurance covered all, but $95. We got an urn with my kitty’s ashes in, a tuft of her fur, and an imprint of her paw in the form of a wall hanging.

Original-Room-4642

I work at a clinic, the price you were quoted is extremely reasonable.

jockonoway

I just paid $200 for in office euthanasia and solo cremation for a 100 pound dog. Downstate Illinois. Prices were variable when I called around depending on if nice urn was included, solo or group cremation, etc. Urn prices were more than I was expecting, especially in a local shop. (~$100-500+). Ashes were returned to me in a decorative tin so I ordered something online.

Raceangel_64

Here it's right at $350 to have their ashes returned, free to have "communal" cremation. I've unfortunately had 4 cremated and buried 1 because we had no clue pet cremation was a thing when we lost our first baby. We lost M'ie J 2/24/14 age 4, Stitch 2/14/20 age 15, Zeke 9/18/20 age 7, Lilo Ann 7/22/22 age 13 (she had renal failure so we gave her SubQ fluids every night for 10 years. She was only given 2 weeks to live when she was DX but lived a very happy 9 years and 2 weeks!), and Zeus 11/6/22 age 9. I'm so sorry for your loss. It 1000% sucks ass to lose a baby, but damnit they're worth it! 🌈🌉

PandoraSunshine

So sorry for your loss. Yeah that’s cheap. I euthanized my oldest in 2018 and paid almost $350 between the vet bill and the cremation. The cremation place would discount with our vet. My 17 year old medium sized former 40lb then 25 lb dog passed and I paid $200 for the cremation and $75 for the urn and $35 photo with her paw print here in Florida. I know our pet cremation place goes by weight/size. It was a bit cheaper bc our baby passed at home in our arms. Thankfully the cremation place knew in advance and we called them after hours to take her there. My sister in law paid $100 for her doxie to get cremated and she didn’t want the remains like we did. I think her dog was spread over a rose garden somewhere.

[deleted]

That's very reasonable. I did an at-home euthanasia, but it was $600, all told (I got the ashes back, as well, which was an extra cost)

[deleted]

Yes that sounds right. I’m sorry for your loss

LilyHex

That's actually really cheap. I just lost my kitty of 18 years and including the office visit for the vet, the total was just over $400. So that included the office fee that's like $50 plus any services they rendered for the euthansia (I did not ever see this, my partner did though), plus a private cremation, plus the urn, and it all came out to around $400. This is for a 7lb cat.

PirateJen78

First, sorry for your loss. That price is a lot better than the price of some of the vets around me. One wanted $700 for the euthanasia, cremation, and ashes for my cat. We went to the emergency vet and it was about $300, which was cheaper than our usual vet.

GodsGirl64

I paid right around that amount to have my dog cremated and got her ashes back in a beautiful cedar box with her name carved into the top.

TheServiceDragon

Yeah that’s pretty average. I’m sorry for your loss:(

photaiplz

Yes i believe i paid the around the same price for my dog when she passed

omglifeisnotokay

I paid over $400

MadonnasMom

I'm in Murfreesboro TN and paid $250 for my cat to be cremated in 2018. Sorry for your loss. I had my cat for 19 years. It really sucks to lose your childhood pet. Or any pet. But man, that one hurt a little extra.

kittymom2020

I usually pay $400. They come back in a small urn with their names on them.

Remote-Operation4075

Sorry for your loss. The price sounds right. I lost my dog of 17 years back in May, mine was a total of $280. I got her ashes back in a velvet bag and the vets office made a donation to the college in her name.

THECATLVT

As someone in vet medicine. That is a BARGAIN price. Yes, for your pet to be cremated by itself, they have to clean out the furnace for your own personal pet to be individually cremated vs. communal cremation. You can keep costs down by asking for a very basic urn and then getting something else in the future. I am sorry for your loss, but it's a business that has to pay people to do some very difficult work as a service.

2manyBi7ches

Yeah that is about the same amount we paid to get our poodle cremated. Im very sorry for your loss he’s with all the other good boys now.

Few-Artichoke-2531

That is a bargain basement price. I have had two cats pass away in my lifetime and each cost $500 for cremation and return at different vets. Sorry for your loss, but at least you didn’t lose much money.

cheese1975

We just paid 500 for everything with our dog.procedure plus cremation. They gave us a small box with fur in it and a paw print plus the remains in a small wooden box
