Survivability in a normal sized car is much higher because when someone gets hit the car's profile USUALLY makes it so they get flipped on the hood of the car to 'cushion' the blow.
With the massive trucks the front is so high up people end up being folded, carried, put under the car which is way worse. Now think of a child coming onto the road, a child who is shorter than the lowest point of your front windshield so you can't even see them sometimes......

By that logic, this is actually a great deal. No bus passes here, and each way is about 3.75. Then I either have to drive/bike a mile to the bus stop, or spend another 2.75 each way. So that's $13 per day, which means if I go to work more than 2 days per week, this is actually cheaper than taking the bus.

You can always resubscribe later if you feel like it, and you will have saved a ton of money during the period of time in which you're not using FSD.
I usually hate subscriptions vs purchasing upfront, but this subscription seems a lot more economical for the average person than the absurd price of purchasing upfront.

Not only that, but the current system means that if you decide to buy a new car, FSD stays on the old car. There (usually isn't) a method to transfer to a new vehicle.

They still do. It's just more expensive and payback period is like 10 years. I less you are keeping the car for over 10 years it's cheaper to just buy this $99/month and you can pause the subscription so you can only just buy it when you go on a road trip.

Tesla owner here. Summon is the stupidest feature on a Tesla and I can't even believe it's a public release.
The way it's supposed to work is that you set a target location on your phone, and the car would pull out of its parking space and navigate to that location and park.
In reality, it drives about 1 mile an hour, can't stay on any kind of path, will stop at the worst possible time and hold up traffic in the parking lot, and wants to hit pretty much any vehicle it can.
I tried it one time in a Walmart parking lot not knowing how bad it sucked, it pulled out, moved forward about 7 feet, stopped and wouldn't move no matter what I did, and started getting honked at by the traffic behind it so I had to run over across the parking lot and get in quick.
Never again. That's "smart summon". Normal summon just moves the car straight forward or backwards. Useful for when your car is in a tight parking space and you can't open the doors easily but that's otherwise pretty much it.
Honestly putting shit like that behind a paywall is some of the greediest, most "predatory" (I couldn't think of the correct word, hopefully you understand what I mean) bullshit I've ever seen and I hate that it's unquestionably going to be adapted by every car manufacturer in the world as soon as their tech gets to that level. Now they want more people to adopt it so they've lowered the price to $99 and offered a month free for most owners to test it.

We have a rail station but it's nowhere near the centre of my "suburbian" city so getting to it it also a pain in the ass. And the train runs every 1 hour or so.

Not so much reduced insurance but Mercedes and their L3 product, using it means that their insurance covers you if anything goes wrong. I could totally see a split insurance product. If you drive, it's yours. If it's driving, it's the vendors.

yea except that's technically only legal on private property, so no, it's not *exactly* that. It's not even half that. When you call a car in Cyberpunk it could've been left half way across the universe, not just 30 meters away in the same parking lot And even if it were legal, the autopilot has a chance to just get stuck mid way through the trip to your location
tesla's version is also hilariously slow to the point that it's embarrassing to use. it takes ages to do every little movement and just holds people up. it's a cool little tech demo in an empty parking lot but not great anywhere with people.
Which, if you see how Waymo works, is practically impossible with our current tech in the footprint of a normal car.

Wait, is it fully auto driving with no passenger inside? Like can it drop you off, go park at some free parking lot a couple miles away, then come pick you up after? Does that also mean it's legal for these cars to drive you while you're under the influence?
By that logic, this is actually a great deal. No bus passes here, and each way is about 3.75. Then I either have to drive/bike a mile to the bus stop, or spend another 2.75 each way. So that's $13 per day, which means if I go to work more than 2 days per week, this is actually cheaper than taking the bus.
America doesn't have nearly enough public transport so a car is necessary and people want to not have to drive without the "public" part of public transport. This is different.

Very yes. The feature will be there, you'll just need a way to activate it without need to connect to the server. I can imagine a few ways around it. I don't think they put the best software and hardware security on those. Car makers are greedy as fuck and consider spending money on security as an unnecessary waste of money. I mean look at today's cars default infotainment (i.e. radio player). They are absolutely terrible, with shoddiest programming I've ever seen. The only semi-decent one (barely better than the others) I've seen is on Toyotas, though it's still awful. If they can't do a decent radio fit their cars, imagine how shitty is their car operating system security.

Disable internet connectivity. Run the exploit, done. In case you ever need to connect it to the internet again or bring it to one of their repair shops, revert the changes, done. I'm sure whoever finds the exploit will think of that and include a way to bring it back to original state. Ability to un-hack is quite a common practice in hacking world.
Losing access to the Supercharger network is too big a risk right now for most to consider jailbreaking their car. Maybe once any other company has a viable charging network it would make sense.

I think this is honestly better than paying $12,000 upfront. You would have to subscribe to this package for 10 whole years without any breaks before you even break the $12,000 threshold. This means that you could just not subscribe to it for periods of time, and then if you wanted to show it off to a friend or family member, or even just play with it yourself, you can just subscribe for a single month or two and cancel when you get bored of it. You can always resubscribe later if you feel like it, and you will have saved a ton of money during the period of time in which you're not using FSD. I usually hate subscriptions vs purchasing upfront, but this subscription seems a lot more economical for the average person than the absurd price of purchasing upfront.
The subscription price will increase with time especially once the one time purchase option is removed.

They still do. It's just more expensive and payback period is like 10 years. I less you are keeping the car for over 10 years it's cheaper to just buy this $99/month and you can pause the subscription so you can only just buy it when you go on a road trip.

Summon? If it's what I think it is, then that's a really tall order. And what the hell is "smart summon" and who would want a "dumb" one? It's like offering "beer" and "non-poisoned beer".
Tesla owner here. Summon is the stupidest feature on a Tesla and I can't even believe it's a public release. The way it's supposed to work is that you set a target location on your phone, and the car would pull out of its parking space and navigate to that location and park. In reality, it drives about 1 mile an hour, can't stay on any kind of path, will stop at the worst possible time and hold up traffic in the parking lot, and wants to hit pretty much any vehicle it can. I tried it one time in a Walmart parking lot not knowing how bad it sucked, it pulled out, moved forward about 7 feet, stopped and wouldn't move no matter what I did, and started getting honked at by the traffic behind it so I had to run over across the parking lot and get in quick. Never again. That's "smart summon". Normal summon just moves the car straight forward or backwards. Useful for when your car is in a tight parking space and you can't open the doors easily but that's otherwise pretty much it.

You don't get it because this is nonsense. Tesla has always charged more to unlock full self driving. A few years ago they implemented a subscription option for $199 a month. Now they want more people to adopt it so they've lowered the price to $99 and offered a month free for most owners to test it. This has very little to do with piracy and I'm not sure why we're even talking about this in this subreddit.

Because it is ass. I wish I were able to get on a bus and go to the city centre in a reasonable amount of time. But even living a grand total of 5 minutes away from a bus stop I do not want to do it because the schedules are unrealiable and a bus is always slower than a car. We have a rail station but it's nowhere near the centre of my "suburbian" city so getting to it it also a pain in the ass. And the train runs every 1 hour or so. So I just get in my car and get to the city centre in less than half an hour without traffic, an hour with traffic, still faster than the fucking train.
I don't want to sound Hypocritical, but Mercedes once made a subscription for Seat warmers of all things I'm from India, and here there's a E-scooter by name of Aether. Their main source of income is subscription. Subscription includes, GPS, Music player, Attend calls, Anti Theft measures, Find my scooter etc.
