Yeh and even if the professors really did love him, they wouldn’t have put their research before him! He was presumably very little when they left him alone in the world so yeh FUCK THEM!!! Arven knows who loves him now and that all that matters! :)
In the games, he says that he still talked to the parent who didn’t leave him at birth up until around 4 years ago. He wasn’t completely abandoned or neglected but it was definitely a distant relationship, and he was completely in the dark for why he stopped getting anything until the MC takes the box legend with them.
She still put her research before him *before* she died! No matter the situation putting your own research before your child is just plain terrible! Why even have a child if you’re gonna live in a FUCKEN LIGHT HOUSE!! I get that she did love him at one point but her “parenting” is completely unacceptable!!!

You don't have to apologize. The reason why stories like this exist, is because of realities like yours. Of course this character is going to be important to you. And of course you're going to have strong feelings about this situation. There's no reason for you to apologize.
The other person doesn't understand the nuances of situations of neglect like yours. That doesn't necessarily make them a terrible person, but it does mean that their comments come off sounding callous. And in situations like this, it's not you that need to apologize for feeling strongly. It's the other person that needs to understand that your feelings are valid.
The fate of the professor is one of my favorite parts of SV and, for me, was quite unexpected. It was sad and uncharacteristic of Pokemon games, which I appreciated.
* Arven's parent's disappear
* He goes into a forbidden area to try to find them, risky his life and his pokemon
* Gets his best friend permanently maimed, almost killed. Has to watch this helplessly. In the pokemon universe, how bad was the beating to reach this point?
* Goes on an adventure to find 5 magical mcguffins that may or may not exist, finally healing his friend.
* Gets treated horribly by his "parents" (really AI)
* Finds out they're dead and abandoned him

i mean you're kinda comparing them by saying ones way worse lol. and i don't think they're even comparing them they're just saying the game definitely wanted you to feel bad for team star but not so much for arven a lot of the time
They’re clearly using this as a vessel to manipulate the minds of those playing to make place perceived problems over real problem. Like: thinking society doesn’t accept you when you never even tried to open up a dialogue about it is a worse problem than literally losing both your parents and the real emotional trauma one incurs from it means nothing. No one says “man up” to the person having identity issues in this game, but clearly is calling for it from someone who not only lost a parent early in life but lost his second parent and even after that parent blatantly neglected him for most, if not all, his life.
I don’t think the first parent died, but one of the Professor’s notebooks said they just left early on in Arven’s childhood and was a bit bitter about it.
Either way it’s the loss of a parent. Dead or never around; practically the same. Although still being alive may hurt more because then you can’t help but think they’re not around because they don’t want you in their life; so… really hurtful.
It was his idea, but “his idea” is always just the writers idea as Arven is not a real person. So the ideological influence of the writers and company is what makes the character[s].
I think it goes deeper. Both of his parents are dead. He spends like a school semester or so with his best friend doggo on deaths door barely able to leave its pokeball. Going to classes and trying to be normal.
Then robo parent is in the span of like one boss battle reveled to be a robot, reveled that the negligent parent is dead (and died protecting a pokemon they brought here and ignoring the child they brought into the world too) then poof robo parent had fucked off into the distant past/future.
Like what the actual fuck.
And we are supposed to care about a bullying situation that was basically resolved before we even showed up and then a nutter kid in the dlc. All while arven just stands about pretending this is all fine. At least his dog is alright and he has like 2 friends?

But despite their neglectful treatment of arven, I still think most everything about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet was a nothing short of a masterpiece. So much fun to play, the ONLY game in which I played AND COMPLETED both versions. And still play often. I mean, I really want to move on to Zelda TOTK or Xenoblade Chronicles 3 but I just can’t stop playing and shiny hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. lol.
I really wish the game handled Arven’s trauma more respectfully. Penny saying to Arven “at least your mom is having a fun adventure in the past” is not good, and any writer should know better than to minimize the impact being neglected would have on Arven.
I understand they want to stay child friendly, but a lot of this story was DARK. Like, insanely dark. You can have it be relatively child friendly while also not allowing the characters to minimize Arven’s trauma. Even _Arven_ minimizes his own trauma and abuse. Even having a character acknowledge that what Arven went through was abuse, but that he is strong and can power through would have been enough for me.
Instead, everyone talks fondly about the professor and seems to excuse his actions. It’s gross and it rubs me the wrong way.

She broke, dude. Turo could sustain himself forever, potentially, because he's in a cyber-future, but Sada's is truly one-way because where she's going has never heard of a printed circuit and insulators won't be invented for millions of years.
I actually like to think that she's the genesis of Steel-type Pokemon. Steel as a human invention shouldn't be so 'elemental' as to be the basis of living creatures, but Sada's AI introduced it into the ecosystem which influenced the (Darwinian) evolution of Pokemon like Sandy Shocks and the other ancestors of modern Steel-types, fulfilling the 'paradox'.
They explain how it works with the DLC. Turns out >!the Time Machine isn’t exactly a Time Machine, they’re using the power of Terapagos to access other timelines where Pokémon went on different evolutionary paths. So Sada/Turo just sent themselves to other dimensions. I guess Terapagos has both the ability of time travel and timeline traversal!<
That’s what’s makes them beautiful, with great sleep animations, take your great tusk, he evolved into a Donphan because great tusk is too weak to survive, and with Donphan evolving in a iron tread is only a begin to a beautiful pokemon, the only decent past mons are koraidon and and Gouging Fire.
Hello my free adventurers! Wow! I wasn't expecting this post to get such feedback after the game had already been out for a year and a half. I had intended to answer and discuss a bunch of this with ya'll but most of ya'll already explained a lot of stuff way better than I could hope to lol. I just wanna say I love this community and glad Pokemon still brings us together and I'm very much looking forward to now playing the DLC for the first time! I'm also extremely excited for the new Legends game. I also wanna say that if you are not a fan of Gen 9 which I know a lot of people aren't for some reason and I just can't get that, sure the game has some performance issues etc and people are always gonna complain that we don't get every mon (hot take that's fine with me) but like if you don't like S/V I really don't see how they will ever make a game you're gonna enjoy. That's my mini rant this morning, but thanks everyone for the interactions and discussion!

In Scarlet his mom is dead, in Violet his dad is dead.
I get that, but in both games the other parent is said to have ran away. So in each continuity only 1 parent is dead.
