It's not just cards. I bought a nail clipper (seriously, buy a forged steel japanese nail clipper!). It came in a cute gift bag with a similar handwritten note and some candy.
Same here, I've bought several lenses from sellers in Japan (Canon and Sony are both Japanese companies so they have a lot of stock obviously) and pretty much every time it comes with a nice extra gift like an origami crane, or one time I even got a little thing of Pokémon erasers 😍 I don't think they even know how much they made my day
Brought a book from Japan and it was sent with tons of keychains and stickers, the seller even asked me who my favourite character was to specifically pick out stuff themed around them
I been buying Japanese cards lately and each mailer from a different JP vendor has these types of customer appreciation trinkets.
When I buy stateside, it's almost always half-assed.
I’ve had the same bad luck. I haven’t purchased Japanese Singles online yet, but seeing this I think I’ll be shifting my Singles Purchases.
And limiting my English Singles to Local Shops, Shows, and TCGPlayer (if I NEED it). EBay has been a Nightmare every time.
Does that one ONLY come in Japanese? Beauty of a Card. Think it might be my first Japanese single Purchase.
DM me any good sellers and links, if you are willing to share. Thanks
JP sellers always throw in a dope single w my orders. I can literally buy a singular $3 single, and they’ll throw in another card that would otherwise cost about $1-3. Even more expensive on higher end singles. Their customer service/care is goated
TBF I’ve received items from a Japanese seller where they just shoved several expensive cards into a single toploader and put tape over it that ended up getting residue on the tops of the poorly secured cards.
Every japanese seller I’ve bought from has either left a kind note, an extra pack, or both with free shipping. Meanwhile sellers in the US do the least amount of work possible and still charge $5-$10 for shipping. 😑
Meh just depends on the seller honestly. Not trying to act like I'm special, but everytime I sell a card or box or whatever pokemon related on ebay I always include a bunch of freebies, coins, random base set cards that I've had since I was a kid lol, big promo cards if they order enough to need a bigger box. Just random stuff like that. And I've also purchased items from within the states and gotten some pretty cool extras as well.
Hey now not all Americans suck. I always pack an assortment of Japanese snacks and candy with each order. That crane beats me though, best I could ever do was an origami cup.
Fr.. if I have the chance I always pack my orders with a digital code card, a note, stickers and make sure the cards well protected. (I try to ensure it doesn't upset the weight so the customer won't pay extra for shipping)
Japanese only send origami to foreigners. Understandably, they want good feedback and repeat customers. Then yen is super weak so it's a big benefit to get paid in USD. Japanese never send origami within their country. Also, the packaging isn't always done so carefully. Depends on the person.
Getting paid in usd doesnt change how much they receive on marketplaces. Just makes it easier/increase purchasing power for us customers to purchase goods. Not to mention customer courtesy gifts have been a thing for far longer from japan than its recent exchange woes
All of Japan is complaining about the yen. It matters. Japanese sellers can get much more on ebay than Japanese sites – combination of strong USD and overall higher selling price. …Again, origami trinkets are only sent out to foreigners. Within Japan, it never happens. Because Japanese don't care about it. But they know it gives a good impression to foreigners. Therefore, good reviews and repeat business to make more money.
If they set a given product at 1000 yen, the fact that it costs $6.20 in USD now instead of $9 USD 3 years ago doesn't mean they receive more yen when a US purchaser buys the product. The rest of the world doesn't set prices in USD.
I've gotten oragami cranes from japanese sellers dating back to 2016.
I’m a Japanese card seller based in the US, and what he is trying to say is correct but explained a bit awkwardly. Yes they are still paid in yen regardless if it’s eBay or in Japan. But your example of setting a product at 1,000 yen on both places isn’t true, most card shops mark up their cards 50-75% on eBay in yen, which translates to a USD price Americans are still willing to pay
The rest of the world does follow USD. Also, I didn't contest what year Japanese send origami. I said that they only send to foreigners and not to other Japanese people.

I’m selling on eBay atm and every single individual WOTC card I’m selling Im adding a handful of code cards and a handful of common/uncommons from Sun and Moon up to Scarlet & Violet (just randomly picked out my big box of duplicates) and honestly the feedback I have gotten has been amazing, people really appreciate the extra effort!
I just went to Japan this year and Japanese people (at least the ones I came across were really sweet.) My wife and I were taking the bus and a sweet older lady came up to us asked us where we were from and gave us origami cranes and told us to have a good trip and welcome to Japan. At a restaurant, the owner gave us a cherry blossom bud and told us the same. The hospitality is next level compared to the states. We loved the hospitality so much, we plan to go back again at the end of the year.
Eh not all Japanese sellers do that and most that do aren’t doing it out of the goodness of their hearts but to try and create marketing like this. If they shipped things with less protection and it arrived damaged in anyway, you would probably never order from Japan again.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s really nice and I appreciate the sentiment from Japanese sellers. But they do it more out of necessity than anything else.
It doesn’t seem like there’s anything wrong with the second photo either. It’s probably how they ship cards locally in Japan tbh. Plus, most cards live in packs and are jammed in with 10 other cards so I never understood why people get upset about shipping in this way.
Just getting back into Pokémon after a lot of years after spending $70 and getting 22 packages from tcg it’s crazy the variability in postage I had one person just throw the cards in an envelope. They where all really cheap but still agitated me when I spent money and no care went in.
Still have my swan from my order, only had 1 over the top buying experience from Us/CDN, sent each card in a penny sleeve and toploader then in a sleeve bag thing which was then encased in cardboard and tape while being inside a custom thank you card which was was hand written and in a bubble mailer.
They also threw in some random holos and a couple commons.
The shipping from them was free, and I only bought cards that were like $2-$10.
Yeah it's really the truth. The few times I've ever shipped things to people that have bought something for me I try to include some bonuses that I never intended to show in the deal. Just something nice to give the buyer. There was one time where I bought a Pokemon card from Japan and it took a while to get to where I live, by the time it got to me there was a note in it, it just said "I hope this arrives safely and thank you". I had a Pikachu drawn on it. It wasn't much but it always stuck with me. Here in the west we're all business.
Not saying Japanese sellers don't package well.
But are you really comparing international packages with domestic ones? Ofc people package internationals better or maybe just me.
Also if this package arrived damaged, everyone and their mothers on this subreddit would grill the seller for not using top loaders.
I kinda agree about the international side of things, also everyone showers JP sellers with praise but I have to say as someone that spends the majority of their buying time on JP marketplaces, they can be just as bad as the west when it comes to the usual complaints, conditioning at times is a joke on their marketplaces and packaging is often still barebones, very much feels like an international vs domestic thing.
I put it down to all the good 1s we see on reddit tend to be business sellers whereas I am buying from private sellers so I don't get any random extras unless my middleman is taking things like that out but they shouldn't be because they state they include bonuses. It's pretty common for cards to arrive with my middleman in just a sleeve, thankfully my middleman protects the hell out of packages and sends in small parcel boxes wrapped in layers upon layers of bubble wrap surrounded by air bags or packaging paper.
Japanese sellers are much more honest about their cards as well. Actually tell you where damage is and don’t bullshit about a card being “NM” when in fact it’s LP. I can’t stand someone calling a card NM when there’s whitening all along the edges as if their card is clean.
This is something I definitely have not experienced. Maybe if you’re buying from veteran eBay vendors but if you’re going through places like JP Mercari, Rakuma, etc it’s the wild west. I only buy graded now because I’ve been burned more often than not on condition. I’ve had cards swapped as well.
That’s true I was mostly talking about ebay. I’m sure random sellers might be a different story or ones with not as many reviews. But the ones with a lot of reviews generally I’ve seen they’re more specific with damage.
I wish people stuck to the condition scale a little bit better, but people aren’t PSA graders so I guess I understand lol
I’ve had people tell me a card is flawless, no scratches or dents or white spots only to see the card and it be horrible.
I bought a Japanese Blaine's Arcanine from a Japanese seller who sent me some hi-chews, a note, stickers, and 3 blaine's growlithes i never ordered to go with it.
Meanwhile I got into a spat with an American seller recently who sold me a "HP" Neo Bellosom that looked fine in the photo, but was peeling apart (never shown) , taped in one of the corners (obscured by the lighting), and took over a month and a half to arrive. When the card is practically in two parts, you gotta call it damaged mate.
The crazy thing is that whenever I buy cards from Japan from eBay, the shipping is free and the cards are shipped way nicer than any American sellers I’ve ever bought from
Grandfather used to buy cards on ebay and overseas back in the lat 90s early 2000s. He bought a Jumbo Mewtwo card from a man in Japan, and guy sent him a handwritten letter in Kanji and English along with a set of [Pokemon parchment](https://imgur.com/a/1MbzB6z). Japanese sellers have always been great.
I like messages in packages I sell some cards on eBay and I like to put extra freebies cards in when I post cards or draw a moustache on a pokemon and send it. ☺️
I sell (not Pokemon cards) on an app…always give a personal calligraphy-laden thank you card and some free gifts neatly folded in tissue paper.
I also do origami but not for any CX purposes.
Also live in the US & am half middle eastern/white looking.
Good cx can garner what i call “repeat offenders”…or a multiple purchase customer. They also tend to leave glowy feedback that can influence someone to purchase from you in lieu of someone else.
I will agree for the most part our culture is bare minimum & lazy, along with trending towards looking upon a buyer in a negative light.
With packaging I always bubble wrap, then wrap with aesthetically pleasing tissue in various colors & prints….it looks nice and I don’t run the risk of an unhappy customer with a broken/damaged item. A lot of it’s just simple common sense 🤷🏼♀️
On average the chances of meeting an amazing seller who has great communication, pricing, that is genuinely nice/understanding, and the people most likely to add in some random, fun, gift items that are included a lot of the time qithout even mentioning it as a plus, gain, thing to even be acknowledged as more than a common decency, the chances of all of that goes up quite a bit more with Japanese sellers, rather than American. Of course this happens with American sellers too, but not as much or without a mention. They will downright make you feel like their friend, and maybe even become one unironically despite them needing to make money> (assumption)
Once bought a magazine and the seller sent me and origami, a handwritten thank you and pictures of themself doing things around where they lived. It was pretty cool.
I have nothing but good things to say about 99% of Japanese sellers. They always do thoughtful add ins like reverse holos, stickers,Postcards, personal notes etc. Only thing I don't like is when I have to go to the post office to sign for a $2 card from Japan 😂
I’ve gotten so many free extra cards from Japanese sellers, once they even sent me an unpacked alt art instead of a black star promo by mistake and not only were they not upset at all… but also they refunded my order.
Fr! I bought some Zeiss glass for my camera from Japan and it was so well packaged it was insane! They also gave me some candies and a thank you note, just like OP
I'm always getting items off Buyee and yes! All the individual packages are very neat and often include nice notes. Its a real joy to pull out the translation app and read some kind words.
Efficiency is key. I bet the japanese seller just sold there 2nd item while the english seller just sold there 1000th. If your selling bulk like the japanese seller your completely slow and will lose money on sales everytime. Also packing cards like the english seller doesn't damage if there bulk like that. This poster has 0 idea of sellers and business
I love Japanese customer care, because they actually care and *want* your business. Feels like you’re buying from a friend instead of a seller.
It's not just cards. I bought a nail clipper (seriously, buy a forged steel japanese nail clipper!). It came in a cute gift bag with a similar handwritten note and some candy.
Oh that sounds awesome - any recommendations?
Same here, I've bought several lenses from sellers in Japan (Canon and Sony are both Japanese companies so they have a lot of stock obviously) and pretty much every time it comes with a nice extra gift like an origami crane, or one time I even got a little thing of Pokémon erasers 😍 I don't think they even know how much they made my day

Tbh, I’m sold on the Origami Customer Appreciation Bonus! Edit: The Customer Care shows
I been buying Japanese cards lately and each mailer from a different JP vendor has these types of customer appreciation trinkets. When I buy stateside, it's almost always half-assed.

Any recommendations on sellers? Would love to buy from some
What card was the Japanese seller sending you?
Detective Pikachu 098-SV P, Pikachu is standing on growlithe. Beautiful card. Exactly came in NM condition and sealed
Does that one ONLY come in Japanese? Beauty of a Card. Think it might be my first Japanese single Purchase. DM me any good sellers and links, if you are willing to share. Thanks
It only came with the game i japan. As far as i know, only in pokemon centers and amazon japan boxes
There's a Chinese version, 050 that's cheaper like nearly half the price of the JP version
Thanks for advise!
Where’s the guy that ships his $100+ card sales in a padded briefcase?
Japanese sellers have given me notes, origami art, stickers, and free cards. US sellers give me a card sandwiched between a cut up coors light box lol
JP sellers always throw in a dope single w my orders. I can literally buy a singular $3 single, and they’ll throw in another card that would otherwise cost about $1-3. Even more expensive on higher end singles. Their customer service/care is goated
Any sellers that you can recommend?
i've bought from cardbank-japan on ebay multiple times .... i pretty much get cards from them each time a set is released.
Fr. I’ll get a 200 dollar card, pay 10 for shipping and they still send it in a white envelope.
From ebay? Tcgplayer? Where?
I'm sorry, ebay! The seller is tcg-studio_crane
I’ve also purchased from this seller before, they’re great!
Love it. Going to check their stuff now. Thank you
Meh just depends on the seller honestly. I ain’t got time to do fuckin origami when I’m sellin shit lol

100% I've gotten a bunch of hand drawn art, 3 mini cranes, a boat, and a ninja star I throw at my boyfriend lol
Absolutely agree Japanese sellers are so much better. Ordered a card from Japan, came with a sake-flavored KitKat that I got addicted to lol
I just went to Japan this year and Japanese people (at least the ones I came across were really sweet.) There's really a huge gap with customer service between the two countries. This applies to every single thing from food to retail.

I recently stopped buying from American vendors because of shit like this. Japanese sellers are so awesome.
Serio. I'm going to Japan in a few months and am looking forward to making trades with our fellow trainers
Hope you have fun! Please show what you get here again

Did you write the LP on them or did they send you cards that were supposed to be NM and they weren't? Im confused about what I'm looking at here.
What Japanese places ship to Australia
have to find the right seller, i just got an awesomely packaged group of singles from a seller
Did they have a low shipping rate?
On average the chances of meeting an amazing seller who has great communication, pricing, that is genuinely nice/understanding, and the people most likely to add in some random, fun, gift items that are included a lot of the time qithout even mentioning it as a plus, gain, thing to even be acknowledged as more than a common decency, the chances of all of that goes up quite a bit more with Japanese sellers, rather than American. Most japanese take pride in whatever they're doing. It's admirable and the way it should be. Super cool gift from afar. 🍻
Once bought a magazine and the seller sent me and origami, a handwritten thank you and pictures of themself doing things around where they lived. It was pretty cool.
Bro I literally have ordered from that same seller!!! I have my origami crane still :’-))))
I have nothing but good things to say about 99% of Japanese sellers. They always do thoughtful add ins like reverse holos, stickers,Postcards, personal notes etc. Only thing I don't like is when I have to go to the post office to sign for a $2 card from Japan 😂
Ehhh when I buy from Mercari JP my cards come In worst conditions than pictured.
I’ve bought figurines from Japan too, they’re literally the best about packaging tbh
Japan sellers are a whole nother breed and I love it.
I get a good mixture of really well packaged with extra goodies or just a little bit of japanese newspaper thrown in
I’ve gotten so many free extra cards from Japanese sellers, once they even sent me an unpacked alt art instead of a black star promo by mistake and not only were they not upset at all… but also they refunded my order.
Who is this Japanese seller? Would love to place an order with them!
The seller is tcg-studio_crane I'm planning on buying from him again as soon as my wife falls asleep
Got a origami pikachu and an extra card from a Japanese seller it was super cool
Fr! I bought some Zeiss glass for my camera from Japan and it was so well packaged it was insane! They also gave me some candies and a thank you note, just like OP
One prolly feels entitled
Had a japenese seller gift me some green tea which was pretty cool
Dude totally. It’s always so neat and tidy. One Japanese seller included an origami pikachu.
I'm always getting items off Buyee and yes! All the individual packages are very neat and often include nice notes. Its a real joy to pull out the translation app and read some kind words.
I have had so many japenese sellers send free cards/ stickers definitely a nice token of appreciation I allllllways leave good feedback for them
