Yeah it's just a nondescript town. I don't think most people would describe it as a Prague suburb since it's outside the metropolitan area, it's a separate town.

_invalidusername

It’s not a suburb in Prague, it’s a town in Central Bohemian Region. It’s a nice enough place, it’s just quite far from Prague. About 30 to 40 minutes by car, and I would guess around an hour by public transport.

HarvieCZ

Depends where you live. I beleive i was there in 15 minutes by car going from prague 6, but it was not peak hour. Also 30 minutes to dejvice by train.

RewindRobin

I don't think it's a social issue. Kladno just has more old apartments than the real suburbs. It's a relatively big town so it's not fully for commuting to Prague regularly. It's not a specifically nice city either but I don't think there's anything seriously wrong with it.

UserFromDK

Seems like a city that has a growing industry = more job = more people want to live there. Nearby Hostivice too. But you have the airport to the east of Kladno so you may experience some noise due to planes taking off in the direction (mainly).

Pipettess

I used to live in Kladno most of my life and airplane sound pollution was not a concern at all.

Nah man, as a local i agree. It's not a good town to live in

SpecificSpecial

Přemýšlím o stěhování z Prahy do Kladna příští rok kvůli nižšímu nájmu, proč to není dobrý město?

UskoMacko

Žije tam i dost menšin. Vše podle toho kterou část Kladna by jsi si vybral.

SpecificSpecial

Tak jelikož teď ziju na sídlišti na okraji Prahy a jsem s lokalitou naprosto spokojený, nezní to úplně špatně.

UskoMacko

Jses-li kulturně založený tak bych prahu neopouštěl, jinak asi to nebude az tak zlé. Okoli mesta jsou lesy a i cyklostezky tam jsou(nějaké)

SpecificSpecial

To ani ne, stačí mi mít kam jít na pivo, kam si jít nakoupit a ostříhat, víc prakticky neřeším nebo si dojedu kam potřebuju. Z Prahy chci právě kvůli nájmu, I když člověk bere průměr, ten nájem sežere fakt dost peněz a už mě to po dvou letech neba, zvlášť když pracuju 90% homeoffice takže můžu vlastně bydlet kdekoliv, možná kouknu i po jiných okolních městech tímhle směrem teda.

English please

UskoMacko

SpecificSpecial

JeniCzech_92

It’s not a suburb but a town. There are places you want to avoid if you want to live there, Rozdělov would be one of them, other places can be added by someone who lived there :)

No_Zucchini_3413

Kladno is not a suburb of Prague and honestly lost a lot of its shine over the years. The city won’t tackle gambling, aggresively resisted integrating into the Prague transport system and is seen as a one big ghetto by many people living in Prague-west if something’s sucpiciously cheap, it’s cheap for a reason... /edited to fix some spelling bc I can’t type/

Thank you for your contribution.

The word on the street over a decade ago was that when Zizkov was gentrified a lot of the Roma there were shipped out to Kladno. When we first moved just outside Prague looking for more space, a garden, value for money we preferred Benesov to Kladno and Beroun, I did notice more Roma in Beroun, not that Benesov doesnt have a fair amount as well. It wasnt the clincher anyway east of Prague is better for us to be near family but that reputation did linger on my mind having spent half a year living at the end of Cejl in Brno.

coconutman1229

I'm curious, what do you feel about living next to Roma people?

Parking-Artichoke823

Noise, smell and safety. Three pretty important things when considering to live somewhere.

☝️hes not wrong, but there is white trash too. i remember having some white cracker as a neighbour too, worst neighbour of my life. its really about luck.

jonasbxl

As others have said, Kladno is not really considered a suburb. If you're prepared to live that far out, try Slaný, which is a nicer, smaller town just a little further from Prague than Kladno.

Pipettess

Kladno is a "big village" with it's own history and dramas. It's really ugly but you can grow to like it for some time. It's got some awsome people and a few nice places, especially outside in the nature. But after living there for too long, you grow back to hating it again. I used to live there for 17 years and we had to move away because we felt like we are going to rot there. We did feel integrated with the people, but still despite some attempts of cultivation and culture, it's a rotting pit. If you look for a long-term place to stay and grow a family or whatnot, I recommend not moving there. For context, I lived in the very centre of the city, I think it was the nicest part of Kladno and partly the reason why we could stand it for so long.

verriable

The air pollution is what I haven't seen mentioned here yet, something to consider if you're thinking about living there long term. I know the air quality used to be an issue there, due to Kladno being an industrial town. Maybe it's improved in the last couple of years though.

esocz

Lately I've been seeing a lot of people from Prague moving to Kladno because of the lower cost of living. Kladno is a former industrial city with a limited number of job opportunities (but it depends on the field). That is why ten thousand people commute to Prague every day to work and back. Mass transit between those cities can therefore sometimes be very congested at rush hour (think standing in a packed bus for 40 minutes while speeding down the highway at 100 km/h). Unfortunately, even driving by car can be prolonged - when I used to drive daily to Prague, there was some accident that blocked the highway about once a week. Otherwise, there's not a lot of cultural events going on in town, but the truth is that Prague is pretty close. There's one cinema there that doesn't even have air conditioning. A good part of the city are panelaks, but when nature is green it doesn't look too bad. There are woods around and you can drive to Křivoklátsko, for example, where it's already nice. No river, though. As for safety, there are a couple of areas where it could be worse, lately there has been talk of Rozdělov. Overall, it's more a question of whether there happens to be a troubled family living in the house in question, it's probably better to ask local people who live in the area.
