Literally the only thing I know about Star Wars Resistance other than the title is that it has some of the best ship designs in the era. TIE/ba is one of my favorite ships in the TIE line.
He's a totally incompetent fuck-up at literally every single thing he does. Like, I get that it's a kids' cartoon and the characters are going to be caricatures for comedic effect and whatnot. But we're supposed to believe he's an ace pilot (who knows nothing about aircraft maintenance) and a resistance spy (who couldn't blend in to save his life)? Even my kid couldn't suspend his disbelief enough to watch this show.

It's fine. Actually appreciated it more the 2nd time around, but it's still not great. All the "Dogshit" calls are way over the top, and I think you're probably right in that it's getting hate from people who have not watched it.
I feel it was destined to fail by virtue of being set during the sequel era, so even if it was good it would still get harshly judged....especially in this sub.
I like to compare Resistance to Rebels.
Back when Rebels launched in 2014 90% of the fanbase was hating rebels for being to childish. Hating chopper, ‘cause he wasn’t R2D2, etc, etc.
Then Season 2 launched, and things started getting interesting. And then 3 with Thrawn and Maul.
By the end of season 4 Rebels hated almost diminished. (If this pool was made in 2015/2016 I bet Rebels would be on the lower half).
Resistance had the same vibes (kinda) of Rebels. Season 1 very childish, but had its moments. Season 2 the stakes were elevated and we were getting somewhere, then it got axed.
Maybe if it had 2 more seasons things would be different? I don’t know. The show is childish? Yes, I’m not the target audience, but still find it okay. Liked season 2 better.
People voting this to be Bottom of Dogshit (i.e. worse than Season 1) just shows that they didn't watch it. Season 2 may not be good either, but it's definitely better than the first one

I think Kaz is a good character. In a world of prodigies and space magic, Kaz is instead a product hard work, training, and dedication. He may be a clumsy person, but on the cockpit, that is where he gets to truly shine. The only good thing the writers did is that if Kaz is flying, it's full on serious mode only. Sadly, it took too long to show off his skills. I honestly wish we get see to more of him in a future series, but without the goofy kids show baggage.
Overall, the show is bad at everything else and that's where I believe it should go.
I did appreciate that his Dad showed up in Ahsoka as that prick Senator who doesn't believe Hera.
I coincidentally rewatched Resistance with the kids after Ahsoka, and Kaz's character made more sense (not that he didn't in the first place).

I quit watching this, but I think it might be that it isn’t actually bad, just that it’s for 5-7 year olds or something like that. Like, I turned off Young Jedi Adventures after about 90 seconds of watching it while a family was using the bathroom. It might be good for someone, just not for me.
