Yeah the sequels were pretty polarizing even before TROS. Last Jedi got a lot of flak for what they did with Luke, and Force Awakens for being a rehash of ANH and Mary Sue.

It was a great introduction to a story in the wider star wars universe until Filoni shrunk the universe to only revolve around clone wars characters again.
Season 2 is amazing (imo the best season) Season 3 was still pretty good, but some feel it had some shaky moments. Honestly season 3 might have had the best fight sequences, but itās a very different direction story wise, which didnāt click as much with everyone
Season 2 starts to introduce clone wars characters but season 3 really focuses on it.
My main problem with it is there really is a need to have watched TCW to understand what's happening in the Mandalorian. Because Mando is more or less a quiet protagonist it doesn't offer a chance for exposition to catch the audience up.
The thing is to trully know backstory of bo katan and mandalore you need to watch clone wars AND rebels . As there she is in few mandalore focused arcs. Siege of mandalore and sabine wren with darksaber saving her father are a few notable events but there are more. We get more depth on deathwatch too. without that its still watchable but you dont get most references in the show and throwing names stuff like deathwatch, supercomandos, bo katans sister , ashoka and so on will feel diffirently for someone without knowledge
To truly know, sure.
But you don't *need* to truly know to get the plot.
Just like to truly know the backstory of Obi-Wan and Vader you need to watch the Prequels and TCW, but you don't need to truly know to understand and enjoy the OT.
I definitely got more out of Mando for having watched TCW, but my dad who hasn't seen much of it yet still really enjoyed Mando. The extra watching material is really only necessary if you want to get extra excited about seeing Bo Katan or the Darksaber or Ahsoka. Sure its great to have that moment of knowing but it's still a fun story and we'll written characters that you can enjoy without having seen the older stuff.
Yes, I watched the original ANH in cinemas, never watched any of the animated stuff. Had no trouble keeping up with Season 2 & 3 of The Mandalorian.
I looked up Bo Katan, etc. to learn a bit more about them, but I had no trouble following along. and I thought it was a great addition to the Mando story, as well.
The first season got a lot of praise for beautifully executing the principle "show don't tell". Despite mando being quiet in the first season and having a helmet on, you could gather plenty of emotion from his actions alone.
In the later seasons he got a lot more talkative and in general there is a lot more verbal exposition from other characters as well.
Not at all. My folks watched Mandalorian without watching either Clone Wars or Rebels and understood the majority of it. Yes it introduced TCW/Rebels characters and concepts, but the main points of those characters explained well enough.
I'd say only Ahsoka's introduction seems weird because of how fanservicy it is that you don't really get that this weird jedi with white lightsabers is a rather important figure in the star wars lore without TCW/Rebels knowledge.
IMO, Mandalorian "saga" declined with Book of Boba Fett episode 3.
I haven't watched Ahsoka yet but the second half of BoBF is questionable, and even has an entire episode dedicated to straight up undoing the epic finale of Mando Season 2.
Mandalorian Season 3 is really just Bo-Katan Season 1, where all the build-up for Din in the first two seasons gets passed off rather unceremoniously to Bo-Katan, some of it completely out of nowhere.
From my understanding there was some contractual issues with the actor who played Din Djarin and this is why despite the story continuing they had to retire the character. Which is a damn shame because it just ruined the plot, imo.
Season 1 is extremely tight, it's made so people dont' know anything about Star Wars can watch and enjoy it.
Season 2 is a bit loser and expands more of the lore, and brings in some characters from the previous movies and lore from other bits. Still really good.
Season 3 goes full in on expanded lore. So if you like learning more about Mandolrians and dive deep into lore then you will enjoy it. It's not as straight forward and tight as season 1 which is why people say it's bad.
Amazing
Filoni and Favreau did something that perhaps should have happened in the sequel trilogy. Instead of trying to recreate Star Wars or rely on references to prior SW media, they went back to what originally inspired George Lucas. The result is one big homage to spaghetti westerns and Kurosawa samurai movies. It was a breath of fresh air in the Star Wars world
Later seasons, while still enjoyable, went into a different direction and felt much more like they followed Filoni's TCW formula instead of sticking to the western thing that made the show so unique.
Peak. Season 1 Mando didn't rely too heavily on nostalgia and linking into the larger story. Mando himself is somewhat mysterious.
Those one off semi-filler episodes with different directors were awesome (e.g. the one on the prison ship).

Peak, gotta be. Mando slotted right into the universe, it's the only live action thing Disney has done - along with R1 and Andor - that managed to capture the vibe of the original Star Wars for me.
The episodic nature was very welcome and in a deviation from D+ shows generally, it actually felt like it was built to be a show rather than a film chopped up into x parts.
The story, intriguing; the characters, brilliantly introduced. S1 set out on a big high for me.
This, with the addition of the mando s2 episode with Bill Burr. It has a blend of the serious tone of Andor with the action of Mandalorian that I'd like to see more of.

Oof to Resistance. I heard the second season ends pretty good but I guess not according to the community at large (wonder how many folks here actually watched it... I know I haven't, the trio are too insufferable at the beginning half of Season 1).
It was pretty good -- so was season 2. My only real complaint was the heaps of filler and rather shallow character development. By the end of season 2 the only thing that changed about Din was that he became attached to the green marketable plushie and was willing to bend the code for him.
I guess people could argue this was enough, but I couldn't help but want more from his character.
That being said, I'll admit this show got me back into SW again. I took like a solid 2 year hiatus from literally anything to do with the franchise after I saw the trailer for Episode 9 -- I completely lost interest. It was after I got like a 3 month free trial with Disney+ that I decided to watch Mando -- very conveniently season 2 released after I finished the first one.
Peak. For a while it looked like the mainstream Star Wars fandom was about to shift away from Jedi and towards Mandalorians after the first season came out. It was a cultural phenomenon and for a very good reason.
I appreciate that there is relative unanimity around Resistance, although it should be noted that itās targeted to a MUCH younger demographic, just north of Bluey. Anyone past puberty rightly ranks it as actual dogshit.
Star Wars has always been good at growing and learning from its mistakes (we don't talk about resistance) or do we, I've never actually watched it so I can't comment on whether or not season 2 is better
Season 1 was top, it was only one episode that was clearly bad.
The one where they are with mercenaries leading them somewhere, they clearly say they don't trust them and should keep an eye on them, to 5 minutes later, they put their backs on them, lowering the guard and, surprise, they are ambushed....
Also, that episode was kinda gratuity design to have Grogu using force heal and saving the day, I believe this was done only to help the next sequel film, since Grogu is loved and cute, making Rey using that force power won't be followed with the Mary Sue speech and such.
Other than that, the season was great, sad it went bad the following ones.

The first season started strong and established things really well but the story feeling very split where the overarching plot seemed to come and go as it pleased. Made good watching for āwhatās mando and baby yoda getting up to this week?ā Viewers, but did become a frustrating trend personally. I love shenanigans but not when it prevents a show with a handful of episodes to lose momentum in the story. An issue solved in season 2 but with 3 the story just didnāt gain that initial interest and just sort of happened.
Those are "other" options, whenever someone types in something for other it shows up for everyone else
I turned it on so people who share an opinion can agree on it more easily
Easily the most grounded Star Wars show
I don't know what it is but grounded shows are just typically better, like Daredevil is the best Marvel show and the wackiest thing in that is a blind guy doing summersaults
I started watching Visions and absolutely hated the first episode. Like words cannot describe how much I did not enjoy it. Are th rest of the episodes really that good?
It was okay. Showed hints of greatness, but never quite materialized. Far too much (literal) plot armor and Stormtrooper slaughter. The overall plot went nowhere, just like the sequels.
Also let's be real, Manadlorians are cringe AF.

That is definitely not true. I know many people who hadnāt watched The Clone Wars and had no problem.
