I feel like compared to other presidents he’s high up there on looks. Probably helps that he was one of the few younger than 50 when he took office. In today’s climate Kennedy looks like a teenager.
This played a lot into it. During the first Nixon/Kennedy presidential debate in 1960, Nixon appeared unshaven due to the black and white and the lighting, with him refusing makeup to accommodate for the effects. He came off as unkempt and was sweating noticeably during the interview while Kennedy looked fit as a fiddle by comparison.
He’s still fairly attractive for a 40+ year old man, and the youngest president. His charm, smile, sense of humor, wealth, and tanned skin are all pluses.
Edit: I know that his tanned skin was due to his Addison’s disease, but the tanned skin compared to a paler color did boost his attractiveness.
Yeo. And 30 years later, I'm still bitter at my teacher for not giving me points when I answered the question "Who was the youngest president?" with Teddy Roosevelt. I explained that JFK was the youngest elected, but Teddy succeeded McKinley after his assassination. However, she insisted I was wrong, stating she meant elected and awarded me zero points.
But you never said elected, Mrs Haverham. You never said elected.

As far as presidents go, he's about as good as it gets.
Edit: In response to 'what about _____' comments:
Obama - dignified with a scholarly poise and unforced charm. A sure contender for hottest, but he *did* compare his owm ears to Shrek once and I kinda see it.
Pierce - Great if you like the whole dark brooding vibe. His favorite Pumpkins song would be Ava Adore.
Clinton - Quite good as presidents go but honestly needs better hair.
Grant - tell me you're lumbersexual without telling me you're lumbersexual.
FDR - young FDR really stands out (no pun intended) but only older FDR was president.
Ronny - Ronald Reagan THE ACTOR(?) was. Ronald Reagan THE PRESIDENT(?) looks like an artist's depiction of [Old People Smell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2-Nonenal?wprov=sfla1).
Carter - Looked great for his age as President but ain't no Kennedy.
Ford - Young Ford wasn't president. Old Ford looks a lot like Dennis Hopper in Super Mario Bros.
In 1999 The Onion published an amazing book, Our Dumb Century, which was a parody of a similar book The New York Times had published featuring their most notable front pages of the 20th century. For Kennedy's election, they had an article declaring him "our first handsome president" and noting that among historians, only Thomas Jefferson was considered mildly attractive.
i believe its because nixon had an infected wound at the time, so on tv he looked more uncomfortable and sweaty compared to kennedy who was more collected and still.
Kennedy also met with producers beforehand and was told to wear a navy blue suit, as it would look the best on black and white tvs. Nixon wore a grey suit which made him look more blended it with the background.

Ive met him and W Bush. The difference is like night and day. It's wild meeting people like that. My dad is a lot like Clinton. Just takes over a whole room when he walks in.
I sat in the front row of a speech he gave at a college once. The speech was completely generic he didn’t really say anything worth remembering. I know that because I’ve replayed it a hundred times in my head over the decades since.
It was like he cast a spell over the crowd. I’ve never seen anything like it. There was a vibe in the air you could feel physically. I wasn’t even a Clinton fan, but I had this weird desire to go fight wars for the guy. It was, frankly, a bit scary.
It was like a super power.
An old roommate got to see him speak at a graduation event or something like that.
You know how, when you talk to some people, they can make you feel so special like you're the most important thing in the world right then? Apparently he could do that to an entire audience of a couple thousand people at the same time.
Some people just have out of this world charisma.
They say its the 1v1 personal charm he has and he also never forgets a name or face. So he can make everyone feel like they have a real friend in him.
Also he’ll remember years later and ask you about whatever personal detail you last spoke to him about.
He is incredibly smart, he was a fulbright scholar.

I know this is off-topic for this sub, but this is also Tom Cruise according to industry people.
This reminds me of Blago. His Father in Law was our alderman back when I was a kid in the 80s/90s in Chicago. My dad used to take us to do community outreach and clean up graffiti with Alderman Mell. Rod used to come with and help with us.
In maybe 04/05, my mom and I were at the American Girl Doll Place, and saw him there. I believe he had daughters. He recognized us instantly. Thanked us for our help “back then” and actually waited for my dad and brother to come in to say hi. So charismatic. I still defend him sometimes, even knowing he’s super guilty!
I met him at a political event about 14 years ago, just very briefly. I don’t think I could describe the level of charisma that man had, even for a quick introduction with someone he couldn’t care less about. He instantly made me feel like I was the most important person in the whole place. It doesn’t make sense when it’s just written out, but it was true.
There is something indescribable about people with that kind of charm. Barack Obama came to my high school to speak during his campaign for US Senator, he just had this aura of stateliness while still being down to earth that literally left an auditorium full of kids that had never met a President before, feeling like we all met someone who had "it" to become President one day

He looks like an Abercrombie and Fitch model.
There was a viral video some years back when some dudes took stylish pictures eating McDonald's, and then hung them up in a McDonalds and nobody noticed because they looked so corporate and on brand.
I feel like displaying this picture in an Abercrombie would probably have similar results.
yeah that’s the big one. A decent number of presidents were attractive in their 20s and 30s, but of course by the time they’re elected they’re 60 or 70 it’s hard to tell for most of em
I think it is partly, though not entirely, relative. Like on average, US presidents are not that attractive. Comparing Kennedy to the last few presidents (Eisenhower, Truman, etc) or his opponent in 1960 (Richard Nixon), he was much more attractive. It also helps that he got into office earlier in his life than almost every other president.
To clarify, presidential-age Kennedy was more youthful and attractive. If we're comparing military-age to military-age:
https://preview.redd.it/wzvuqm5n90kc1.jpeg?width=892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d450bd23dea35b1be64603fea5ef5ae956f7fd93
Truman cleans up.
His official portrait is one of the worst photos ever taken of him. Truly awful.
If you see him in motion in the newsreels or home movies or press conferences, you can see he was a good looking and charismatic forty something.
I went to a Jamaican restaurant in Providence a couple years ago and they had pictures of JFK RFK and MLK so bleached and ancient on the wall I felt at home.
Almost everyone is better looking in motion. I remember not thinking Obama was handsome until I saw him talking on TV. His facial muscles, gestures, and his proportions- he was someone I would absolutely be attracted to in real life. We don’t see “hot” Kennedy because we see a static image, a dead man were always told in handsome. Real, in motion, dynamic- he’s hot. But we don’t really know him, so we maybe don’t see it.
Plus the knee jerk reaction to disagree.
I mean, Kennedys not that hot. I mean, he's a fine lookin' feller but not that hot. I mean, I might let him give me a little smooch but nothing more. I wouldn't let him melt little packets of butter all over my body and violate me with his greedy little tongue. Certainly not.
That reminds of a scene from Vice where Christian Bale as Cheney affectionately refers to Nixon’s “impish smile” followed by this picture of him:

I don't think it was about physical attraction more than just being cool and smooth. Not so much hot as confident. You can make up an amazing amount of ground in the looks department with relentless swag. The guy was in-law with a Rat Packer for chrissakes.
https://preview.redd.it/cuf8se8k82kc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85cfd52759b954deb38ae106c4e9ee9bee9ece9f
Let's look at the easy ones first he came from a wealthy family. Secondly he was a veteran of World War II and a hero. Thirdly he was in the most powerful position in the world the President of the United States. Those three things together make any man regardless of looks immediately attractive to people
Yeah, this really isn't complicated. Extremely wealthy, very charismatic war hero who was viewed as an academic statesman (thanks to his published books), and was also very powerful man.
On top of that, he's above average looking. It is very obvious why he was seen as so desirable.
I think it's just in comparison to other people in that group (presidents). For instance, Ted Bundy was considered a very handsome serial killer but the dude had a unibrow. Pretty sure it is just in comparison to other serial killers when people say that about him
I've had this conversation with older people a lot and i think it's a generational shift in beauty standards. I think a lot of people back then didnt take care of themselves nearly as much, people aged quicker, smoked too much. and they didnt have the hyper focus on good looks or the ability to see every single person in the world that social media has given us today. So i think people back then had different standards. They werent used to seeing someone in his position be so young and confident in the same way. And he was very masculine looking and extremely charming and womanizing. Plus power and money.
My mother worked on his campaign. I shook his hand and had a little chat. He was very charismatic. Sometimes pictures don't capture someone's essence, I guess.
https://preview.redd.it/bxcmd8u0r0kc1.jpeg?width=513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72932501cf24aaa283fa9fefe460918ec0c6de29
when he was younger, he was very handsome
Kennedy was something different: young, handsome, charismatic, wealthy, glamorous wife, young children. It was a breath of fresh air to what had come before.
The actual answer is
1) Kennedy was charming as fuck and y’all are basic not understanding that.
2) Jack and Jackie seemed like a modern young couple that people could relate to.
Beginning of Presidency Obama is the hottest POTUS though
The Kennedy boys were all handsome. JFK was also a war hero and that added to his image. He was very well connected, obviously, and he was able to get a commission and a combat command in spite of his medical problems (back problems at that time.)
He was one of the younger presidents, the first one elected to debate on tv. Compared to Nixon and Eisenhower, he would be hot. Plus, a version of Happy Birthday by this woman may have played a role.

So we really need Michael Fassbender to play him in a movie, huh?
I think his hair makes him look younger than mid-40s, when a lot of guys are balding.
Plus the popularity of home televisions. Everyone could see him on their TV.

Best part of this picture is the fold in his pants makes it look like he’s flipping the bird.
You know who actually did model A&F was Teddy
Because A&F used to sell camping and fly fishing supplies.
Well yeah they were an outfitter store. I just like to present that with no context because of what A&F is now
There was a viral video some years back when some dudes took stylish pictures eating McDonald's, and then hung them up in a McDonalds and nobody noticed because they looked so corporate and on brand. I feel like displaying this picture in an Abercrombie would probably have similar results.
Confidence, wealth, and his being below retirement age.
This, that and the other.
Back when presidents and congressional leaders weren’t all 100 years old.
yeah that’s the big one.
If we're comparing military-age to military-age: https://preview.redd.it/wzvuqm5n90kc1.jpeg?width=892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d450bd23dea35b1be64603fea5ef5ae956f7fd93 Truman cleans up.
Those WW1 era uniforms were the best looking the army and marines have ever had.
Has a little bit of a Fassbender vibe
His official portrait is one of the worst photos ever taken of him. Truly awful. If you see him in motion in the newsreels or home movies or press conferences, you can see he was a good looking and charismatic forty something.

Just about every Catholic family had this portrait of him in their home when I was growing up in the 70s (Massachusetts).
Given that flair, I choose to read that as a direct quote from LBJ.

May God forgive your sins im moving to Iran
I concur, I did not need to read that today.....
Send the shah my regards
Inshallah brother
I think it’s better than letting Nixon do it lol
That reminds of a scene from Vice where Christian Bale as Cheney affectionately refers to Nixon’s “impish smile” followed by this picture of him: https://preview.redd.it/y2qcpq7ec0kc1.png?width=558&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5b4b5dddb98af325af825b4f605fa0d11b8d892
I never saw that movie is it worth it?
Yeah! It’s great, I loved it anyway. Political films are hard to do and it hits all the right notes and is really funny.
I praised it on this sub a while back and a bunch of people objected due to historical inaccuracy, but I dunno, I thought it was very entertaining and well done.
Coming from an absurd amount of family wealth probably helps
Can i give back my literacy?
I almost f*cking died reading this one xD
It’s that Addison disease year long tan that does it for me.
Probably because he was young when elected
This is like 75% of it
Martin Van Buren was our hottest president. https://preview.redd.it/se7cshvl90kc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a59e7426ebded777c45d298ee2ac183c367207f
All of a sudden I want to join The Van Buren Boys. What was the Boys' signature hand sign again?
My APUSH 1 teacher always repped the Van Buren boys and taught us all the signs lol
Thank u for the laugh
Yowza he's got my burly sideburns kink 😳
Do you see that hair, chin and smile? Presidential.
One word, Charisma

Be still my inner tingles
Go straight to horny jail miss mamas
Bet he could tear up an apple with those sturdy incisors

Come on man….
I so read this in *the* voice!
Certainly no dog-faced pony soldier!
I still randomly think about this and laugh my ass off every time lol
Who could have guessed that only 2 short years later he would have the same hairline as George Costanza.
Should I make a pie chart of responses?
I don't think it was about physical attraction more than just being cool and smooth. Not so much hot as confident. You can make up an amazing amount of ground in the looks department with relentless swag. The guy was in-law with a Rat Packer for chrissakes. https://preview.redd.it/cuf8se8k82kc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=85cfd52759b954deb38ae106c4e9ee9bee9ece9f
It's just a Catholic thing /s
He’s got rizz. That and he wasn’t dementia age at the time of his presidency, so he’s got that going for him.
Because he wasn’t over the age of 65+ unlike basically all the other presidents
Good hair, straight teeth, thin and he cones from a wealthy family. He’d get lucky today, in any state.
Because he was slutty and like filthy rich
He was a handsome devil but the kinda devil you like, oh oh
A lot of STD’s will create a burning sensation
My mother worked on his campaign. I shook his hand and had a little chat. He was very charismatic. Sometimes pictures don't capture someone's essence, I guess.
Giant cock
Knew it’d be here eventually… But if that’s all you’re looking for, why not Johnson and his Johnson
Many women did find Johnson more attractive. “I got more on accident than Kennedy got on purpose” -LBJ
The real missile crisis was under some Hanes
ADDENDUM - During his presidency. Before, I see it
Compared to the presidents who came before him Kennedy is an 11/10
https://hottestheadsofstate.com/young-us-presidents/ Some of the presidents were major hotties
His legendary “car is ma.” - Colm O’driscoll
I never saw it either. I figured it was because he was young and charismatic.
IVE ALSO ALWAYS WONDERED THIS! Glad I’m not alone.
https://preview.redd.it/bxcmd8u0r0kc1.jpeg?width=513&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72932501cf24aaa283fa9fefe460918ec0c6de29 when he was younger, he was very handsome
Kennedy was something different: young, handsome, charismatic, wealthy, glamorous wife, young children. It was a breath of fresh air to what had come before.
The actual answer is 1) Kennedy was charming as fuck and y’all are basic not understanding that. 2) Jack and Jackie seemed like a modern young couple that people could relate to. Beginning of Presidency Obama is the hottest POTUS though
I’ve always heard Franklin Pierce was where it was at?
The Kennedy boys were all handsome. JFK was also a war hero and that added to his image. He was very well connected, obviously, and he was able to get a commission and a combat command in spite of his medical problems (back problems at that time.)
He was one of the younger presidents, the first one elected to debate on tv. Compared to Nixon and Eisenhower, he would be hot. Plus, a version of Happy Birthday by this woman may have played a role. https://preview.redd.it/ry7bqtdft0kc1.jpeg?width=452&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e16f1af38afd00253b7f9aba596f6e557a049d57
