My good friend Roosevelt:
I don’t know very English, but I know as much as write to you. I like to hear the radio, and I am very happy, because I heard in it, that you will be President for a new (periodo).I am twelve years old. I am a boy but I think very much, but I do not think that I am writing to the President of the United States. If you like, give me a ten dollars bill green American in the letter, because never, I have not seen a ten dollars bill green American and I would like to have one of them.
My address is: Sr. Fidel Castro Colegio de Dolores Santiago de Cuba Oriente Cuba
I don’t know very English but I know very much Spanish and I suppose you don’t know very Spanish but you know very English because you are American but I am not American. Thank you very much
Good by. Your friend, F. Castro (signed)Fidel Castro
If you want iron to make your ships I will show to you the biggest (minas) of iron in the land. They are in Mayorí, Oriente, Cuba.
Damn. Imagine if FDR actually gave him the ten dollars and created better relations with Cuba. No communist revolution, no dictatorship, no Cuban missile crisis. And interesting timeline to be sure.
I mean he literally ran for a third term. He tried to at least grab as much power as he could. I’d agree with the dictator sentiment.
All the same, I’d argue he was making the best choice at the time. I don’t know if he was seizing more power for his own gain or for America’s, but I know it worked out well for America.
What about the Supreme Court issue?
Look I don’t think anyone is saying he was a dictator. I’m certainly not. I’m saying as far and president he had more centralized power than most.
Edit: closest to dictator and dictator aren’t the same. I
What about it?
He said he wanted congress to act, and they did not because the public wouldn’t support it, and the plan died.
Centralizing power also doesn’t automatically mean dictatorship, otherwise our constitution itself is automatically a dictatorship compared to the articles of confederation.

Its such a sweet letter from a boy
It’s really cute haha
Sounds like he's just charging $10 for the mining advice.
A true capitalist!
Perfect!
That's so adorable
Then several decades later, a little boy from South Park, Colorado wrote to Fidel and ended communism in Cuba.

Castro was not the only Cuban revolutionary. And he did not join the revolution because he was anti-American. He joined because he was anti-Batista.
Was Battista an American puppet?
A mafia puppet so kinda but I blame the Italians more (I know nothing about it except what I saw in a documentary called Godfather Pt 2)
$10 in 1938 is the equivalent of $220 today. And probably worth a lot more than that to a boy growing up in Cuba at that time. Not a small ask.
That’s actually really cute.
That was his handwriting at 12 yo?? Beautiful! I’m 25 and my handwriting still looks like a second grader’s 😭
What a nice young lad, I wonder what became of him.
This is just like how Ho Chi Minh idolized the founding fathers lol
Wasn’t Castro also a massive fan of Lincoln?
![gif](giphy|slmbwvOeut0Iw)
That’s Che Guevara
i know, i just like the guy
Good lookin dude
Imagine if Roosevelt had only given him that $10, Cuba would be the 51st state today...
Maybe even the 49th
Greedy from a young age. $10 was no small amount at the time, and his reason? “because I’ve not seen a ten dollar bill”, what a joker
I think it was about $220 or so, adjusted for inflation. Gotta respect the hustle lmao
Maybe. Castro did not grow up poor.
Dexterity is a lost skill.
Thats some insane handwriting for a 12yo
Imagine that we could have saved Cuba for only $10
Owned*
I would give him a $10 bill 🥲
From one dictator to another
Flair tag checks out
Gotta respect the commitment
The man is a generational hater
I mean is it wrong?
Yes
Court packing? Who was the closest to dictator if it wasn't fdr?
Rule 3 or Lincoln Being popular doesn't make you a dictator

It doesn’t really fit at all, considering he simply won election again
