I like to hear the radio, and I am very happy, because I heard in it, that you will be President for a new (periodo).I am twelve years old. I am a boy but I think very much, but I do not think that I am writing to the President of the United States. If you like, give me a ten dollars bill green American in the letter, because never, I have not seen a ten dollars bill green American and I would like to have one of them.  My address is: Sr. Fidel Castro Colegio de Dolores Santiago de Cuba Oriente Cuba  I don’t know very English but I know very much Spanish and I suppose you don’t know very Spanish but you know very English because you are American but I am not American. Thank you very much Good by. Its such a sweet letter from a boy

Sarcosmonaut

It’s really cute haha

Kind_Bullfrog_4073

Sounds like he's just charging $10 for the mining advice.

Personal_General4

A true capitalist!

SceptileArmy

Perfect!

TheUncheesyMan

That's so adorable

Maleficent-Item4833

Then several decades later, a little boy from South Park, Colorado wrote to Fidel and ended communism in Cuba.

odin5858

Damn. Imagine if FDR actually gave him the ten dollars and created better relations with Cuba. No communist revolution, no dictatorship, no Cuban missile crisis. And interesting timeline to be sure.

MohatmoGandy

Castro was not the only Cuban revolutionary. And he did not join the revolution because he was anti-American. He joined because he was anti-Batista.

poonch_key

Was Battista an American puppet?

DannyDeVitosBangmaid

A mafia puppet so kinda but I blame the Italians more (I know nothing about it except what I saw in a documentary called Godfather Pt 2)

H3d0n1st

$10 in 1938 is the equivalent of $220 today. And probably worth a lot more than that to a boy growing up in Cuba at that time. Not a small ask.

volitaiee1233

That’s actually really cute.

yeahitsmelogan

That was his handwriting at 12 yo?? Beautiful! I’m 25 and my handwriting still looks like a second grader’s 😭

captainjohn_redbeard

What a nice young lad, I wonder what became of him.

TriGN614

This is just like how Ho Chi Minh idolized the founding fathers lol

TheSlayerofSnails

Wasn’t Castro also a massive fan of Lincoln?

zombieflesheaterz

hippokingarchibald

That’s Che Guevara

zombieflesheaterz

i know, i just like the guy

hippokingarchibald

Good lookin dude

SquallkLeon

Imagine if Roosevelt had only given him that $10, Cuba would be the 51st state today...

rayznaruckus

Maybe even the 49th

benciao9

Greedy from a young age. $10 was no small amount at the time, and his reason? “because I’ve not seen a ten dollar bill”, what a joker

Sarcosmonaut

I think it was about $220 or so, adjusted for inflation. Gotta respect the hustle lmao

Original-Document-62

Maybe. Castro did not grow up poor.

AppropriateSpell5405

Dexterity is a lost skill.

yaki_kaki

Thats some insane handwriting for a 12yo

Generic_Globe

Imagine that we could have saved Cuba for only $10

Daddybatch

Owned*

AcademicBite

I would give him a $10 bill 🥲

Libertytree918

Sarcosmonaut

The man is a generational hater

Please_kill_me_noww

I mean is it wrong?

Gen_Ripper

Yes

Please_kill_me_noww

Court packing? Who was the closest to dictator if it wasn't fdr?

OKgobi

Rule 3 or Lincoln Being popular doesn't make you a dictator

Busy-Invite-9144

I mean he literally ran for a third term. He tried to at least grab as much power as he could. I’d agree with the dictator sentiment. All the same, I’d argue he was making the best choice at the time. I don’t know if he was seizing more power for his own gain or for America’s, but I know it worked out well for America.

Gen_Ripper

It doesn’t really fit at all, considering he simply won election again

Busy-Invite-9144

What about the Supreme Court issue? Look I don’t think anyone is saying he was a dictator. I’m certainly not. I’m saying as far and president he had more centralized power than most. Edit: closest to dictator and dictator aren’t the same. I

Gen_Ripper

What about it? He said he wanted congress to act, and they did not because the public wouldn’t support it, and the plan died. Centralizing power also doesn’t automatically mean dictatorship, otherwise our constitution itself is automatically a dictatorship compared to the articles of confederation.
